    BMW offers the R1250RS, F900XR, S1000XR or even the K1600GT, but Yammie chooses the RT as the sport-tourer. This is madness.

      @andrewwelham8633 Před 2 lety +10

      Well.... The R1250RS does not have a touring size has tank and the K1600GT is pure touring, you're going to have to bring your A-game to convince me that the Gold Wing challenger is a SPORT Touring motorcycle. I'll give you the other two, but they really aren't the BMW sport touring flagship like the RT 1200 was and the RT 1250 is.

    Another overlooked MC is the Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT+. Since 2019, it has all the electronic goodies and is thousands of dollars less than the European makes. 118-120 HP (depending on which stat sheet you believe) & 105 ft lbs. of torque. I noticed several of the MC's that make 140-165 HP, but only delivered 105 or less ft. lbs. of torque. The Versys has usable luggage capacity for 2 up, especially if you add a rear trunk. Own a 2016 with almost 60,000 miles with absolutely 0 problems except for routine maintenance. European MC's just don't have the reliability that Japanese MC's enjoy. Versys ownership includes you are unique because you rarely see any on the highway and there are great deals on leftover models at around $16,000. A highly underrated & overlooked Sport Tourer.

    7:05 Tracer 9GT. I've had one for over a year & it is A GREAT BIKE, but with some rough edges. First, the engine & chassis is an amazing combination, it's powerful, handles very well & even the fuel economy is great (over 52mpg even with lots of so-so commuting). The display is a let down, I can't see how this is cheaper than a full TFT display. The touring screen is simply cra@p, doesn't really keep the wind off you, makes a lot of noise & the buffeting is hell. The seat is hard, badly shaped & tilted forward, making for a very uncomfortable time after about 1 hour or so.
    It's small problems like this that Yamaha could easily put right in production, but owners can easily improve everything except the display. Despite these issues I knew the Tracer 9GT was for me as soon as I tried one out, there were better bikes but at considerably greater expense (talking to you, BMW). The Suzuki GSX R1000GT+ looks like it's close & I will get to find out later this month when I try out a friend's bike once it's delivered, but I already know that the Tracer's MPG will be a lot better & I suspect that even if I'd had the choice the Tracer was still going to be my choice.

    My first new bike was a '92 VFR750F with the greatest one up platform for long distance cruising. Then a '95 BMW R1100RS for more comfortable pillion without the weight of the RT. Currently on a 2002 ST1100 that had 19k on the clock when purchased 4 years ago. A shaft drive is almost requisite for 2000 plus mile trips with a pillion. I haven't been on the Aprilia Tuono to date, but the BMW R1250RS is a much better platform for crushing miles and still experiencing the elements than the RT. The Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX is let down by poor throttle response and the chain drive. Honda needs to get back in the game. I know you are generally haters, but for Iron Butt runs and long road trips on secondary highways, sport touring bikes keep you comfortable without the excessive comforts of touring rigs. When your bike has reverse, it's time for a convertible.

    Obviously everyone loves his own bike. I wouldn't comment but sport touring is my thought of living. I got into bikes since birth as a pillion in my cousin's Honda 900 rr and I was missing it until my 42.
    3 years ago I bought a used Gilera Runner 125 2stroke ( upgraded to 180cc) and one year after a new Citycom 300cc .
    Smooth and comfortable but still not satisfied. Being toooooo old and inexperienced for a sport bike ( like yammy says ) I wanted something comfortable for 2 persons and luggage,
    cheap yet bulletproof and reliable regardless mileage, needing almost "no" maintenance, easy driven and rider friendly, BUT fast like hell with sport dna .
    So , for 8 months now and lots of km (Europe) I own a Yamaha Fine Jet Rocket 1300cc first gen with ABS and believe me when I say it I have a "selfish" last wish to get buried with my beast when I grow older. I deeply know you missed her in your vid because it's the 8th secret forged

    The Super Duke GT is only on temporary hiatus, will probably be back next year on the new super duke platform. I demoed one a few years back, it's literally just a super duke with more wind protection and a bigger tank, same insane torque monster motor and giant supermoto personality. One that belongs on the list. Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, the H2-SX's little (and significantly less expensive) brother, very similar specs to the Suzuki, but slightly cheaper.

Mozart (as in this video) as your background music. Evidently, if I noticed, I love this music. But, I was just wondering the motivation behind your choice. Are you also a classical music lover? I'd love to find out - from one Ducatista to another.

    I'll never understand why he bashes sport tourers. I ride the crap out of my FJR all over the west. I've seen and experienced so much on it, all while being able to rip around curves, fully loaded with a massive amount of gear. I have no desire to break my pelvis riding up and down trails, and I want to go fast. The sport touring segment is the best thing going, and has been for a long time. Everyone is buying adventure tourers, but few are riding them off road. The only advantage to those is a slightly more comfortable seating position for longer rides. But they suck for anyone under 5'10".

Its funny I am finally looking for a sport touring bike, Late Bloomer, the retro Café Racers are very appealing to me for that reason however I decided to look at a real sport touring bike, how come they all look like adventure bikes, back in the 80's a sport touring bike was the sport bike with different handle bars for a more upright seating position, frig the new sport touring bikes they are all fugly, but not the Kawasaki its nice. I'm going to buy an old 1984 900 Ninja, that is a nice sport touring bike, HP, Yawner.

    • @altortugas5979
      @altortugas5979 Před 2 lety +1

      1) Because it’s an American company.
      2) Because the overseas assembly plants were for the purpose of market-penetrating FDI (same reason Goldwing’s used to be made in Ohio, then import laws changed)
      3) Every manufacturer sources parts from overseas, so it’s all about the brand’s homeland when it comes to “where a bike is from.”
      Stop being a nob.

    • @altortugas5979
      @altortugas5979 Před 2 lety +1

      John Ridley, well that just makes the point for my initial post, since all Goldwings are made in Japan now. As to your point, yeah, it might make you feel better about Toyotas, them being largely assembled in the US, and that’s great and all, but that doesn’t make it an American car or Toyota and American company, at least not in my opinion.

      It is probably you that make the bike wiggle. Are you hold your handlebars to hard, and not holding on to the bike with your legs? Try not holding the handlebars when wind hits the bike, or you get passed by big trucks. It is probably you that wiggle, not the bike.
      Or you should trailer your bike to a mechanic and have it fixed. Because then it is something terrible wrong with your bike. And it can fall apart any second.
