North kicked 12-1 against Essendon 2-3 in the first quarter of R16 2001, Essendon subsequently won the game but it took the greatest ever comeback to get it done and these were no bottom dwellers, both had won a premiership in the two previous seasons

I'll open by saying I'm biased as an Essendon supporter, but seriously, 15.4.94 to 0.1.1 in the first quarter vs Gold Coast in Round 6 2011. If the criteria is based on scoring alone, regardless of the opposition, it's very difficult to top that.

This has nothing on Essendon's 4th quarters in the 1984 and 1985 grand finals against one of the best Hawthorn sides ever assembled. 9 goals 6 behinds in 1984 to win by 4 goals after trailing by 4 goals at 3 quarter time, and 11 goals 3 behinds in 1985 to turn a 5 goal 3 quarter time lead into a 13 goal belting.
Not against this sort of opposition; I suspect the best quarter ever was Carlton kicking 14.1 at Windy Hill against Essendon after trailing 5.1 to 1.4 at quarter time.

By your definition the best quarter would have to be South Melbourne's 17 goals against the Saints in 1919, in which they also kept the Saints scoreless. Matter of fact the Saints were only able to score in 1 quarter of that game.

Port kicking 8 goals to 1 in the third quarter against Brisbane in round 1 springs to mind. This video is clickbait and nothing more.

Other teams have played Hawthorn so there is an argument here to say, yes this was the best quarter. It would be interesting to see if it holds up as the season goes on though.
