The end of his 10 Hidden Gems from CGI Thomas video
Thomas and friends vhs 1992 Thomas breaks the rules I have one in my collection
I love how dead inside Tug sounds when listing the early CGI DVDs.
Trust me, we'd all feel the same way, the old version of CGI Thomas WAS a bit of a twat.
Plus the Hit era DVDS
Who wouldn't?
I like season 12 because I have fond memories of it and because I just really like how they blend models with CGI
@@RPGFlare64 I do too. The stories were lame, but the way they filmed it makes up for it.

As a thomas fan that loves it like God your correct
Physical media is so wonderful to have, especially in scenarios like these where Mattel is doing everything they can to make it inaccessible online. The collection looks fantastic at first glance, and I sure would love to have it.
0:52 đMattel not again đ© why
Mattel must be taking inspiration from HBO Max it seems.
Thanks for the shoutouts, Tug! I'm always glad to help out fellow Thomas media collectors.
Loving all the sealed tapes in this collection. That sealed Thomas and the Really Brave Engines with the sticker is a real gem and the Thomas Gets Bumped tape with the cassette is a nice rarity.
Some notes for media enthusiasts/collectors:
13:12 It's a stretch but Bertie kind of sort of caused Thomas' accident in Thomas and the Special Letter. Thomas was showing off to Oliver how he raced with Bertie...
13:28 I'd consider the Thomas and the Special Letter 2009 Lionsgate re-release pretty rare. Nice that you have one!
17:28 This cover redesign is from 2000, not 2001.
19:04 For some reason the 2006 Anchor Bay slimcase actually has the color-corrected Thomas face, so I think Lionsgate used the slimcase front cover design.
25:58 I like the clipart of the characters from this era. Totally nostalgia talking lol.
28:04 The sealed Thomas' Snowy Surprise tape you have is not from 2003 but from 2004 or later. Original 2003 VHS and DVD copies list the first episode as "Thomas' Snowy Surprise" on the back while copies from 2004 or later list it as "It's Only Snow".
30:00 Lion Cub Films was the Canadian wing of Lionsgate from 2009 to 2010, so what you've got here is a Canadian DVD. The Canadian DVDs from the 2009-2014 era interestingly have different disc designs. Typically, the US Lionsgate DVD re-releases would just reuse the Anchor Bay/HiT/Fox disc design (except for those Walmart exclusives and Hooray for Thomas for some reason).
32:34 Percy Saves the Day did get a standard Lionsgate re-release but Salty's Secret and Trust Thomas didn't. Salty's Secret was re-released in that Walmart line under the name Harvey to the Rescue and it was also released by Lion Cub and Maple Pictures in Canada and I have seen a US Lionsgate slimcase on the wiki but not a Lionsgate standard case. Trust Thomas' only Lionsgate re-releases seem to be the Double Feature with A Big Day for Thomas and some toy packs (which, I presume, just have the Anchor Bay DVD inside).
33:48 Tales from the Tracks was originally distributed by 20th Century Fox instead of HiT Entertainment themselves, Tales from the Tracks being the first Thomas VHS/DVD released by them.
34:56 This is purely speculation but I wonder if Anchor Bay wasn't allowed to release S8 episodes on DVD in 2006, hence no Halloween on Thomas' Halloween Adventures. I think S8 in the US was only on HiT/20th Century Fox/Lionsgate releases and not any Anchor Bay ones, so, perhaps, HiT didn't license S8 to Anchor Bay.
43:19 Fun fact: You can still rent/buy Railway Mischief from Amazon Prime Video in 1080p 16:9 widescreen (and basically all the other 4:3 CGI DVDs from that era).
44:31 No, you're right. Unless you count the Greek DVD ;P
46:23 Probably common in Canada but I would say "uncommon" in the States.
49:37 All of S6 was released like this but sadly not on DVD. Roku in the US, Amazon Prime in the UK and iTunes in Australia have the uncropped "full widescreen" versions of S6, Aus iTunes being the only one with the Gullane endboards. Sadly, any sped up 50fps shots are only shown in 25fps on streaming so it's not "proper" but it's the best we have.
50:12 The Bumper Party Collection! 2007 re-release is distributed by 2Entertain, not HiT Entertainment.
50:48 The Thomas' Trusty Friends UK DVD you've got here is not the 2006 2Entertain DVD but the HiT Entertainment DVD re-release from 2008.
57:20 The 2012 Complete Series 6 disc doesn't feature the newer steamcloud logo in the intro of each episode. I wish it did!
1:05:06 I'm Busy Hurry Hurry!! is from 2013, not 2012. Fun fact: Japanese VHS/DVD releases show their release dates on the back cover (I wish other countries did this). You can see the release date for I'm Busy Hurry Hurry!! is 13 âą 1 âą 30, thus January 30, 2013.
1:06:16 A Better View for Gordon was released on the Gordon and Henry the Large Engines DVD. I think the Thomas Classics Series DVDs were intended to release Classic episodes that weren't on those "Best of" DVDs.

Always love your takes on Thomas Home Media. I love the promo art/clipart too, totally not nostalgia lol. It gets annoying though seeing it in EVERYTHING THOMAS RELATED IN THAT TIME. I still love them. One thing though, if HiT didn't license S8 to Anchor Bay, why would they license S9-10? There is Thomas and The Treasure and Toy Workshop from Anchor Bay. I'm thinking of making a series on my channel where I talk about Thomas DVDs that got retitled for some odd reason, it'll be a three part series, would you be interested in joining me for it?

Man, this video brought so many memories for me. I'm from Mexico and as a kid in the mid 2000s trying to watch Thomas on TV was a pain in the ass since they always kept moving it from schedule in the most extreme ways possible: one day it could air right after I came back from school, but the next day it aired at 11 pm. However, my grandma worked in the US and when she came to visit, she would always bring me the recent DVD releases, so that's how I watched the show most of the time.
As a British guy with loads of Thomas DVD's, I'm happy to send you a bunch of my old stuff if you're ever open to it

Imagine if the complete seasons were released in America in the Anchor Bay style. I would LOVE to have something like Season One with Thomas and Gordon on the cover with a shot from Flying Kipper, Dirty Objects, ect.
I agree
We had the early years box set, which had all of season 1, but we didn't get any more because of bad sales numbers
I could see Shout Factory doing that.
To Photoshop!
I would like to see that. Here's two things I'd like to add:
- Here in Australia, we only ever got the early 2000's editions of the complete seasons on DVD. It's a little depressing when the picture quality I bought legit is worse than what we have on YT. For free.
- I wouldn't mind tracking down the remastered UK editions, but the covers rub me the wrong way. Using Season 7 Thomas (with Salty) for the Season 3 DVD? Couldn't you use something more period-appropriate?
I find it really interesting that the US was still doing re-releases of seasons 1, 2 and 3 compilations as late as 2009. By that point in Australia, episodes that late were only in stores in the full series collections.
Really interesting to take a memory lane down someone elseâs nostalgia for the same show - cool video Tug!
You Americans sure were lucky when it came to DVDs of the classic series. Us British People in The UK did get some great releases, such as our complications, e.g. Peep Peep Party, Seasonal Scrapes, The Very Best of Thomas and Friends, Bumper Party Collection etc. But you Americans had so many releases and releases of The Classic Series, and you all got many songs on DVD that the UK never seemed to get. We may have little treat size releases of the classic series now, but you Americans have truly been lucky when it came to having the amount of releases.
Is it just me, or does Japan seem to honor and respect the legacy of Wilbert Awdry more than Mattel Creations or even Britain for that matter has shown?
Not to say that British Thomas fans don't respect Awdry, I'm referring to Mattel solely and the British part of it that owns Thomas.
Mattel is an American company Not that I'm saying that American Thomas fans don't respect Awdry either
I think it has to do with Mattel being a corporation, whereas in Japan, they have a culture of respecting your elders, hence the respect for Awdry.
When did Japan get more creative by working with existing stuff then everyone else does?

Man itâs so nostalgic seeing some of these old VHS tapes and DVDs. Iâll never forget the feeling of waking up on a warm summer morning, my toughest decision being which story collection Iâd watch. So many specific tapes have a special place in my heart. I donât know why, but the 10 years in America DVD was my favorite. I think itâs because the cuts to Day Out with Thomas made the stories feel more real, and I could associate my memories of going with my family with the DVD. I also really love Thomas and the special letter growing up. And I remember trying to get my hands on any narrow gauge story I could. I rewatched sing-a-long stories so many times, not even for the songs but because I wanted to watch the episode Bulldog over and over. Also for some reason I had like 4 copies of cranky bugs on VHS growing up, I donât know why. Great video as always tug!
Oh man... my inner 4 year old is just going completely nuts, I remember getting those VHS and DVD's at my local blockbuster. Does anyone remember Blockbuster? I miss those times. BTW I'm going on 20 years old and I feel old after saying that.
Same here. Also 20 years old. This makes me feel old despite being so young.
For the Season 7, they should have put the episodes with the Mike and Junior music on the DVDs, and have the versions with the new music on the television broadcasts. That way, people would be given a choice as to what they prefer instead of restricting it to Hartshorneâs music. Chances are that not everyone is going to want to see Season 7 with Hartshorneâs music.
This is gonna be the best 1:08:43 of my life
There was a complete DVD of Season 1 released in the US which was titled "The Early Years". Strangely enough it was the only season released in its entirety on home media in the US aside from Season 12.
I would love it if Mattel released the entire series on Blu-Ray, seasons 1-24. And that means NO All Engines Go. And I would love it if they included bonus features like audio commentaries, featurettes, interviews, promotional material and an idea of mine called the Sodor Archives, which would contain a vast library of deleted scenes, concept art and sketches, demo tests and full turntables of the models, sets and props used in the series, with a viewing enhanced mode that allows you to view the archive as you watch the episodes. And this is all mainly inspired by the 2011 Blu-Ray release of Star Wars. And of course they could use it to release never before seen content, like the Down the Mine Pilot, now wouldn't that be amazing!
I never knew about those Japanese releases until now, but they definitely didn't fail to intrigue me. Awesome collection!
8:29, 14:51, 17:54-18:33 These were the episodes I grew up with. Plus funny I even thought the same myself with that VHS too.
I still have all of my VHS tapes I had as a kid. All the first 3 season tapes being Strand VCI tapes. Everything after "James Goes Buzz Buzz" is an Anchor Bay release.

Fun fact: The cover image from "It's Great To Be An Engine!" was also used for the cover of a Serbian DVD of Season 1. It was cropped to be in a circle with brown stripes and had the Steam Cloud logo translated to Serbian. It only had 15 episodes however. I remember watching it all the time.
This was such a nostalgia trip for me, especially everything from Thomas Gets Tricked to Calling All Engines (when I stopped buying them). It's crazy because I remember every single time I either first got or at least first saw each of those videos, going all the way back to 1992. Weird, the things that stick with you lol I remember getting Gallant Old Engine in a train store in a mall in '96 and getting it with a whole bunch of other Thomas merch. I remember getting Races, Rescues and Runaways while on vacation in California, because we went to a friend of my parents' after who let me watch it at their place. I specifically remember them talking over dinner while I watched it, but when Toby and the Flood was on, they went dead silent and watched it with me. Season 5, man.
The Japanese videos were an unexpected highlight. I love bumper releases with a theme. Might try to recreate those for my own personal enjoyment with the US/UK dubs with Sony Vegas.
Thanks for such a great video. Lots of fun, entertaining and oddly satisfying. I love your "collection" videos - especially your Tomy Playrail vid. This one has actually inspired me to fill in some gaps in my own DVD collection. Helluva job
I too was not that crazy with Sing Along & Stories and Trackside Tunes as a kid. I was more into watching the episodes as I wasn't that interested in the songs originally. Naturally as I got older, I warmed up to these songs and some even become a few of my favorites.
Same
I felt similar in my childhood, as I was never crazy about a straight forward music format for entertainment in my childhood, even though I still found some stuff like that watchable. I only saw Sing Along & Stories and Thomas' Trackside Tunes once for each in my childhood and was mostly only interested in the few episodes. As a kid, I was legitimately upset that Bulldog was only available on Sing Along & Stories in America, and while I didn't get confirmation about that until the internet made that information widely available. I really liked that episode and wished it was reused on a more traditional release. Same problem applies with Peter Sam And The Refreshment Lady. I was absolutely delighted when Gordon And The Gremlin was reused on Best Of Gordon when I saw it later in my childhood, as it meant it wasn't exclusive to Thomas' Trackside Tunes. In general, I've come to appreciate the songs much more as I've gotten older, so I look at both releases more positively now, though they could have been improved, and it's still bad that those two season 4 episodes never got properly released here.
When I was little, I've always dreamed of having a huge collection of Thomas DVDs. Thomas' advertising (back in the day anyway) was truly something else.
Only downside to buying them used is if you're not careful, you get discs that are scratched to oblivion. Seriously, kids can be ruthless with those things, and I know from experience.
One of the most interesting DVDs I got ahold of is a Canadian version of the Magic Railroad lying around at my local Burlington in Cali 8 years ago or so, released by Alliance.
"Welcome to the Thomas & Friends DVD Experience" is engraved onto my skull!
Streaming will never recapture the magic of DVDs!
This is one really impressive home media collection! After watching this video, I feel inspired and motivated to collect more VHS tapes and DVDs. I love how you arrange them based on order of eras.
Thomas Comes To Breakfast was the first Thomas VHS I saw as a very young infant and was one that I watched repeatedly growing up into a toddler. And I too thought that Sir Topham Hatt was referring to Diesel in the next episode. I feel so lucky that this was my first Thomas VHS because all 8 episodes together in that order feels like its own little movie. The stories all feel connected somehow and the drama with Thomas and Percyâs friendship in Double Trouble feels like a friendship in peril plot line in a Disney movie like The Fox and the Hound during the later act of the film. Feels like a perfect Thomas video to me, and I have fond memories of getting the DVD in 2006 to watch this video on the go for road trips.
Best Collection Video In Thomas History! there's a bunch of releases we haven't heard about! from A To Z! From The US To Japan! From Hello To Konichiwa! This is something we can definitely look back on.

30:17 I always remember the Steamies vs Diesels DVD for one thing. The game where you have to guess whether the engine is Steam or Diesel and they weirdly labeled Spencer as a Diesel. Iâm guessing because of his square face.
35:26 this is the first and one of two T&F dvds iâve ever owned, it includes HiT episodes like âRespect for Gordonâ. The other dvd I own is 42:50.
Dang, this brings back memories. Our public library had a couple of the VHS tapes (never saw them as our VHS player broke somewhere around 2006), and they had a lot of the DVDs, including Sing-Along and Stories. That one I really liked a whole lot.
49:43 I'm 99% sure this was the first DVD that i had as a kid in Australia. Cranky Bugs had a lot of replay value to me.
13:59 man my soul left my body
Races, Rescues and Runaways plus On Site With Thomas was my JAM when I was a kid! Still have a few DVDS myself.
One thing I notice about the releases of the Thomas cartoons is that while Thomas, Percy, Gordon and James got âThe Best ofâ releases, it always questioned me as to why Edward and Henry didnât get âThe Best ofâ releases as of yet. Not that Iâm complaining or anything.

Love the presentation of this collection in more ways than one. First, the shelves look excellent, great arrangement there, and I love how you showcased every release, with the rotating platform... Yeah, I remember when I went to Canada in 2008, and I discovered the existence of those American DVDs. A couple of trips to Walmart, and I picked up as many as I could. I think they were all $3-5 per release, so that was pretty nice. I was in the country for only a week, but they got a LOT of use during those 7 days!

That friends help out dvd is part of a line of lions gate reprints I like to call, âthe re named re releasesâ. Often associated with the home video bonus packs, Make someone happy became really useful engines, Thomas and his friends help out became friends help out, Thomas and his friends get along became the runaway engine, Thomas comes to breakfast became pop goes the diesel, and saltyâs secret became Harvey to the rescue. James and the red balloon, Percyâs chocolate crunch, and best of Gordon were also available in this cover style, but werenât renamed
I remember buying many of those VHS tapes new back in the 90s and early 00s. So many great releases! I still find it amazing that us fans who grew up back then saw the episodes wildly out of order (they were putting Season 3 episodes out before all of the Season 1 ones were even released.) How the mighty Thomas empire has fallen...
Back when I was younger, I loved watching movies and tv so much. We had big collections of dvds and vhs tapes (split mainly into Disney and Other). I had a couple of the "Best Of" TTTE dvds collected.
Also you hit the nail on the head about Thomas merch. I liked the show as a kid, but only really became part of the fandom in 2021. Apart from Disney, I'm usually in fandoms that don't have much merchandise if any at all for their properties. So its disappointing to see a lack of Thomas when I remembered it being everywhere as a kid.
What if Thomas and friends was own by Disney instead of Mattel that could be a good thing
@@vanessasandoval96 You know the funny thing, I've had something of a what if scenario in my head recently. I realized that subject matter aside, the RWS/TTTE has a few commonalites with the Winnie the Pooh series.
Both started out as british children books written by a father of a boy named Christopher. Later they would both gain international fame due to screen adaptations of the property and have long successful franchises.
Walt Disney had a deep love of trains. Yet considering how Awdry was about how accurate railways needed to be portrayed, I'm doubtful he would have allowed an adaptation by Disney.
I'm not sure what direction Disney would have gone with the property and how fans of the original series would react. (Pooh had its critics when it came out. But unlike Thomas, Pooh is more of a simple, childhood fantasy rather than an attempt of portraying a realistic, industrial setting.)
But considering that the majority of Winnie the Pooh's content is very enjoyable. I imagine that at the very least, Disney would keep the charm of Awdry's characters intact.
Disney would probably ruin it like Mattel have
I had that thought, but with Hasbro.
Hear me out: Yes, Hasbro is a toy company like Mattel, but they treat their properties with respect. And as you can tell, I love Power Rangers, which Hasbro acquired in 2018. Hasbro has done wonders with bringing the series back to its roots and making good seasons again.
I don't know if they could do it with Thomas, mind you, but it could work.
@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822 You've got a good point, Hasbro has done a pretty good job adapting their IPs. I wonder if Mattel should do something similar to the Barbie movie they have coming out soon. It would kinda be fun to have a self aware Thomas movie that puts effort into including details that the fans would know. Overall, it would be nice if Mattel came out with a really good Thomas movie or something.
Getting home from a library with a Thomas dvd tape was always the best day of the week
This was a fun upload to watch!
It actually made me dig out my childhood Thomas DVD Collection which has a mix of episodes from series 3 up to series 9.
They're all scratched up because I clearly loved watching these as a kid.
Edit: Is it me, or am I the only one who grew up in the mid to late 2000's with those weird slim case variants of the Anchor Bay DVDs?

â@@vanessasandoval96You have a crush on The Unlucky Tug don't you? You keep making multiple comments on his videos
Feels good to be part of the last generation of kids to ever grow up with video stores
Now that I'm rewatching this, I realized I have the VHS Chocolate Crunch and two copies of Best of Percy on VHS? Guess that's pretty neat
Nice to see a fellow supporter of physical media! Great collection, thanks for showing it off with such style.
Another great video packed with nostalgia for me, I own a lot of the original VHS tapes and even the Shining Time Station tapes. Great video tug!
I am happy to see this was a basic upload and not a premier upload as I'm on the east coast and the time difference doesn't allow for me with my schedule to see the video on upload day.
Made my Friday watching this buddy!
The RWS DVDs are so clever, Iâm so jealous we didnât get these in the states.
I clearly remember that I watched Thomas and Friends on DvDs and on a big flat screen TV, my family was annoyed that I was using the TV more than they are, just watch some trains with faces in English, but they donât bother to stop me
34:57 this is interesting so why is Emily with Thomas if she isnât in any episodes
Awesome collection Tug! I also really like that Bertie cover from âThomas and the Special Letterâ đđ something about it is hilarious. I like how you explain some of your nostalgia you had with a few of these
The unlucky tug: what were they smoking when they designed this!
Peter griffin: crack!
Funny you mention the Thomas Comes to Breakfast misconception, because my Mom actually got the Daisy VHS from a thrift store while I was little so I knew all about her. I'm actually trying to build up my US DVD collection too, I'm midway through the S9 releases as we speak! Awesome collection!
You just sent me soaring into nostalgia. I had most of the first edition "as seen on Shining Time Station" VHS tapes when I was little. Since a lot of them were mishmashed episodes from different seasons, I never really knew which one was from which, especially since Carlin re-narrated all of Seasons 1 and 2 and episodes from both narrators could appear. Living in Japan as an Army brat, my parents would buy the VHS tapes while in the US so that I could have something to watch, however I started learning Japanese myself by watching the Japanese dubs as well. At one point, I even started referring to Thomas as "Kikansha Thomas"
Very impressive collection! Great video!
Amazing collection EEEEEEEEEEEE! I love how you did the complete S1-S7! Also, Japanese made so many really cool dvds I had no idea existed
Trust Thomas was the start of my journey to Thomas, and watching this makes me feel like a kid again in the 90s and 2000s.
Bro, you and me both! That DVD was also my introduction to Thomas!
the thing sesame street/muppets in general and thomas and freinds have in common is that there both live action props but called cartoons for no reason
Trust Thomas was my introduction to the franchise as well, specifically one of the vhs releases from the 90s.

My childhood called
It's coming back
I had that one, a later release of truck loads of fun, the fogman and one or two others growing up. One I know that I still have (and probably doesn't work anymore as I played the episodes over and over and OVER was the complete series 5 DVD. Memories. I remember my parents had this really old TV which they didn't use so I'd watch my thomas dvds on it.
Lion cub was a subdivision of lions gate that released Thomas dvds in Canada in 2009-10
The Comple Series treatment with Remastered and 90s versions on one side was so clever. â€â€đđ
Awesome collection. I had lots of the anchor bay ones, lots of good memories. also... I love clip art for some reason. It's so nostalgic, and I just love it.
30:48 I have the Thomas and the jet engine dvd when I got the Sodor celebration dvd
Those classic US VHS tapes brought back so many memories! I remember being so thrilled every time I came across those in the stores. They all look like they're in great shape, too! Funny how I had the same perception of Ringo as you did, and rarely if ever watched those first two tapes. Lots of great memories with these, especially Thomas Meets The Queen since Special Funnel was my favorite episode. Thanks for another great video, your content is always of the highest quality!
Such an awesome collection! Always love seeing other peopleâs collections of DVDs, especially from Thomas. As an avid collector myself, I have a lot of the DVDs, almost all of the US and complete series DVDs but want more UK DVDs, US/UK VHSâs (I only have like 4) and potentially Japanese ones. Definitely inspiring me to get more! Canât wait for your next video Tug!
You're missing a really important item... My home recorded BetaMax from 1984! Rushing home with my mom to hurriedly record the latest episode. I was already a fan from the books, so when I heard there was going to be a TV series I was obsessed from the very beginning!
Clicked on this faster then Hit making Season 6 and 7 DVDS
Could you imagine if Thomas characters are are giants in the background of the episode
â@@vanessasandoval96You put are twice
This is quite the collection. Tug, I am relieved I was able to make it through the whole video. Collection videos like this are long to make and upload.
Well, I graduated high school tonight. Thanks for the gift of this video. You were one of main reason to keep going this school year Tug. Thank you.
Well this came straight outta nowhere
Also I coincidentally have that same Blu Ray player at the beginning
35:35 I wish I have this dvd if it wasnât sold out already
