Sen Warnock is the type of Southern politician in the vein of Jimmy Carter we we need more of: a man of faith and religion but the type who doesn't force it on anyone and recognizes that legislation needs to benefit everyone, not just the fundies.

I was a prosecutor in the Bronx for years and I remember seeing how so many of the people our office prosecuted (and believe it or not, often tried to help) were in that situation because their lives were just harder than they should have been. I became convinced that if we just took care of people no matter what - ensured that their basic needs were met - then ofc the economic motivation for crime would become a nonissue, and so too would the crimes of passion because I feel like most people who were already having a hard time would just snap and do something that hurt someone else, making their lives even harder. I absolutely believe that it benefits society to lift everybody up, because happy, fulfilled people, who society is working for, are not going to violate the social compact or hurt other people. In that scenario, the only people we'd have left to worry about would be the Trumps of the world who want for nothing and want more. We could focus our entire criminal justice system on white collar criminals.
