that black spinel really does make the crystal opal caps, pop.
Where do you see spinel, that's iron stone or bolder opal doublet.
I got my eye on a lump of rough Thai black jack spinel for doublets. I also want to make a big ring stone from. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger, as I don't know how to judge the quality of the rough.
I have a couple pieces of bolder opal cabs coming. If the color is not good they would make good doublets.
A turquoise cabber is using the mud from the turquoise and mixing it in with the epoxy. Looks pretty good for a doublet.

@@pigeonbloodruby5330 everytime i go digging for sapphs and topaz, theres always heaps of black spinel as a byproduct gem-find.... tasmania has more blackjack/spinel than anywhere else on the planet
