The cast are charming, the acting is electrifying, the direction is well crafted & is overall A faithful & terrific adaptation of the electrifying book of the same name. (88%) (4.5/5 stars) (positive)
@IceCreamSuit Judging from his review of Pirates of the Caribbean 3, which featured an elaborate discussion of the wooden acting of Keira Knightley and "Orloomdo Bland", I think it's answer a.
I Love Mayo and Kermode together, all though, I believe Mark is being very disrespectful to Mcconaughey by constantly referring to him as Mahogany. His film choices in the past may not all be good ones, but I thought he was great in the Lincoln lawyer. and his recent Oscar win only shows us how far he's come on as a actor, when he keeps his shirt on that is!
I just watched the film there tonight, i found it quite engrossing and generally quite enjoyable, but it does go a bit american soap opera-ish near the end which spoils it a bit. Ryan Phillippe's character is very unlikeable as usual right from the start, all smug and creepy.
Kermode's hatred towards Grisham is just ridiculous! Just because he's seen and dislike films based on his novels, doesn't mean he can criticised the author because he may not have any involvement. Read his novels and then review his works!
Listening to this today, knowing what a great movie The Lincoln Lawyer is, and how it was the start of Matthew McConaughey's Oscar winning comeback only emphasises what a offensive, pompous and talentless twat Mark Kermode is. I honestly don't think he even watched the movie, so vague is his criticism of it. "It could be a TV movie" - no it couldn't. "Typical John Grisham fare" - it's Michael Connolly, whose books are nothing like John Grisham's. This is typical Kermode, all soundbites and no insight. Worst film critic ever!
Maybe if Kermode had stopped overemphasizing the mahogany thing the prattling wouldn't have taken place in the first place? once is funny, after that it's just annoying. Still think he's a great film critic though, and i agree with an awful lot of what he says about films, but not this one, or Matthew McConnaghy
I love Kermode and Mayo's odd couple arguments :)
Pedantic Kermode & Smarmy Mayo . Petfect Comedy. Hope it never ends
Matthew Mahogany?
lol
Who
first i thought it is a one time mistake, then he did again! :D
and again
well he keeps doing it for the rest of the video :D LOL

now that was a good bit of wittering
:)
I liked the Lincoln Lawyer. The cinematography reminded me of Micheal Mann movie the Insider and I thought it was quite stylish
By calling him Matthew Mahogany, is Mark suggesting:
a) His acting is wooden?
b) His features are chiseled?
c) Other?
Mahogany is easy on the eye, easy to work with and very versatile (I make furniture )

This film is totally generic but it has an excellent title sequence; watch the first two minutes and then switch it off.

The firm was an excellent adaptation of Grisham's work. Kermode just comes across as being bitter here
