Going to a Catholic school we sang this song every morning in class before school started during advent. It has become a staple in my advent life. I still listen and sing this everyday during advent 50 years later.

This is one of the best traditional Advent hymns, and unlike many of our hymns is Catholic in origin. I remember some years ago, hearing a Christmas version of this hymn with the chorus changed to Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel, is born to save thee, Israel!

We too are eager for Covid to be gone! This video is from last year (2020) when we couldn’t be in church. This year we got to sing it in person in our sanctuary !
