Matijević's high register isn't just mind blowing because of the pitch but because of the crazy power he had in that range.
You nailed it Lex.. modern singers do not have the ability to sing in this register..
This guy is truly gifted..
He still performs.. he sounds great live..

Milijenko Matijevic is one of the best from the Era. We used to try and match him. We never could.
I wasn't telling no fibs when I said that you wouldn't believe the guy's vocal range. It gets your attention. You should check out the official song video. It adds something to the experience.
We used to talk about this dude,back in the day.Unreal voice.This was a SERIOUS "get lucky" song.After cruising the Avenue for a few hours on Friday and Saturday and all the cats and chics paired off,you had this on a tape in your console for that denim miniskirt wearing,big hair,eyelinered smokin' hot girl you were beeping at all night :-) Oh,I miss the glory days,sometimes.Thank you for the reminder.
LOL, I know they formed in the late 80's and had their run in the 90's so to hear that described as "back in the day" just makes me laugh because I'm a kid of the 70's so to me "back in the day" was 20 years before this band. I'm not busting your onions, I mean anything 20 years old is technically a classic so now even stuff in this century is classic, but time goes by faster the older you get and sometimes it makes you laugh and sometimes it bums you out. I remember the first time a chick called me "Sir", I was in college and this girl was younger but I didn't feel old, I still had all my hair, it wasn't white,, but man did hearing that age me 20 years!

To see/hear how high Miljenko's range really was please check out "Sheila" by Steelheart. That's the highest he ever got and I really recommend the "Live in Hong Kong, CHN (1992)" version (the studio version is really solid as well). Skip to 04:18 to see the master in action, holy cow does he ramp it up with each scream at the end of the song. His voice reaches the stratosphere with that B5 in that last one, goosebumps...
It's so sad what happened to him on stage:
"MATIJEVIC DECIDED TO CLIMB A LIGHTING TRUSS WHICH WAS FOR SOME REASON IMPROPERLY SECURED SO AS MATIJEVIC CLIMBED THE RIG IT BROKE FREE. MATIJEVIC TRIED TO DODGE THE 1000 POUND PIECE OF EQUIPMENT TO NO AVAIL; IT HIT HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD, DRIVING HIM FACE FIRST INTO THE STAGE. THE OUTCOME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS A BROKEN NOSE, CHEEKBONE, JAW, TWISTED SPINE, AND SEVERE MEMORY LOSS. MATIJEVIC MIRACULOUSLY FOUND THE STRENGTH TO WALK OFF THE STAGE AND WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. IT WAS TO BE THE LAST TIME THE ORIGINAL LINEUP OF STEELHEART WOULD EVER PERFORM TOGETHER.
MATIJEVIC HAD A LONG, PAIN STRICKEN, DIFFICULT ROAD TO RECOVERY AS THE ACCIDENT DID FAR MORE DAMAGE THAN ANYONE COULD HAVE KNOWN AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WHICH LEFT MATIJEVIC TO FIGHT THIS BATTLE ALONE FOR A LONG TIME".
Such a tragic ending to such a great band. I always try to encourage reactors I think would enjoy this band to react to them when I can since I love them so much, especially Miljenko's heavenly, angelic voice that remain one of my absolute favorites.

I saw Steelheart open for BulletBoys and Great White in the summer of '91 a few months before my 21st birthday. It was a hell of a show.

This was my Me and my wife’s Anthem in 91. Michaels voice is beyond most any iconic singer from the 90 s. Sebastian Bach from Skid Row has the same range, but Michael could hit those high notes on a dime!! He was way ahead of his time. Until that night in 92 he pulled down a railing that wasn’t secured and he ended up with a traumatic brain injury. That was last night Steelheart played as a band.

That's not entirely true. Steelheart resumed playing as a band in 1996...only with Miljenko Matijevic as the only remaining original member. They're still playing as Steelheart to this day. Miljenko was also the singing voice of Mark Wahlberg's character in "Rock Star".

I'm so glad you did this one. I love this song. You should also check out "We All Die Young" from the movie "Rock Star". It is also sung by Mike Miljenko and is a great song.
Saw Steelheart at the M3 Festival in July. He still has that powerful voice.

I live in Baltimore. I didn't see them this year due tyo covid but I saw them in May 2013 at M3. Incredible performance!
@@MetalMcfly I live in Manassas , I was really disappointed last year they finally got Doro to play it and boom cancelled . I can't remember if I went that year haven't gone to to many shows after my girlfriend died.
The bootlegs from that concert are mindblowing. The performance of I'll never let you go is incredibly good for a singer pushing 60. My favorite.

Without a doubt, you all are my FAVORITE couple on CZcams, hands down. I turn 60 in a couple of months and I have had the opportunity to see most of these bands live for $6.50 a ticket. Life has been good. I really envy you all with so much awesome music out there and love watching you listen for the first time.

This is one of my favorite songs to watch someone review… and anybody who knows this song knows why… I love watching their expressions when the guy hits that note for the first time… every review I’ve seen so far, the look on their face is the same.

Had the singer on my Podcast show a few years ago. Really nice guy. He's still touring.
This was 1991, the very last of the hairmetal. Just a couple months later, this music died a horrible death and was never heard again lol. A band called the Darkness came outcirca 2005, and the singer was definitely vibing off this and this kind of music

If this had come out about 3 or 4 years sooner, they could have been one of the biggest 80s hair bands of all time. Sadly most of the world was ready to move on from hair bands by the time this song was popular. Depressing and dark debauch energy of grunge was quickly becoming the new mainstream at the time this song made landfall.
Their other big hit was "She's Gone" Equally epic vocals.
Also didn't help that the lead singer was nearly killed in a stage accident while on tour supporting their follow-up album.
I never really got the pushback hair metal often receives. There's a LOT of great stuff going on musically, and this song is an excellent example of that.
They had another great ballad called She s Gone which is killer.

A few other Steelheart bangers are Everybody Loves Eileen, She's Gone and Late For The Party. A few more late 80's, early 90's power ballads to check out are Firehouse's trilogy of Love of a Lifetime, When I Look Into You Eyes and I Live My Life For You. L.A. Guns is a great hard rock band with some good ballads It's Over Now, Crystal Eyes, One Way Ticket and the Ballad of Jayne.
