One of the most important Finnish songs.
Footage is from Jani Ojala's channel.
Text:
Finnish:
Oi Suomi, katso, Sinun päiväs koittaa
Yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois
Ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa
Kuin itse taivahan kansi sois
Yön vallat aamun valkeus jo voittaa
Sun päiväs koittaa, oi synnyinmaa
Oi nouse, Suomi, nosta korkealle
Pääs seppälöimä suurten muistojen
Oi nouse, Suomi, näytit maailmalle
Sä että karkoitit orjuuden
Ja ettet taipunut sä sorron alle
On aamus alkanut, synnyinmaa
English:
Finland, behold, thy daylight now is dawning
The threat of night has now been driven away
The skylark calls across the light of morning
The blue of heaven lets it have its way
And now the day the powers of night is scorning:
Thy daylight dawns, O Finland of ours!
Finland, arise, and raise towards the highest
Thy head now crowned with mighty memory
Finland, arise, for to the world thou criest
That thou hast thrown off thy slavery
Beneath oppression's yoke thou never liest
Thy morning's come, O Finland of ours!

The true national anthem of Finland.

Hello! This song is a masterpiece. I am a Hungarian and this song reminded me to the national songs of Hungary, it made me cry. Thank you Sibelius and finnish people that you gave this masterpiece to the world!
A master composer like Sibelius makes me always proud to be a Finn. Even if I am living in another country. Our people is just one of a kind, not better, not worse than anyone else, just unique.
I would say we are better than most of the world, there are no reason to be humble if it is not warranted.
I simply love and respect Jean Sibelius!

The English translation in this video is good, because it delivers the right idea, but it is not literal. I took a shot at translating the lyrics literally:
Oh, Finland, behold! Thy day shall come
The threat of night has now been banished
And the lark of the morning is singing in the brightness
As if the firmament itself was singing
The lightness of the morning shall defeat the powers of night
Thy day shall come, oh birthland!
Oh rise, Finland! Raise high
Thy head that has been wreathed with great memories
Oh rise, Finland! Thou showed to the world
That thou banished slavery
And that thou did not yield under oppression
Thy morning has begun, birthland!
This translation is spot on perfect!
Good to know! Thankx
Sound beautiful
Yep, that's good. I just made a comment saying that the English translation in the video is quite inaccurate.
Great job!

Juu. Siitä oli sarja televisiossa.
All my love for Finland, you are the pride of your great ancestors and bear the hope of the future of your great people.
As a swedish soldier, I am most happy to share so much history and culture with the proud daughters and sons of your beautiful country.
If only Sweden would have been nicer during the hundreds of years of oppression when our language almost went extinct
@@ristusnotta1653 Eh, what? There was no jurisdiction or attempt to exterminate finnish. Indeed, Karl XII knew some finnish, the bible was available in finnish. You got your first college under swedish rule, we built fortresses, died trying to fend of invading russians.
Like, what are you going on about? 20% of all existing swedes died in the great northern war against Russia! You think we had a good time? That we were rich? Dude, the russians tried to russify you, and they only had control over Finland for about a hundred years! Sure, being ruled by someone else isn't perfect, but you weren't serfs.
Like, you had it WAY better than russian peasents, poles, danish. Like, what are you even comparing to? A "coulda, woulda, shoulda"-made up fantasy world? Geez, I come from Norrland and our last damn famine was in the 1860s!
But yeah, sure. Compared to a fantasy it was bad. But in Estonia they say "the good old swedish times" and the same thing goes for Stralsund in Germany. "Unter die drei kronen sind est gut wohnen". But who cares about history, eh? Better to just hate the swedish part of your heritage.
Hope you atleast enjoyed my ancestors' deaths trying to fend of rulers from Russia who would have turned you into serfs or worse.
@@Akillesursinne 25 000 swedes died, 40 000 Finns died, that was a huge portion of our population and sweden didnt try to protect finnish people, they defended the swedes and made us join the war to fight for sweden and against our own people that were on russian side
@@ristusnotta1653 What war are you refering to? Made you join the war? Your people followed the same laws as our people did, of course you had to join in! My ancestors died, and my ancestrol home city was burnt!
You haven't given me a swedish edict that prohibited or tried to infringe on the finnish language, so do you just enjoy making up lies or are you going to admit dishonesty?
As for your numbers of casualties, a source would be nice. At Poltava, the most devistating defeat in that war, all regiments were of swedish origin. All. We Norrlanders had to pay sorely for that campaign. sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaget_vid_Poltava
That battle alone saw 6 000 swedes dead, and over more captured later. 200 000 Swedish lives were lost in that war. Most regiments stemmed from Sweden. So yeah, dream on, boy.
Have you even read the good bye speech of Georg Von Döbeln to the last finnish troops on Swedish soil in 1809? You are spitting on your ancestors, because they were weeping at the fact that they had to surrender their lands to russia, your ancestral enemy. And Döbeln was open about the fact that Finland was the greatest support Sweden had, and that they had all bled and died to protect it. So, nah dude, I've spent too many years at the Uppsala university to give into your shit.
Armies we sent, churches we built, Sveaborg, Kexholm, died in the thousands. Apparantly you wanted some more ice cream or pets on the head, but sorry, we were too busy either starving or defending ourselves from our neighbours.
Oh and I mean, let's not forget the finns that got tax-free resetlement in Sweden to start up farms here, from which their lineage still live here. But I mean, don't let facts get in the way of a good story.
Otack är världens lön.

So beautiful.
It really is. Hard to listen without tears as a 30 year old finnish guy who was raised to understand our christian roots, our history and trained to military reserve with my country fellows at the edge of adulthood. Koti, uskonto ja isänmaa (home, religion and fatherland) - old motto that was used by our ancestors who claimed this land for their offspring.

Ei kertaakaan ettei kyynel poskella vierisi. Kiitos, Jean Sibelius.

En muista milloin viimeksi kyynel on vierähtänyt.
Ja kuinka V. A. Koskenniemi, fasisti, kansallisromantikko, näin totuutta puhuvat säkeet tähän onkaan kirjoittanut,
se ei ole ihme. Sillä vain sellainen mies, jolla rankan isänmaallisuuden liekki palaa sisimmässään,
vain sellainen mies on voinut nämä sanat kirjoittaa.
Olen ikuisesti kiitollinen.

Is that an official translation?
Strangley quite inaccurate. But suppose it was made to fit the melody.
I would go and say that the translations are made by those who publishes the videos. As you might know, there is no way to translate Finnish, specially when it goes to our soul.
@@duhni4551 no, as example. [Kuin itse taivahan kansi sois] [The blue of the heaven lets it have its way]. Theres not even mention of "blue" in the finnish wording, and there is no mentioning of the "sound" in english translation. Even in my lame interperation, I would say a better translation would be [Kuin itse taivahan kansi sois] [As if the lid of the heaven would echo]
Indeed, the translation made me cringe.

Kuin aamu sarastaa. On uusi, synnyinmaa.
It's not a patriotic song. It's our country's national hymn.
Kova on kiire viedä Suomi kohti liittovaltiota.
päin vastoin . tällä hetkellä ollaan aika pahasti venäjän koiria tai putin uhkailullaan ainakin yrittää sitä . sanonut että on ollut virhe antaa suomelle itsenäisyys aikoinaan, joten isänmaallinen liike on näyttää naapurille nyrkkiä että ei kuunnella ja jäädä yksin nykypäivänä jälleen kerran odottamaan venäjän liikkeitä vaan tällä kertaa olemme saaneet tukea . mikä jäi toisessa maailmansodassa mm saamatta kun britit ja muut käänsi selkänsä vaikka apua pyydettiin .
No EU! No NATO! Yes Finnish Independence and People's Power!
You know this is not a bolshevik hymn, quite the opposite.
@@herptek its not a bad song as far as these types of things go. Anyway, the communists and their allies are the real patriots.
@@thefinnishbolshevik2404 Patriotism is hollow without nationalism, not much more than empty flagwaving.
Communism is fundamentally anti-nation. It is the most lowly thing ever to be inflicted on human civilization.
@@herptek communism is not anti-nation but multinational capitalism is. Capitalists care nothing for their homeland. Patriotism means loving your people and country. That is what communists do. We love national culture and value our language and history. We defend our economic independence from foreign corporations. Capitalists dont value any of that but support imperialist non-culture and American commercial trash. Capitalists and right-wingers are traitors to our country but they claim they are 'patriots'. They spread the lie that patriotism means racism and hating other nations. They claim that communists cannot be patriots because they want friendship between nations. But national hatred is only a tool the capitalists use to split workers and justify oppressing others.
@@thefinnishbolshevik2404 They profess the love of the people and country while defiling the nation and ruining the country. Peoples were forced to migrate in massive numbers and great multitudes of people were imprisioned, deported, purposefully starved to death or just executed either as a method of liquidating them as a class or simply because they were not trusted because of their nationality. Finns suffered especially badly from "anti-nationalist" purges.
You are opposing the nation in the guise of opposing capitalism or oppression. In the real world communism itself was more oppressive than anything that had preceded it or anything that has come to be after it.
Suomen kansaa he vastustivat vapaussodassa ja myöhemminkin heimosodissa. Eivätpä tainneet oikeistolaiset ("kapitalistit", nationalistit, konservatiivit tai muutkaan "fasistit") myöhemminkään sotiemme aikana yrittää vakuutella suomalaisia luopumaan omasta maastaan vaan ihan kommunismin nimissä sitä meiltä vaadittiin.
