    Drove through here on my way to Lubbock from Houston nearly 2 years ago, then discovered that it was literally the halfway point.

    The Commanches are fierce warriors. If left alone, they trouble no one.

      @alanstrong55 Tell that to Ann Whitney. In 1867, the small log cabin school was invaded by Comanche Indians and Miss Whitney was massacred while protecting her students. Near Hamilton Texas.

    Welcome to Comanche but watch your scalps! Jon doesn't have to worry - any remaining Comanches in that area will run like hell from evil spirits after seeing him! They captured and tortured their captives and in return got a town named after them - go figure! ... Must not be in tornado alley - too many very old and beautiful trees! 🌳Alternate music track for this video would be, "Reservation Of Education" by XIT (a genuine American Indian rock band from the 70's!) ...Well, It's very cold and windy here too - and I'm coming down with something. ...Next stop Grapevine? Did that guy's pontoon boat float? How's your storage room coming along?

      I have not worked on the storage. The guys boat did float, but he's having truck problems now. I'm trying to get him to take it camping on the lake for a video. We appreciate you watching Bill.

    This log cabin style known as a “dogtrot” had the breezeway between two buildings, the thought was the buildings would stay cooler on the hot humid southeast summer days. This basic structure can still be found in contemporary buildings.

    Is that type of town just a Texas thing? Or is it a small town staple throughout the country? The whole square built around a courthouse.

    • @HaveKayaksWillTravel
      @HaveKayaksWillTravel  Před 12 dny +1

      @paulhopkins1905 It is pretty common in Texas to have the square built around the courthouse. I don't think it's just a Texas thing. I have seen it in other states, I just don't know how common it is out of Texas.

    Why would you focus on that tree? That's the hanging tree that they will not cut down. Comanche is a sundown town. 😡

    • @HaveKayaksWillTravel
      @HaveKayaksWillTravel  Před 8 měsíci +1

      They didn't have a historic marker for that, only about the young boy who hid from indians behind the tree. We don't know the history of all these towns. We only explore and learn what we can while visiting. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @HaveKayaksWillTravel Of course, they're not going too. I'm pretty sure they didn't want a lot of people or anybody else knowing about it. But I'm from that area.

      @@user-ko2pf6xq2z I'm following nearby town as well and I had a lot of family there and Europe there. So either you're trying not see it or you were trying to ignore it. But the tree in the courtyard is definitely an old hanging tree
