    I've worked in orthopedic physical therapy (physio) for almost 20 years and the last year have helped with a spinal cord injury research project.
    I know someone with bad calf spasticity as a major limiting factor for their gait and function. I suggested they ask their docs about this treatment idea and they will likely be getting first round of botox soon.
    fingers crossed. I hope it works well in their case. I saw it helps your case to an extent, just curious if you find it helpful enough to do consistently and if so how often?
    love the video, I'll be watching more and likely suggesting ya to some of my spinal cord injury patients!

      I hope it helps them, I know people who it makes a huge difference.
      For me, I actually noticed more difference doing a combination of stretching, ifes and standing so I don’t actually do botox regularly in legs for spasms any more. But that’s just me, other swear by it and that I know of get it every 6-12 months (different for everybody).
      But I recently tried getting some in my calf muscles because I want to get my foot flat so I can stand better. The spasms have cause a bit of foot tightness or contracture so I can’t get any Dorsiflexion or even flat.
      Something that has also really helped is I get cupping and acupunture on my calf’s.
      Thank you so much for watching and being a supporter of my channel!

      @@EmQuattrocchi @Em Quattrocchi Cheers, Em. :o) Yes, my grandmother had botox for a while for blepharospasm, which is basically dystonia in the eye muscles. She found that it was good at first, but subsequent treatments were less effective I think. Its something to try, essentially - Ive tried orthotics and a bunch of medications that didnt help, and the last resort is an operation to rearrange the tendons, bones and muscles in my feet, which would be fairly major so theyre hesitant, which I can understand. I hope today is a good one for you, hon. :o) x

    • @EmQuattrocchi
      @EmQuattrocchi  Před 2 lety

      It’s hard for me to say, the best person to ask would be your doctor or physio.
      The thing you have to remember too is that things work differently for everyone, so botox might work for some but then something else works for someone else.
      So you have to try a few different things till you find what’s work for you.
      Have you tried stretching your calf? Cause stretching might be something you can try.

      @@EmQuattrocchi hi Em, thanks for the reply. I am currently waiting to see the neurology department via the NHS. I paid £250 to see a private neurologist, and he said that it’s due to anxiety, which I do suffer from. I haven’t really tried stretching. I’ve used a massage gun. But I’ve been thinking about getting my caves professionally massaged. Botox would be a last resort for me. But in your personal experience, does Botox stop your calves from contracting?

    • @EmQuattrocchi
      @EmQuattrocchi  Před 2 lety

      For me personally botox didn’t make a great difference but I have met other people that it made a big difference.
      Stretching, weight bearing (e.g standing frame) and electric stimulation (nmes or fes) are things that have helped me the most.
      Massage would be a good idea to try and you could even ask if they can teach you how to massage your calf yourself so you can do at home as well and get more benefit because I find that I have to be consistent with doing things to keep my legs calm 😆

      @@EmQuattrocchi as far as you are aware is calf Botox safe/popular?

    • @EmQuattrocchi
      @EmQuattrocchi  Před 2 lety

      As far as I’m aware it’s safe. I have been told you have to have at least 3 months between treatments and don’t go over 300 units of Botox. But you might be told something else.
      I recommend writing a little list of questions for your medical professional to answer cause they will know all the answers for certain and what amount of Botox you would be getting etc.
      I have known a few people to get it and had good results.

      I didn’t have any but with anything there’s always a small risk so probably best to talk to your doctor about that.
      In saying that, I don’t have botox any more because my spasms are better and I’m working on connecting to my lower body. So I guess with botox, if recovery is your goal then effecting that is something.
