  • More and more around YT and TikTok, there are videos appearing to address one or more "DTF Hacks". Today I wanted to explore what these hacks are, why people are talking about them so much, and whether they really work. So let's get to it! The sublimation gods laughed and laughed.

    Ive been practicing for months and havent seen the transfer adhesive.
    I use DTF inkjet printer with the powder. Im struggling with pulling the color for ceramic car coasters. But i refuse to give up, because im soooo close. I got it looking ok. They are selling but the ppl are fully aware im trying new stuff and am totally new to this and am practicing.

      Good on you for your persistence - I admit to calling it quits simply because I felt like continuing to try would mean throwing even more money out the window.

  • @LuxindasOtherObsessions

    Have you tried either of these DTF hacks for pressing onto cotton? If so, which worked for you? Also, if you have ANY tips or suggestions, please feel free to comment here - I admit this is all very new territory for me and I could use the help. 🤣🤣
    Happy New Year, everyone!!

      I have been obsessively trying different methods. I wish I wasn't uncomfortable filming. I have learned a lot. And wasted a lot. From keychains, puzzles. Shirts, socks, ceramic coasters, dominoes 😂 hot mess express over here

    I enjoyed your video it was honest in its presentation which I liked. This DTF powder hack to me is a lot of extra time with curing the powder can be messy in a limited work area. I am a sublimation Junkie, with sublimation I know once I have the image, the correct ICC profile the recommended times for the product it is a 'Job Done'. For your other subscribers two main types of printhead technology, using either heat or a Piezo element (Epson printers use the Piezo no heat) that is why not all eco tanks will work. Most of the others use heat to get the same effect of dots, therein lies the danger of the ink drying very quickly. I did enjoy the presentation it was easy listening. I am no expert, I am 14 months practicing and watching others and getting information from manufacturers and Retired which helps. Thank you again

    I cant wait to see the after washing results I've not seen a good result on the inkjet version yet... I dont plan to do any of hese hacks ever ibwas intrigued when theyvstarted popping up but now not so much! Ibdo live the vintage like look of the subs on less than perfect percentages!

      I just finished the 3rd wash-and-dry cycle on these shirts today, and the inkjet one is a total fail, lol! But the other, the sub ink DTF shirt, held up well - I was pleasantly surprised.

    It's a combination of the product and what you did. I saw 3 minutes of curing, and that person did a wash test.

      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem +2

      Well, I did a wash test in this video and that made it worse, but I can certainly try curing the powder longer to see if that helps - I’m just not convinced this is a method that will produce sellable quality results.

      @@LuxindasOtherObsessions you’re probably right. I have been researching, and it seems that sublimation ink is best with the DTF powder.

    Thank you for doing this test. I don't have a sublimation printer but was interested in the ink jet process. I'll stick to sending in my images to be printed on sublimation for me.

      What I did was save my tumbler and vinyl shirt money(well half) used Sezzle and made 4 payments with Target for the 2720 tank printer and I use Hippo ink. With that I can still do the hack using dtf film. But it biggest print is 8.5x11 (A4) & legal

      @passionsdesignstates299 Před rokem +1

      If you get a larger print area eco tank you will need to remove the roller bar

    Omg! You and I are having the same issue and we both followed the same persons suggestion. I have since texted with several crafters and found that the results they had were totally different than mine. One crafter use to cure her films but now does not and she still has amazing results. I just purchased different film today to try with that same powder you are using. If my results are NOT improved I will have to try the Godora adhesive powder since all the people I spoke with use that brand with much success. They also press at 385 for 40 secs with warm to cool peel. I’ll post back my results with the new film. 😊 Thank you for posting your tutorial experience.

      Ah ha! Well, definitely let me know. I've thought about trying a different film and powder (if they weren't so darn expensive to use a couple times then abandon), so the materials I used could definitely be the culprit!

      1/9 update:
      I bought some different DTF Film- Welacer brand because I saw others recommend it 🤔 I once again followed the process and the results were basically the same 😢 So I checked again on the net for suggestions and another crafter suggested curing the picture then powder it a 2nd time and cure it again completely. So I did BUT I also lowered my temp to 365 and cured the product each time for 3 full minutes before pressing it at 365 for 1 minute. That got me the best results so far but not one that I would think of selling a shirt like that. The peel was still very difficult. I just watched another crafter’s technique which I will try tonight and update with that result. This seems to me to be way too time consuming. Lol

      @@lynnebizlyne436 yeah, I agree. The DTF with sub ink that I show in this video looks a LOT brighter on camera than the actual sublimation I did on the 50/50 blend shirt, but the actual in-person quality is night and day different. I'd sell the sublimated one (maybe as a "vintage style" because it looks a little faded), but I don't think I'd feel right selling the DTF hack one. Honestly, the Gildan "soft style" shirts that come in 65/35 blend with all the heather colors as SO soft, I now wear them almost exclusively, and I used to be a "never anything but cotton!" person... But this hack is still obviously catching a lot of people's attention. Please let me know if the next attempt comes out better!

      @@LuxindasOtherObsessions Another update: I tried again using both inkjet ink and sublimation last night. New method of powdering the picture immediately and curing for 4+ minutes and then repeat the powder and cure again and then press. At 325T a no luck. At 465 T and 40 secs no luck with inkjet ink but the sublimation did turn out a nice picture with a difficult cold peel. Now I did read today that the NGOODIEZ ( the one I have) brand says online that it ONLY works with DTF printers and DTF film. Well I used DTF Film with minimal success (definitely not a sellable result) The original film I bought, Octago, turned out a better result by far but still too much effort for the results and time being invested. On that note my summation and experience with this hack would be to try another powder, an expense I am hesitant to do since I’m not guaranteed the hack will work for me, or to just chalk this up as a long exasperating failed experience. Lol

    Wow interesting, ink and printer must definitely make a difference (for inkjet), a lot of people are transferring successfully. But my question is, how well do they hold up to repeated washing, my guess would be not to well? One creator said she washed it (once) in cold water and line dried with no issues, but, really, they're t-shirts, who is going to take that much care with a t-shirt (plus I don't like how t-shirts dry when hung up wet anyway). I like colored t-shirts and have two inkjet printers, so was really hoping for success, but guess it's sublimation printer for me if I want to do transfers 😃

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem

      Well, this is just my personal experience, and I agree that other videos testing this method out seems to get great results. So I don’t want you to stop researching just from my test, because I may have done something wrong. I will say, tho, that I definitely think sublimation works better, but again - my experience with t-shirt pressing overall is still pretty limited.
      And I agree with you - I don’t baby my t-shirts, so no line drying for me 😁

      Thanks for your comment! I didn’t have too much roller mark trouble, plus, since I wasn’t thrilled with this DTF hack, I basically stopped using it. So I’m not really able to give you a good answer. I believe Angie Holden has done at least one video about getting rid of printer roller marks, so you might check her channel
