Fun fact: Hokkaido is actually the largest prefecture in Japan, contrary to what Drew said at 2:25. The only thing I know that happens there is that Japanese fishers get in trouble with Russians due to how close some Russian islands are to the country.
I think I've heard something about a few of those islands being disputed territory between Russia and Japan.
