History of Durga Puja in Krishnanagar Rajbari
Krishnanagar Rajbari's Durga Puja is one of the oldest Durga Puja in West Bengal. It takes place in Krishnanagar Rajbari every year. Rajbari complex remains open during Durga Puja and Jagadhatri Puja festivals. History of this Puja dated nearly 350 years back. King of Nadia Raja Rudra Roy, great grandfather of famous king Raja Krishnachandra Roy, started this puja in Krishnanagar Rajbari (palace) in 1683. He started worshipping the goddess for well-being and happiness for his estate. Durga is worshipped here as Raj Rajeshwari, an incarnation of Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and happiness. Durga idol is dressed as a warrior and her lion looks more likely a horse. King used to care a lot to his people. That's why this Royal puja was not just a Royal affair. From the time of it's inauguration, it was a “Sarbojonin” festival.
