Congratulations 👏. I'm happy I just did that move about 2 months ago and having lots of fun. Yo I remember when you was like well I don't think ill go stage 3 big turbo, lol. You hooked lol. Its a bad habit. Enjoy it bro
I’ve been watching for awhile man great content!! I’ve been thinking of swapping turbos on my a3 for awhile now and I think i may make the switch soon! Can’t wait for the fallow up video and more content
Dude that looks sick man I just ordered mine I will definitely get a video up congrats 👏
Thanks for checking it out!
Heck yeah man! Looks like it rips. Can’t wait to take ride!!
Can't wait!
The two channels with the 2 cars Im torn between in perfect unison 😂
@@j.fusilier.0247 hahaha Q50 vs A3 well I can say I've personally owned both hahaha 😂
IS38 gang 💪🏼 I knew you would love it! Definitely makes a difference! Great video too! 👌🏼
Representing the IS38 gang & associates! Lol 😂 thanks for checking it out man!
Finishing touch to your build man!! All smiles
Yeah man it's been fantastic!
Been waiting for this!
Hey Dom! Long time no see big guy! Hope your doing well man 😎
So now you got yourself an S3 pretty much, good video!
Yessir! Lol it's been a blast man!
Nice one mate. You need to get this girl on a dyno..
I certainly plan to!!
The swap from is12 to 38 (mk7 golf) is mind blowing. Now I got an a3, I hope it’s as mind blowing. I read it’s like a is20 with a little more oomph and pulls longer up top.
Its a great improvement over the IS12/IS20! highly recommend! :)
Would you recommend it for someone who already has a is20 on the 1.8t and is looking to upgrade to is38?
@@yacluck8343 probably not worth it imo. Especially with FWD
sweet!!!
Thanks for checking it out Pete! Gotta keep up with your Golf R LOL
Man gives me hope! I’m debating what tune I use for my is38 swap on my gti. What other mods did you have to include on your stage three?
Thx for watching! Will need IS38, intercooler, downpipe, ecu and tcu tune. Would suggest going with a better hybrid turbo or drop in replacement since there are so many other options nowadays. Oem is38 still fine for the money though! 💰
Would be nice to see 0 to 60 time and lunch control to see and some exterior view too keep it up !
Planning on it! 🙂
I'm not jelly... Aight, I'm a llittle jelly. Sick gains, bro! Keep us updated on that additional power. Did you pair it with an aftermarket intercooler or stay stock?
What's up allen! Thanks for checking out the video! Already had the APR intercooler 🙂
Really nice work man ! What is the OEM power of your A3 ? Is the 2.0 tfsi 190 hp? Thanks from France man !!!
Thanks for checking out the video! mine is a 2.0T quattro with 220hp stock.
nice
Wish I was by the area; I’d love to see how your mods compare to a stock S3 (you’re definitely faster, I’m just curious how much so)
Haha yeah man it's a little rocket of a car! S3 is sick though too! Let me know if you need anything for it!
Now let’s rock some dragy runs.
I plan to! I need to get my dragy back from my co-worker! Lol 😆
@@savagepandaprojects interesting to see how the longer gears on the A3 puts the power down on the IS38 vs the S3. Steal that thing back from your coworker. Will be waiting bro.
@@ForRJ so far the gearing seems totally fine. I've seen guys go back and forth about longer vs shorter gearing between the transmissions. I don't think I push the car hard enough to where it would really matter. I wouldn't see any reason not to go IS38 on the A3. Its just such a fantastic value now with the pricing.
@@savagepandaprojects Cool, so you only push it when you are filming? Same here I only push it hard when I am driving 🤣 Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@ForRJ keep your eyes open for the next video!
Great video. Question do you know if the ihi20 waste gate works on the 38?
I’m having problems tunes the waste gate.
Thanks
I did not recall having any issues with that on this particular install. I believe this one was drop in ready.
GMP has great guys but those excessive charge on labor had me find a new shop.
Enjoy the new Is38 power. Did you get a lot of fault codes after reconnecting the battery? Did all of them clear after driving a bit?
Having a great time! No fault codes at all! 👍
@@savagepandaprojects Must be a Golf R thing. Car doesn't like the battery disconnected.
Good content man! My 2015 A3 Quattro is currently in APR Stage 1. When I checked with my local APR dealer they said they could only find the ‘IS38 with oem downpipe’ file for my car. Is it the same case for you?
Thanks for checking it out man! Ohhh yeah I could see that being a potential issue if you weren't already stage 2 with the authorization code. No possible way to go that route nowadays since the apr downpipes are discontinued, I already had that so I have the test pipe file still. *Pop pop pop* 😆
@@savagepandaprojects Hey man, did APR ask for any authorization codes when you upgrade to stage 3 testpipe file? I can still find some new APR Downpipes selling online. Do you think the codes with them will still work right now?
@@zhengxuanwen1524 so on mine it didn't ask for any Auth code. I already had it with the downpipe and stage 2 from a couple years earlier anyways. As far as I know I don't they would have any reason to deactivate any Auth codes for products still new in box.
Hey is there a good link for the dog bone and pendulum mount for the 2015 8v A3 2.0 Quattro cus it keeps giving me links to 2 different dog bone mounts and I have no clue which one to get, I just wanna beef up everything before I get the is38
Sure thing just send me a DM I'll help you out
5K miles into my is38 swap GIAC A3, not one single check engine light! Enjoy stage 3 but the car just wants to cruise at 90 where as the is20 likes 70-80.
Yeah man it's an amazing upgrade! Huge improvement 🔥
I’m UNI stage 1+ on my A3, intercooler and DP on their way. Going stage 2 Uni within a week or two. I’m already planning on going IS38 in the near future but I’m worried about DSG issues. You have anything else other than TCU tune to handle the extra torque?
Sounds like a great build. No worries on the DSG. Make sure to run the appropriate TCU tune for your stage 2 ECU tune. Stay on top of your maintenance and you'll be fine 🙂
The DSG has been proven to hold plenty of power. There’s tons of guys making 500whp on stock DSG. TCU tune of course
killer_vette is there more than one tcu tune depending on the power? Or does one do it for all including stage 3?
@@raildude270 I have been stage 2 now for a few months. There is a separate stage 2 tune
@@raildude270 mainly have stage 1 TCU which would be paired with stage 1 ECU of course. Then you have stage 2 TCU. Which can be paired with either one. Then you have stage 3 or custom if you go big turbo
I have an a3 8p wagon I was looking to upgrade. I'm sold on this is38. Looking for something I can just upgrade turbo and tune for now without having to do injectors and hpfp. I'll do that later on. First is the body I think. Rs3 front bumper. Rear bumper with diffuser. Side skirts. I have the spoiler. Rs5 led headlights and a paint job. Then it will be this is38 hybrid turbo and tune. I got the car for 3k in 2017. Blew motor. Put new one in blew that. The price 6 years later for one with 88k is 10k. Min3 has 88k on motor but 225k on tranny. Hope tranny holds up but I can do that 4k and still be around 10 to 12k into car
I’m stuck between getting the is38 and the hybrid version. What do you think?
It depends on your budget and how far you want to go. I went oem IS38 because of the value. I was able to upgrade to the IS38 tune from APR for $250 + the cost of the Turbo. The hybrids are more expensive plus you have to factor in custom tuning and fueling
How much did everything cost?
Turbo $1,000?
Stage 3 tcu/ecu tune probably $1500?
Downpipe $500?
Intercooler, hpfp, e30 flex kit, plugs and coils?
Thx for watching. This was installed with stock fueling system with 93 pump OTS tunes. I usually have parts linked in the video description where you can view current pricing 👍
Only question i have is did you drop the subframe at all?
Not on this install if I recall correctly
I have a MT 2019 Jetta GLI. Should I do this? What do you think ?
You definitely can! Would be a fun upgrade 🙂
Is that an a7III you're filming with!?!?!
Yessir it is 📷😎
Is the IS38 better than the K04? Also will IS38 work in an A5?
Yes stock IS38 is found on the 3rd gen 2.0 cars where thr K04 was on the older 2nd generation motors. No, the IS38 doesn't work on thr A5 unfortunately 😕
What supporting mods do you need before installing a bigger turbo on an s3?
basic stuff being intercooler, exhaust, 1 step colder plugs, ignition coils, etc. could be fueling requirements as well. depends on what your goals are etc.
@@savagepandaprojects any input on the mqb boss 500 turbo mine just has an upgraded intercooler and inlet pipe don’t want anything super crazy maybe just 400hp
@@fredrios4217 I wouldn't go that route personally I would suggest looking at the EQT vortex, DBV2, also the new drop in replacement turbo from APR. Just a few suggestions that are generally popular in the MQB community 😀
dfor the a3 when going stage 3 do the a3 need to upgrade fuel injectors or oem is okay?
Not on the 2.0 models
My S3 is full E85 on stock fuel injectors. It’s all good man
With this turbo fit the 2020 q3 turbo? 45 tfsi 2.0T?
I don't think so and there likely isn't tuning avaliable to support upgraded turbos on the current Q3. Those also use a Aisin Trans not the DSG so that would also present a limitation
I'm not sure if I could do this to my Audi A3 1.8L 2014 sedan quattro. Any thoughts guys?
Not sure in the US market we have the 1.8 in the FWD models only. All the 2.0 over here are quattro. People have definitely done IS38s on the 1.8 motor. MK7 all tracks, sportwagens etc.
Cheers man
can an Audi A3 rebuild engine handle is38etr v2 instead of is38 stock??
It really depends on the tune, condition of the motor and how it's driven. Might be ok if you have a conservative tune that keeps the torque down
How much would it cost to have an is38 installed and software upgraded ... parts and labor
really all depends on where you source your parts and where you take it. I would estimate the turbo itself around $1100-1200 then about 6-8 hrs labor.
Can you do this on a 2.0T FWD, or does it have to be an Quattro?
I wouldn't recommend it, traction will be a pretty major limiting factor
I’m going to do it soon on my 1.8T Audi A3, I already looks traction like crazy with a stage 2 tune, can’t imagine how much more traction will be lost with an upgraded turbo soon😂
do you have a part list what to buy new ?
Planning on making a video covering this stay tuned!
Hey was wondering if it would be safe to do a is38 swap on a 1.8t mk7 golf?
You definitely can but I wouldn't push it beyond OTS tuning (apr, IE, Uni etc.) Have fun!
@@savagepandaprojects so jb4 would be out of the question I'm guessing 🤔 thanks for the reply!
@@yacluck8343 yes definitely don't want to use jb4
@@savagepandaprojects the thing is I have the tiptronic transmission, would it still be fine?
So do you have a CEL now? APR doesn’t shut off the rear o2 anymore.
I do not because I already had the authorization code from the previous purchase of the downpipe.
@@savagepandaprojects hmmm interesting. I am already stage 2 APR I got it before the cut off date. Wonder if I’d be good also?
@@branman65 most likely you would be good.
@@savagepandaprojects so did you use the auth code at the same time as installing the is38? Sorry this is my last question. Thank you.
@@branman65 no worries. You can always send me a DM on IG. I don't believe we had to for this particular install with the IS38
have you changed the injectors?
can you give me the link for that please ,
No injectors needed
@@savagepandaprojects thank you :)
Is the is38 what comes in the s3? Or rs3? Anyone from CA know if this would be a problem for smog laws?
Yes sir IS38 is stock turbo from golf R/S3. You can run them with oem downpipes so I wouldn't think that be a problem.
is it safe to run to run this turbo with no tune for a while?
I would suggest that you tune the car at the same time of installation but the car will run on an OEM IS38
What type of fuel u running in the video?
93 octane file
If I missed this, what needs to be done for the fuel system?
no fueling upgrade needed on this turbo (OEM IS38) 93 octane
That’s really awesome !
So how large is an Is38 vs K04?
Apparently I was told that anything larger than k04 on Audi GDI engines would need upgrades fuel system as those bigger turbos such as GTX2867R won’t get “woken up”...by the stock system.
My car is a A4 B8.5 2.0T, apparently that’s the go... anything around GTX2867R, may need larger injectors and possibly port injection or both... and the OEM ecu isn’t capable and needs standalone management. Unless A3 2.0T has a more capable system in audi?
@@eeiko321 the 2.0T in your car is different from the one in the A3
What is the difference then?
@@eeiko321 if I’m not mistaken, you have the Gen 2 EA888 motor compared to the newer Gen 3 EA888 motor
How much for the entire turbo upgrade?
Got the turbo on sale for black Friday just under a grand. The cost of the ECU tune from stage 2 -> to stage 3 was $250
Savage Panda Projects what about the labor? Btw, thank you!!
Can I install it on a A3 1.6 TDI?
Not compatible
How much hp and torque?
about 395hp and 385tq (estimated crank figures 93 OCT)
Anyone here on efr7163?
Intercooler needed?
Yes for sure. For this build we already had the APR intercooler
@@savagepandaprojects yes it's obvious now you mention it. Thanks!
Where you guys are located?
Charlotte NC
now wheres the quarter miles at lol
Ha! yes that would be fun!
How much does this cost?
Turbo itself is usually about a grand. The stage 3 tune Upgrade price from stage 2 is $250. Then of course add Labor/ installation
@@savagepandaprojects hey I got a question, so I have a buddy who has a 2018 A3 premium non Quattro, was wondering if it was possible to do an IS38 swap with the IS20 and doing the APR tune with it, can it happen?
@@davidcastillo5405 yes this is possible but the 1.8 FWD is going to have so many traction issues I don't see a benefit as it's going to be nearly impossible to get the power down.
@@savagepandaprojects its the 2.0 TFSI a3 premium same engine as the quattro, and thanks bud!! that informations helps lots
No dyno??
OTS tune ...the heavy lifting is already done by the calibrators at APR so really no benefit to dyno.
Where you guys located?
CLT NC
@@savagepandaprojects oh nice I’ll be down in Charlotte in December with my car. I have a FBO E85 S3. 11.3 1/4 mile 0-60 3.4

@@savagepandaprojects for sure! Might need a hybrid turbo install from you guys too
I'm Not too impressed with my APR IS38 setup on my G7 Gti, 0-150km/h does the same time plus I did TCU software. Hmmm
I think the challenge really there is the limitations of FWD. This car hooks up no prob. 0-60 easily under 4 seconds
