"if we could lock it to a power state"
IDK maybe that is what the resistor you removed was for
You probably could put a different resistor resistance to lock it
@@lukemagdalin6169 Or a pot meter
Yeah, but they want to lock it to a higher power state than what the resistor allowed. So they would have to put in a different resistor. But I guess at that time the whole rig had become such a franken monster they did not want to disassemble, put the resistor, reassemble, test - only to find out it does not work. I think what Anthony meant was that he could lock it temporarily and test it and if it does not work try different power states and see which one works. Changing resistors for that would not be feasible.
What it does is just fooling the graphics card into thinking it doesn't use any power ... so there is no more power limit anymore.
@@TobiasLeininger no power limit is nooooot good at all i guess LUL. better use some lower resistors (or higher, too tired to think) to make it stable

@@benstockton2285 Yeah running for 8 hours That's a lot of money your going to give up at the end of the billing cycle.
Yes but who would use this sort of design for long hours
If you are running two 1000W power supplies and your voltage is drooping below 120V you are pulling too much power on a single circuit
Distribute the load across two different circuits
Also make sure your test bench isn't on the same circuit as something using a lot of wattage (ie those giant coolers)
If you are doing something as nuts as this you should have a dedicated circuit to your CPU PSU, a dedicated circuit to your GPU PSU, and a dedicated circuit for the coolers
You also want to be careful of hooking up a 1000W power supply to a really long low gauge extension cord, the longer the cord the higher the amps, it will over heat the cord, and cause voltage droop
Get at least a 12 gauge 3 wire and run it at just the right length
Having your voltage droop was probably what gave you guys so many OC issues, if you tried to push the clock after getting the electrical sorted you might have been able to push the system further
you.. you go up!
don't know how it is in canada, but in germany we have like the average 230V power, which is your 120V i guess, but we also get at least 1 connection of heavy current 3 phase 400V for ovens. building a small transformation panel to get that 3 phase 400V down to your average 120V you could pull crazy wattage from there. Or get a UPS which inputs the 3 phase power and got multiple 120V outputs.
Couldn't they just have travelled into a country where they output 230/240V? That should run a lot more stable, right?
@@richardlange134 I'm sure since they are in a commercial building and require enough power for the servers and computers that they have some sort of three phase box
I just assumed they only had 20A circuits
Any Joe schmoe with 20A circuits could distribute the load
If u use two circuits to power a single PC you will burn something for sure
"It might be the most expensive consumer graphics card EVER"
Reality is sometimes disappointing
The moment when you realise that the thing that bottlenecked the whole system is the power supply and the CPU cooler.
Only at LMG
Wait....OVERCLOCKING ROOM ?
filter the air inside the room to remove all the humidity...
That's actually an incredible idea.
as long as chiller is...well...closed
Then we really need to consider electrostatic charge building up, which in a server room can be a challenge when using air-conditioning
0% humidity is impossible if there is anything with moisture is would have to be more of an over clocking box that the computer goes in and the water chiller goes outside
You need at least 20ish (30-70) humidity for ESD safe operation of electronics. But I guess for a short time would be alright.
I think this is possible but. I mean we cannot be the first to think about this

Ya, it's their jerry-rigged way of doing things.
Yes, those wide, flat parts are current sense resistors. They are set to a specific resistance, therefore converting current into voltage, which can be fed into an error amplifier and ADC.
The ceramic parts with gold caps are fuses, likely PPTC resettable fuses. As they get hot, their resistance increases, thus reducing allowed current to flow through.

he was using it to reduce condensation on the board. if youve seen some do ln2 overclocking they aim a heat gun directly at the vrms of the mother board. maybe not vrms i forget. but they aim it at a portion of the mother board to keep it from condensating. you only want the cpu to be cool you want the rest of the board to stay warm. you just dont aim it at the cpu
They also use a blowtorch to heat the CPU if it gets too cold to boot.

Would it be better if you mounted the motherboard up-side-down? This way none of the condensation would drip down onto the motherboard.
I've never seen anyone do that.... That should work though tbh...
I was thinking the same. Surprised they didn't build a rig for that and to hold the fans >.
Moisture would still get on the board and even if it 100% worked, I honestly think that it would way too much hassle.
@Steve Jones It's done in a rig that's can be used for many different setups. They'd have to create a new rig for only that one thing that you typically do once or twice a year at most. The time and effort invested would be astronomically high compared to the incovenience of having to hold fans for a few minutes. Not to mention that while you're working on the custom rig, everything is inverted which in itself would be either weird or simply impractical. And then again, you have the fact that the method would not solve the problem with moisture.
Yeah I think the temps would eventually spread on the mobo and condensation would spread a little bit past the processor from being so cold
