My father got AS at 19 in the army he died 3 days ago at 82,5 he had AS and COPD he closed his eyes at the hospital then he was gone he simply decided that it was his time he didn't want to experience the risk of a wheelchair and oxygen assistance he told me "if i can't walk on my own then i will stop taking my medications" R.I.P. dad you were a warrior 1941-2024
i'm 32 and i have had AS since 20/21 it's hell on earth he had a older son who died at 46 had severe AS it was a heart attack the heart exploded so yeah AS is quite scary...
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your father sounds like a true warrior and his decision to stop taking medications shows his strength and independence. Sending you lots of love during this difficult time.

Ooooh love I'm so sorry.. Our father's would have been amazing friends. I lost my father January 2022. He also had a arthritic condition that was severe. He never went to a Rheumatologist or orthopedic doctor He also had congested, heart failure.And copd just like your father, if he couldn't use his own Body, it wasn't an option towards the end. It got really bad. He accepted a wheelchair 2 times at the hospital for imaging but only if I pushed it. He refused when it was time for him to use a Walker. It was the only time he got upset with me when he saw me bringing in all the equipment.
I completely understand what you're going through. As I was with my father for the 4 months we had from the date of diagnosis of cancer.
4 over a year. II don't remember the year.I had just lost such a big piece of me😢 I'm trying still to this day but I know he's with me as I am now on my journey of pain.
And I find out on the twenty ninth of may if I have AS But I think I already know the answer. I'm sending you the biggest hug and prayers of healing. Cry scream do whatever you have to blessings to you and your family again. I'm. So sorry🥺❤...Your Father was a strong Man❤..

I have Juvenile Ankylosing Spondylitis when I was 13 years old , now I am 25 years old and facing partial numbness in saddle area and legs below knees.No urine or bowel symptoms.

Dr. G. I am an Athletic Trainer in a high school. I have a 15 year old female athlete who was tested for HLA B27 because of family history and is positive. She has developed a significant inflammation of her right knee and is not responding to typical care. She was referred to her Rheumatologist, medications were prescribed (I was not told what drugs were prescribed) her mother did not want her to start them at her age because of the harsh side affects. She opted for acupuncture the person treated her with a larger gauge needle about 12 needle punctures within a 1 inch square to an area below the anterior joint line medial side of the knee. then applied cupping to draw blood from each puncture site. Stating he was stimulating a inflammatory response to increase blood flow, deliver nutrients and cells to reduce the chronic inflammation. My understanding is that her condition causes her body immune system is attacking her own tissues. So would it not be contra productive to generate more of an inflammatory response in an already inflamed knee.

Great video all the time is unspecified inflammatory spondyloarthropathy lumbosacral the same as ankylosing spondylitis

Thank U Dr , Greetings From Indonesia , i am a 43 year old male, was diagnosed since 2002. Medication that i took when i flare up is Sulfazalazine and celebrex. Flare up cause by food with sugar corn fructose and shellfish and air pollution. I ate a high dosage of Vit D and Fishoil. Still exercise regularly 5 days a week. Run, cycling rowing and power lifting. Survive Army for 2,5 yrs and many marathon and triathlon and Spartan obstacle races. But more flare up happens since covid vaccine, i cant and more sensitive to allergic such as coloring on foods. Tips for all other fellow AS, i suggest u took allergic test. Mam,when the osteoporosis occures? I mean i have diagonosed with that disease and it is in early stage so, when is the possibility to grow osteoporosis?
I have something bad going on with my back. I stay in pain 24/7. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis of the spine at 34. I’m now 38 and have been to 2 different rheumatologists. I may have Ankylosing Spondylitis or some type of inflammatory arthritis. I go back to see the doctor in about 4 weeks.

It can be brutally painful, but also it can be managed, depending on each patient.

That was my experience for almost 20 years and as a human the worst thing to hear a doctor tell you is that its all in your head.

So glad i found this. I have been for a few blood tests, i had test done for rhumatoid arthiritis it came back false negative, my test for imflammation came back positive, my vitamin D came back low. I had xrays in my back/hip they came back as nothing showing, my neck and back came back saying i have arthitis. Its so confusing as my worst pain comes from my back and hip, although my full body aches, i wake up 2-3 times a night with my forearms, elbow and shoulders aching, my hands ache, wrist, ankles, hip and lower back, And my groin. Also have plantar fascitits in both feet. I have been referred to a rhumatalogist but going to be a long wait. Dont know if i can wait months i have been trying to get this sorted for years this is them just doing these tests. I am so down about my day to day life, my pain on a good day is a 7 out of 10 on a bad day 10. So tired and fed up. Take meloxicam and dhyrcodiene, vitamin d, and onzeprole
Omg, with the exception of the groin, you sound JUST LIKE ME!! Have you found any answers? I surely havent! Sometimes I wish I had a pain pill the size of a football and just take big bites out of it!
I feel your pain. I am dealing with exactly the same situation. Long waits for rheumatologists in US. I'm seeing a doctor overseas temporarily until i get my appointment because the pain is sometimes unbearable. Hope you get well soon!
I got naproxen 550mg 2 per day from my Dr, till i can see the specialist, it helps a fair bit

I had been diagnosed with AS since 2016. Since then my Rheumatologist push on me Celebrex or Diclofenac. I'm trying not to take this meds as much as I can avoid them because I believe this meds in the long run will give me another problem.
Something that you didn't mention that happens to me is that when I'm going to have a flare I feel like I'm going to have fever but the thermometer doesn't show it.
What is your opinion about this?

Good question this happens to me too. I have talked to another Dr and also asked my Rheumatologist about it but they just looked at me strangely... ha ha
I have this and I can't find any doctor to treat me. Hardly any rheumatologist will see me because I have government state insurance and nobody wants to treat me. The very few ones that will treat me have waitlist of many years long as I live in one of the post poplulated cities in the USA and I can't get any pain relief. My regular pcp doctor refuses to give me anything for pain except ibuprofen or extra stengrh tylenol, (which does absolutely nothing) and that ibuprofen gives me bruises and it killed my unborn baby and caused me to almost bleed to death. I had to have emergency surgery just because I took 2 ibuprofen while I was pregnant, and I didn't know I was pregnant. The pain is unbearable 😢 I don't even want to live anymore. 💔

Hi, I have a quick question. Something you said was very interesting. You stated that people with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease can also develop a form of AS?? so can you tell me is there various forms of AS? If so, what form of AS do people with crohns or ulcerative colitis develop? Thank you so much.
Yes they can develop AS / seronegative spondylitis

I think I have this. I have all the symptoms except sausage fidgets, except that my fingers are lumpy from arthritis. I started to have lower back pain in high school and later, my rheumatologist said o have possible AS.
I was just saying that my eyes are bugging me for a long time.

@@rheumatologistoncallI did and was diagnosed with it and my entire spine has fused together. I’m only 4’ 9” and 95 lbs., so it’s not like I’ve ever been overweight and non exercising until now that I also have Lyme and incredible pain.
Just got suspected for nr-axSpA…with no definitive diagnosis. Is that normal to have low grade fever no matter what drugs I take, including corticosteroids??
I am afraid to apply for biologics with that unexplained fever..

Fever is usually a sign of infection or inflammation. You need a full evaluation.

Doctors in Bulgaria say there is no point to check for infection or inflammation outside joints when my inflammatory markers are all fine - CRP, ESR etc. But I will do my best to search look up in every organ and system in my body. It is real hell to live with this ..it came so suddenly and acutely. Is this typical for ankylosing spondylitis?
I am having history or ReA in my childhood with complete recovery ...so it might be the same now.

@@slyj03maxx buttock pain can come from multiple reasons most likely from inflammation of the sacroiliac joints. Treatment is directed toward decreasing inflammation and then add physical therapy
@@rheumatologistoncall Physical therapy aimed at what? SI joint dysfunction? Hips? What is actually causing the additional inflammation and how can it be treated outside of biologics?
I have this problem. In my case I have to hernias in my spine that cause my sciatic nerve give me pain. The pain is alternated bit generally in theleft side where the hip is very painful most of the time when I take walk and can run until the knew or some timea ankles. This is terrible and so painful.
Can a orthopedic diagnose for this? Does it come up in a blood test?

Well thank you ! I was just curious if the butt pain goes away because I don’t take meds ! I have leaky gut and other stomach problems that eventually led to this AS thing due to poor immune system function! So just curious to know if but pain is life long?with out meds
i am 48 and just diagnosed , so the notion of it being diagnosed only in young people is nonsense....

You have no idea when it might have started. You know when you got some of the symptoms but it could have started yesterday or years before then. Chronic pain is multifaceted not everyone experiences it the same as the next person.
The habitual swaying is most disconcerting making it difficult to concentrate on the message.
