It seems like every time the Rangers were in the offensive zone, they would get one shot from the perimeter and then the Panthers would get possession. They may have played badly, but I think most of that is due to Florida. We always seem to struggle against skilled and bruising teams. I had some hope when we beat Carolina, but each one the Carolina games were close and the series should have gone to 7 games. Florida is Carolina but with more skill and depth. I hope we still win, but now, I just hope the games are exciting.
And better goaltending than Carolina, and more physicality, and harder on pucks, and better on PK, and deeper offensively, better systems, a smarter coach... i could go on
This was just what the rangers 5v5 has been for years. The team´s only weapon is powerplay and counters that just don´t happen as much in the playoffs. 5v5 numbers they are not even that much better than teams like buffalo, ottawa etc. Now that they finally get to play a great 5v5 it really shows.
They need to step up big time. There is no streak anymore on which they can ride on. Frustrating game as a Rangers Fan. They knew exactly what was coming and weren't up to the challenge. This could be a short series.
It makes me even more annoyed as a Canes fan to realize that this is what we could have done to the Rangers...IF we had elite goaltending. I see how Florida plays such a similar game...being dominant 5v5, hard forechecking, etc...but the biggest difference is Florida has Bobrovsky whereas we had Andersen. Freddie wasn't terrible, but he wasn't great which is what we needed from him. Even with our terrible special teams, we were only losing games by a goal. Igor made crucial stops, whereas Andersen didn't. That's basically the series in a nutshell, and I see it clear as day now what the Canes number 1 priority should be in the off-season.
That third period of game six in the first five minutes the canes hit I believe two posts and Igor made two incredible saves. The Rangers never come back if the canes score a couple goals.

But lets also remember that goaltending is intimately tied to special teams. The goalie needs to be the best penalty killer in when the playoffs start.
The other thing about the panthers no one is talking about. They shut down the number 1 power play in round 1. Like completely shut it down till the end of the round. Also I feel like Florida has all the elite goalies of the future in our ahl system, and the best backup goalie who had some of the best overall numbers in the regular season. So if I were the hurricanes I'd be trying to grab one of the 4 goalies we have available, all of them are ufas after this season. including Spencer knight, but I belive he is trade bait for Leon draisaitl when he leaves the oilers this year. And then our two prospects will be ready for some crazy trades a few years after that.

This was a statement win for Florida, they showed the Rangers that they’re a team that does not mess around. NY got their wake up call and I expect them to win game 2. If they don’t, they’re in deep trouble. Also, Florida hasn’t lost back to back games yet in this postseason.

His entire role is being a momentum swinger. If he does what he does without taking a penalty, he's a big asset. Unfortunately he hasn't reached the level where he understands how to do that yet.
Two things: 1. You have to give the Panthers a lot of credit for many of the things that did not go well for them. 2. The Rangers were not that bad. They had one more high danger chance and higher expected goals for the game. A couple of breakaways and a couple of posts. A lot of things just did not go their way and they simply didn't put the puck in the net. Something about the approach and tactics needs to change at least a little. And they can't go for 15 minutes without a shot. Just dump the puck in and look for any shot sometimes. But since they also had their chances, they have to make sure to finish and get it done. Get that puck to bounce their way again.

Eck, mate, I love your videos. I agree with your points but to be fair we had our odd man rushes and chances but just weren't able to capitalize, which is fine. Igor was the star of that game, but I can believe that this team won't let him do heavy lifting for long. They saw what Florida can bring and now know how to adjust, if they need to at all. The Mikola hit on Chytil in the last five seconds of the game hasn't gotten enough attention. First off, why was he even on the ice at that point? You don't give garbage time to guys you're trying to protect from injury. Put the fourth line out there. Second, how is it possible that nobody responded? This is still the NHL. You don't give your opponent free cheap shots on anybody, least of all someone coming back from a concussion. This is hockey 101.

Obviously they could have done a lot better... BUT Ranger's were about an inch or two away from winning this game. people keep bringing up Rempe. Rempe is great, love the kid. But he is not the key to this puzzle. It's not that we need our one big guy to come out a run someone. What the team needs to acknowledge and accept is that EVERYONE in a Rangers kit has to finish their checks. Guys like Mika pull up as soon as the defenseman makes a breakout pass or the puck is moved along the boards. He has to finish the check. The Rangers give too much space and too much ground while the Panthers forecheck the shit out of them and smother the Rangers. that in itself has always been the model to beat us: grab them by the belt and don't let go. Rangers need to do the same. Look at Cuylle, that kid hits everyhting and everyone. Veasy does his best, even Kappo Kaako has been trying to chip guys and throw hits. For Game 2, everyone needs to rack up 3-5 hits and at least 4 blocked shots
Just need to figure out the panthers forecheck. Very strong defensively for the majority of the game. Despite being stuck in their own zone the majority of the game, Florida only put 1 past Igor. Laffy is not to blame for that 2nd goal, just bad luck on his part. The Rangers were not out of that game until the final 5 minutes. Chill out, have faith. They aren't done yet.

Disagree with playing Rempe. The games he did play in the Carolina series, he spent entire shifts hunting a big hit but was always a step slow to make one. I feel like the Panthers play a similar (fast) game to the Hurricanes and it would just be more of the same.
As a Panthers fan, any analysis at this point is premature. Take the win, but I'm expecting the Rangers to adjust. They are too good to just sit back and get swept.
The only thing more egregious than the hit by the unnecessary hit by Mikkola on Chytil is, the fact that not a single fucking Ranger addressed the situation. The Rangers, with their patty cake, pretty passing parade, cannot wear down the Cats’ defense if they don’t dump, pressure, and hit their back line. This was a pathetic performance by both the coaches and players. Fox is hurt, Gus sucks, play Ruhwedel and Jones. Vesey and Chytil are relatively useless at this point, play a 4th line comprised of Cuylle - Goodrow - Rempe. Insert Wheeler on the 1st line, drop Roslovic to the 3rd, and have Quick start G2; Shesty looks worn out.
Man, that wet fart... Speaks volumes of what the game last night was. That being said, you look at what Florida has done to other teams in the previous rounds and to be down only 1-0 isn't bad. Even if you believe the Panthers have more to their game; the fact still remains that the Rangers played far below what they are capable of. The question is whether or not New York will decide to show up.
I thought they had some really good areas but had such unlucky events happen. with the two sticks breaking on the shots to the puck bounces. I dont think the game was determined by the luck, as one of my old coaches said good teams win games great teams will find a way to win games which kind of means it shouldn't matter your luck its all about the teams effort. The range needs to play a full 60, not a good first 10 minutes in the second and one good scoring chance. This in mind its still the first game of the series and I think this is a good wake up call.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- the rangers have been outplayed for about 85% of the time in their last 6 or 7 games- they’ve just been bailed out by Igor most of the time. Reminds me of the king henrik days. Brutal to watch.
I've been saying that Drury and Dolan are idiots for abandoning the rebuild in favor of wasting time in the playoffs and torturing goalies (sucks that Igor acts like a baby too, I wanted Russians on what should be my team, but he and Panarin have not been it compared to the classy Buchnevich lol)

And yeah, it’s baffling not to have the Rempire State building in that game against that opponent. Who sits? Vesey? Wenner? Let Chytil have 3C? NOT Cuylle!! They need their hard hitters in the line up. they have more than enough talent to compensate for. Rempe’s lack there, but he doesn’t skate badly for a big guy and he knows to move in straight lines and how to forecheck and set up shop.. and of course to hit hard.

Again with this Rempe thing , I had the impression that you can do better than that. Rempe is going to put the Rangers only in trouble by risking penalties and suspension.. He's a mediocre hockey player , with poor puck skills...
His entire role is being a momentum swinger. If he does what he does without taking a penalty, he's a big asset. Unfortunately he hasn't reached the level where he understands how to do that yet.
Gotta split Trouba and Miller pair too... their +/- is horrendous when theyre together
Two things:
1. You have to give the Panthers a lot of credit for many of the things that did not go well for them.
2. The Rangers were not that bad. They had one more high danger chance and higher expected goals for the game. A couple of breakaways and a couple of posts. A lot of things just did not go their way and they simply didn't put the puck in the net. Something about the approach and tactics needs to change at least a little. And they can't go for 15 minutes without a shot. Just dump the puck in and look for any shot sometimes. But since they also had their chances, they have to make sure to finish and get it done. Get that puck to bounce their way again.
Taking Rempe out against one of the the most physical team is kinda unserious
they matched them in hits. they just didnt match in score chances. rempe will not fix this problem he will just get penalties in his 5 minutes a game played

Eck, mate, I love your videos. I agree with your points but to be fair we had our odd man rushes and chances but just weren't able to capitalize, which is fine. Igor was the star of that game, but I can believe that this team won't let him do heavy lifting for long. They saw what Florida can bring and now know how to adjust, if they need to at all. It was a little too silent for my liking in the Garden for Game 1, and I think next game will be much more energized. Thanks again for your videos and takes.

Florida’s forecheck is took good. My bruins also struggled to generate shots on goal against Florida. Their physicality seems to outweigh the other team’s talent. Most teams just dont have an answer to the system Paul Maurice has developed

The Mikola hit on Chytil in the last five seconds of the game hasn't gotten enough attention. First off, why was he even on the ice at that point? You don't give garbage time to guys you're trying to protect from injury. Put the fourth line out there. Second, how is it possible that nobody responded? This is still the NHL. You don't give your opponent free cheap shots on anybody, least of all someone coming back from a concussion. This is hockey 101.
I know it's off topic, but it was funny to me to see at 1:35 how #11 was basically just 🤷♂ after looking around and seeing everyone had already paired off, like "oh, well now what?"

Obviously they could have done a lot better... BUT Ranger's were about an inch or two away from winning this game. Ranger hit the post 2 or 3 times, which also do not reflect on the stat sheet as a shot. Like I said, Could have played better for sure but I don't feel as down on them as I did after they lost game 5 to Carolina. I think the Rangers are resiliant and can bring this one back. Always expected this to be a brutal 7 game series.
This feels a swep we’ve seen this before last year. Rangers can never have that kind of performance for the rest of the playoffs. They have to be ready to play as soon as that puck drops tomorrow. I expect rampe to be in the lineup tomorrow.

people keep bringing up Rempe. Rempe is great, love the kid. But he is not the key to this puzzle. It's not that we need our one big guy to come out a run someone. What the team needs to acknowledge and accept is that EVERYONE in a Rangers kit has to finish their checks. Guys like Mika pull up as soon as the defenseman makes a breakout pass or the puck is moved along the boards. He has to finish the check. The Rangers give too much space and too much ground while the Panthers forecheck the shit out of them and smother the Rangers. that in itself has always been the model to beat us: grab them by the belt and don't let go. Rangers need to do the same. Look at Cuylle, that kid hits everyhting and everyone. Veasy does his best, even Kappo Kaako has been trying to chip guys and throw hits. For Game 2, everyone needs to rack up 3-5 hits and at least 4 blocked shots
Just need to figure out the panthers forecheck. Very strong defensively for the majority of the game. Despite being stuck in their own zone the majority of the game, Florida only put 1 past Igor. Laffy is not to blame for that 2nd goal, just bad luck on his part. The Rangers were not out of that game until the final 5 minutes. Chill out, have faith. They aren't done yet.

Disagree with playing Rempe. The games he did play in the Carolina series, he spent entire shifts hunting a big hit but was always a step slow to make one. I feel like the Panthers play a similar (fast) game to the Hurricanes and it would just be more of the same.

As a Panthers fan, any analysis at this point is premature. Take the win, but I'm expecting the Rangers to adjust. They are too good to just sit back and get swept.
The only thing more egregious than the hit by the unnecessary hit by Mikkola on Chytil is, the fact that not a single fucking Ranger addressed the situation. The Rangers, with their patty cake, pretty passing parade, cannot wear down the Cats’ defense if they don’t dump, pressure, and hit their back line. This was a pathetic performance by both the coaches and players. Fox is hurt, Gus sucks, play Ruhwedel and Jones. Vesey and Chytil are relatively useless at this point, play a 4th line comprised of Cuylle - Goodrow - Rempe. Insert Wheeler on the 1st line, drop Roslovic to the 3rd, and have Quick start G2; Shesty looks worn out.

Even if you believe the Panthers have more to their game; the fact still remains that the Rangers played far below what they are capable of. The question is whether or not New York will decide to show up.
I thought they had some really good areas but had such unlucky events happen. with the two sticks breaking on the shots to the puck bounces. I dont think the game was determined by the luck, as one of my old coaches said good teams win games great teams will find a way to win games which kind of means it shouldn't matter your luck its all about the teams effort. The range needs to play a full 60, not a good first 10 minutes in the second and one good scoring chance. This in mind its still the first game of the series and I think this is a good wake up call.
