🤔 Do you think Team Visma | Lease a Bike will show this level of dominance all season?
Let us know your thoughts 👇
So long as they manage to be one step ahead of controls cycling will be boring as hell.
UAE are also winning their races and will win any race pogi goes to.. now classic starts and van der poel is back..also Remco and Pedersen(perhaps also skelmose) who does better here. Looking forward to wout also who is a joker here.
who would not eagerly submit to *a dominatrix wearing an aero helmet?*
@@soldersucker1 You DON'T KNOW what you are talking about !!!!!
@@statskontrollant time will tell in the meantime you need a seeing eye dog because you are a blinded fan boy
My opinion is either you're going to have special aero kit for TT and it's going to look futuristic and sometimes weird. Or you just knock all that on the head and have TT on regular road bikes as part of stage races. This middle ground where the teams try and innovate but aren't allowed to make things which don't fit an arbitrary idea of style doesn't seem tenable
This makes a lot of sense. Or you could just arbitrarily demand that in future, no TT helmets should look like an actual bellend.
@@jakecraddock2575 if my actual bell end looked like TT helmet I'd probably go see a doctor 😄
100% on board with these innovations.
I think the Visma helmet looks super cool and practical. I was already wondering for many years, why they wouldn't grow the visor like they did. Love the innovation and do want it to continue. So long it is within the rules and protects the riders as expected PLEASE CONTINUE INNOVATING!
When I worked for a helmet brand we played around with a huge visor! It's all ok until it rained and it became rather steamed up!
I loved Vingegaard's response to everyone freaking out over it. It's engineered to be fast, and it's more comfortable than other aero helmets, so it's good.
@@JonCannings I'm surprised noone ever considered a pin lock design like they use on arai motorbike helmets, they hardly ever steam up even in awful weather. It's basically just a plastic version of double glazing
These helmets are also safer cos they’re a big improvement on the rider’s range of vision. As for rain, this team doesn’t do anything like this without finding a solution for something like that.
No.... they are not cool.....wasp like looking....we just want good riders... not fashion riders.
Jonas just gained another strong helper in Jorgenson for the tour.
Is he riding the tour tho?
@@Infiltator2 yep
@@theeverlastingspiral wow. The guy has been a top 10 rider when he was at Movistar. He had no help at his previous team. At Visma they are giving him help. Smh
@@theeverlastingspiral did he have help? Nope. So please don’t just assume. Smh
Is it a joke that a team is better than yours? Do something about it
2:16 Lloydy starting trouble with me 😂 🥊
Cycling is having a supply/demand/affordability problem. Seems to me it needs affordable innovation for the normal rider. I might go out this week and buy a Giro helmet just to show support for industry but that should not be mistaken as support that jumbo l-a-b hat.
I think the helmet is looking really fast, and I'm ok with the design
The mass amounts of people trying to make fun of the TT helmet was way more annoying than any helmet could ever look.
John Candy 80’s movie Spaceballs 😊
Nope
Those helmets are annoying
Are you sure you saw that helmet? Because in my estimation it is literally impossible for anything to be more annoying...
Tell me you bought one without telling me that you bought one.
Spot on. It became everyone's major story. The media feeding frenzy in cycling is unlike any I've seen before. They take any little thing and blow it up.
The Visma lid may look ugly to us but my 10yo self would have loved it. At that age I saw LeMond winning the tour 89 and the next day everyone at school wanted aero bars on their bike, may it be road bike or BMX.
That's where I'm coming from ❤
@@JonCanningsJon it LOOKS a whole lot different (as in pathetic 😁)..but I get ya point 👍
Bring on the innovation. I love seeing where the tech can go .
Congratulations Matteo jorgeson :)) woohoo #USA!!
Hearing how he funded so much himself is really interesting
And - along with saying that everything is different (for which I understand ‘better’) at Visma Lease-A-Bike - isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of Movistar.
@@JonCanningsHe won’t have to do that anymore.
@@johnwestwell2241i mean there are just 3 teams which habe the financial base to compete in that terms and that are Visma, UAE and Ineos, then maybe Quickstep and Bora. But else?
Jonathan Milan!🔥 Yeah, Philipsen, you can’t shove him out of his lane/into the barriers! 😂
@daniellloyd1 Re: Giro helmets: I don't hate them if they are limited to TT use only. Most cyclists don't ride TTs and don't have TT bikes, so it's always going to be a niche look, built for the purpose; that's not going to put anyone off from the sport. My bigger question is whether there is a size/shape that puts the helmet into the same category as a faring for the frame. Just because it's attached to your head shouldn't necessarily make it race-legal. So the issue is what design limits helmets should have, not whether all non-traditional-looking aero helmets should be banned.
These ones are within and very close to the current limits.
glad to see ellen VD back big motor
Great wrap up Dan. Thank you for what you do 👊
Thanks for watching!
Was Dan’s hair a reference to the Visma helmet? 😉
Once again really good show :)
Thanks Dan and crew...put me down as a no on the Skullmet ..
Dan, imagine if they banned the Soloist because it didn't look like a round tube traditional bike. I love the helmet, the idea of it is just amazing and it is safer. Finally a helmet with visibility in the TT position
Well said dude 👍
Dan do you think your new hairstyle was inspired by the steam Visma helmets ?
For me the TT helmets are not needed. I want to see who is the strongest rider, not who has the best designers with carbon modelling.
That boat sailed long ago.
On the aero helmet issue, surely one question has to be "should fairings on riders be treated the same as fairings on bikes?" UCI stops bike manufacturers from adding certain fairings/wings to their bikes, but we all know the biggest aerodynamic drag comes from the rider, so where do we draw the line? Socks? Helmets? Things stuffed up the jersey to fill the gap between cockpit and rider? We need a consistent approach from UCI that draws this line for both bike and rider enhancements
exactly that!
Im so excited for this season. I think it will top even last years. Pogi, Jonas looking dominant. Hopefully remco to get even stronger.
It is certainly looking to be a good one so far!
Is there a way to get discovery+ as an American? I don’t want to pay $150 for max
@@thanosduckplease Not that we know of
Need to know what brand that wheel was, to avoid like the plague. Bearings coming out during a race, what?
Rules should be set for at least 5 years - Innovation within the rules is a good thing.
When you mentioned the winner and runner-up in that Vuelta Extremaduras time trial, I think you should have mentioned 3rd placed 18 yo Stina Kagevi as well, finishing 8th overall. It will be interesting following her development.
When it becomes a fairing and not a helmet, there's clearly an issue, but...
I do appreciate pushing the envelope
If I was the UCI with the ban hammer, I'd go big and change the rules for time trials to have the same equipment rules as regular road racing. TT is so weird, these new helmets kind of fit right in
That’s probably a good idea, can’t see sponsors being on board with though 🙈🙈🙈
In my oppinion it should be required to use the same equipment (bike, helmet, clothing) on all stages of a stage race. Then have dedicated TT races where all tech is allowed.
I dunno, every little kid I know thinks the Visma aero helmet is amazing
A young kid told me it was “so gas” I said, what?
The weird shark-head helmets are fine with me, as long as they don't let Cav wear one in the sprint _...who knows what damage he could to the other riders with that weapon._ (assuming he could get to the finish on time, that is)
For TT, I think anything goes. It is not the image of cycling. Rarely do I see anybody on a TT bike at the park.
If uci already approved a particular helmet, going back on their decision on that helmet is very unfair. They can amend their regulations going forward, just not backward. At least it will give the companies some time to tweak their designs, instead of needing to abandon the entire thing.
Couldn't tell which rider was witch with those helmets. You could see lemonds face in his aero helmet.
Welcome to "Helmetgate". 😂 Really nice to see our American riders performance this weekend. Well deserved for Matteo!
You should ask new or non-traditional potential cycling fans what they think about these unique TT helmets. Most of us long time cycling fans might be too stuck in the past, and too traditional? New fans could have a fresh perspective. I - as an old timer - find the various TT helmet approaches interesting, and I think their success or failure should be based on both performance & safety. The fashion element of them is fully subjective. I don’t really need to wear one myself, but if the new unusual “look” gets more people interested in watching cycling I think it’s a good thing.
Agree, the new TT helmets do not look good at all and that should be considered
I like time trials having specialist innovations that may be banned from use on road races. I also find funny helmets funny, which is enjoyable.
Plus I don't think the UCI should make time trials more boring
I am all in for innovation but ... BUT! there is a lot of technicalities that can lead to the UCI limit the borders of edge of innovation for TT helmets or just helmets in general... That particularly helmet has been on giro for snow bike speed descent... UCI perhaps allowed for a reason but then the open doors now lead to ban the specialized helmet sock... Hiro is in peril.
I love the new helmet for the reason that it made me laugh. I hope this will set a new trend for more whacky helmets. I hope we can see more helmets similar to speed skiing helmets on the peloton. Heck, UCI should not limit TT helmet to TT events only.
Is it true @gcnracing that the new Giro helmet was inspired by Dan's haircut?
Who is going to win Milan -san remo
You’re 100% right about aesthetics and cycling. Yes to innovation but an equally big YES to appealing style. Cycling is NOT a cool looking sport.
I like the innovation
UIC shudnt be able to retroactively ban products taht were designed in the framework of their rules
I think that the giro lidl would give the riders more visibility than a enclosed helmet
Roglic is 34 years old. Thats the same age as Peter Sagan and Alex Paton. This is a young mans sport.
😮
@@JonCannings Was that too harsh? 🙂
@@billcodey1430it's interesting, a decade or so ago we talked about being around 32yrs old, a rider would be in their peak. Now it's more like 22!
@@JonCannings you are right Jon, 32 or 33 used to be the peak of your athletic performance!
I wonder how that's happened...@@JonCannings
The problem with the UCI constantly stepping in and making adjustments to rules and parameters is that it unfairly affects teams with lower budgets. By that I mean, for example, that when they set the parameters for aero helmets- big budget teams like Jumbo LAB have the cash and resources to push every parameter to the max that is allowable within the UCI's framework of rules in order to design and build the 'fastest' helmet possible. This shape and technology will take a couple seasons to trickle down to the smaller teams with smaller budgets, as they have other lower hanging fruit to prioritize first. If the UCI then steps in and changes these parameters in an attempt to limit the innovation or even simply for aesthetic reasons, teams like Jumbo LAB will just once again swiftly design a new helmet within the new framework; because, again, they have the cash and resources to do so. I guess my point is that the UCI should come up with some hard and fast rules for these things, and then not be so swift to alter them. Set the framework, let the teams develop and innovate within this framework, and let the innovation that is being done by the top teams have time to reach the lower ranks so that the playing field can self-level.
Has the UCI repealed the law stopping riders from discarding clothing and food wrappers etc? On Stage 8 of P-N, Rob Hatch remarked how McNulty had to hand his rain jacket to the rider towing him up the mountain. with 50 km to go it was clear to see Remco throw his jacket on the ground by a switchback bend and, as the camera panned out, there was no team car or spectator there. Later we saw him do the same with his arm warmers. Still no sign of a fine form or his team.
Let's put it this way: if someone turns up at a UK 'local 10’, they'd better win it! #girohelmet
Great show, as always. Pronunciation on Olivia Baril is a bit off, you don't pronounce the L. So say it like BAREE.
Thank you, noted. Dan
My first thought when I saw the new helmet on Visma, was that is was a design to far, and that the UCI should step in. To level the playing field rather than let the deep pocket teams abuse their monetary advantage, I thought the UCI should require the standard road helmets a team uses to be the helmets for all races. No special TT helmets (are those helmets a risk to the neck in the case of a fall?). Let it be a race between people, not expensive (and weird looking) technology not available to everyone.
I think they should have recumbent bikes if they want more fairings
UCI may ban the infamous Giro helmet but not before Dan grows his own with that hair!
Innovation please
I say keep the TT helmets coming! I can’t wait to see what’s next
Unless the race is a one and done time trial then just use regular bikes with regular kits to do time trials.
Wonder how heavy the helmet is? They laughed at Greg for his and the tri bars but he won a TDF by 8 seconds. Goooo Visma!!!
TT helmets….. when you say the UCI should step in to stop things getting too extreme, what would too extreme look like exactly?
I think the UCI ought to form a committee to regulate Daniel Lloyd’s hair. The late 1980’s called, Dan… Vanilla Ice wants his wig back.
i think its a bit ridiculous but i get it. coming from an enduro mtb racer this is just crazy but i get the aesthetic criticism.
More innovation and more speed please. Crazy tech and faster racing is what makes things more exciting to watch and gives us more to talk about. GCN would have loads more content if the UCI stopped being so tight with the rules. Cycling is stuck in the past a bit and not in a good way.
Still no replacement for GCN in Australia. Feeling really abandoned.
The helmets look cool
Giro and Rudy Project have gotten their money’s worth on all the publicity surrounding the helmet.
UCI as usual is a dollar short and a day late!
Next step: Everybody shall ride the same bikemodel.....?????
the aesthetic of the sport has always been preserved and quite rightly so: uci has done this for decades - you only have to look at our offroad downhill and no skin-tight clothing being allowed to be used. for me it's a Ban and tightening up of the rules. keep those lids for the Tri folk along with those extreme tri tt bikes
If you dislike the Visma helmets so much, why did you style your hair to resemble them ?
Oh, quit with the disclaimers...it never ends..speak your piece.
Star Wars inspired
Good to hear you apologized in the end after all the harsh and unfair comments you guys have made over those helmets last week
For TT go crazy with innovation, but keep conservative rules for normal road race.
I think the helmet looks nice
Why in the world you have the bllood criminal Binden on your advertisement ?
Dan this one's for you and any one else that goes on Twitter/X to speak their mind: If you're gonna say something on there because that's truly how you feel, keep it that way. Don't go apologizing because people disagree. Otherwise, stay off of Twitter. Hate this whole "oh crap I have to retract my statement because it's gonna make corp look bad."
While people are free to have their opinion about esthetics, innovation should always be top priority. In time, what is “in-style” usually ends up on the wrong side of history. It’s a shame that the voice of personal opinions influenced the UCI to change direction.
It's a mystery
Can't see Primož Roglič doing much now that he's with a different team. He's a wheel surfer, and the Bora aren't half as strong as Visma.
If we didn’t allow innovation we’d still be riding with fixed gears, cow bars, pedal clips and those tatty old head protectors!
I am oll for inovation.
Hilarious that your haircut is a 100% imitation of the VL helmet!!!
100% behind helmets being assessed based on their aesthetics as long as Dan's haircut is also assessed on the same criteria 🙂
Visma Lease A Bike, *aero helmet included.* It's the Lease they can do.
Very good!
Keep them talking about the helmet while we hit the drugs. Nice.
What bike does Visma lease really? Can't a pro team afford to own some bikes?
Roglic is done at the tour, I think; Bora aren't a great team and he's not a young man. He'll be fighting for 3rd at best.
Whats happened to your hair Dan?????? Are you shaping it into an aero helmet!!!!
Ok, when do we start talking salary cap? What are we waiting for?
Dan, Don't apologise because you have a opinion.
Not sure that helmet is safe on all the ways your head can go in a crash, and it adds weenieness to our sport. Aero helmets should only be used for the hour record.
The irony of Dan criticising the Visma Giro time trial helmet when his hair is styled in exactly the same way... 🙂
Shouldn’t that be the doping machine?
If giro helmet knocks 30seconds off my club 10 pB, I’m all in I’m definitely getting it 👌😁💥💥💥🚴
Asking for rules because the 40+ year old doesn't think it's cool...
When did this channel become an: 'old fart complains channel'? (insert 'old man yells at cloud' meme from the simpsons)
You know that most people in cycling aren't 21, right?
helmets were mandated for safety, not as a way to add a fairing to the racer's head.
Personally I don't see much difference to helmets of other teams. Yes, it's design is interesting but how is it different to the EF helmet. Perhaps UCI rules should be given a rolling 3 year allowance so if they do want to ban helmets that otherwise meet their guidelines that would have to come into force in 2027 thereby giving companies 3 years to conduct r&d to meet the new guidelines.
Jumbo juice!
There is No jumbo this year
@@larshansen4557Replaced with Visma juice!
Visma is the strongest team. Race Paris-Nice showed how strong they are. Roglič is great example. No Visma, you are an average rider.
Unless there's a clear safety issue, the UCI should keep its collective yap shut.
Aero helmets are fine but it's gone too far for a person on a bike riding a pedal style bike IMO. Some constraints are needed
