  • When a wealthy young man asked Jesus what he needed to do to enter God’s kingdom, Christ gave a surprising response. Today, R.C. Sproul continues his series in the gospel of Luke with a sermon on the depth of our sin and our need for God’s grace.
This sermon was preached by R.C. Sproul at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, Fla. Hear more from his series in the gospel of Luke: • The Gospel of Luke: Se...

From my understanding of reading about the Rich Young ruler is he asked Jesus the author of what it is to be righteous and good what must I do that was certainly the wrong thing for the Rich Young ruler to ask Jesus what must I do there's nothing I can do maybe the Rich Young ruler could do something but there's nothing I can do.
For one thing I'm not a rich person I'm a disabled and I don't ask Jesus what must I do in order to actuate things in my life that deal with eternal life.

I believe that the rich young ruler was saved and the reason he walked away sorrowful was that he had to give his wealth away. Because his wealth was like a God to him ie the love of money is the root of all evil. The reason I say the rich young ruler was saved is this, Jesus is God and God does not change he is the unchangeable God & Gods love does not change. Therefore when God loves someone he loved them before the foundation of the world. So in marks narrative of this passage Mark 10:21 we read, Then Jesus beholding him loved him KJV. Jesus loved the young man & has loved him from all eternity just as he loves all his children and went to Calvary’s tree and die for their sins. The elect of God.

" what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (Mark 10:17, NASB)
Jesus said he lacked 1 thing. The man did not correct the thing he lacked. Logically one can only conclude since he lacked 1 thing, he did NOT enter the kingdom. Immediately after that Jesus said the way is narrow, many will perish

In the account of the RYR, Jesus is pointing out the man's sinfulness and need of a Savior. There is only ONE condition to receive eternal life according to the Word of God. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). In contrast, there are multiple conditions for becoming a disciple or follower of Christ. Self-denial, fruitfulness, water baptism, hating your family, taking up your cross daily, loving others, etc. Whereas eternal life is a FREE GIFT, discipleship involves WORKS. Those who persevere in discipleship will be greatly rewarded in heaven, while those believers who fail to walk in discipleship will be ashamed at Christ's coming (1 John 2:28). Whereas eternal life is received once at the very moment a person places their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the discipleship decision must be made repeatedly over one's lifetime. If you mix up salvation and discipleship, the result will be a false gospel of works which is an accursed message according to Gal. 1:6-9. czcams.com/video/EbOO2zntyks/video.html
