You just witnessed the greatest vocalist alive. He’s from Kazakhstan, sings in 15 different languages, plays multiple musical instruments and is currently working on his PhD in music. He’s been training since the age of 5, has a 6-8 octave range (depending on who you ask) has absolute pitch, and is an amazingly humble man. He sings every genre (even raps) He has many recent performances, but I would highly recommend "Sinful Passion “ 2018 and then "Stranger" 2021, "Ikanaide" 2021, "Adagio" 2017, "Daybreak" at Bastau 2017. Each performance will leave you stunned.

The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 27 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He is about to start his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 12 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. When I first heard Dimash 5 years ago, I couldn't believe my ears either. I was tempted to look behind my laptop like a little kid to see if there was another singer hiding there.🤣 From that day on, not a day goes by that I don't hear Dimash.
This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight.

The competition was open in 2013 to well-known professional singers from the music industry worldwide (theoretically). In reality, only 2 or 3 non-Chinese contestants (Koreans) attended the show.
Foreign participants have been banned since 2016. (The ban was originally intended only for Koreans, but unofficially applied to all foreigners. The Chinese government wanted to ban Korean influence, even though the show was invented in Korea).
In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time (politics). The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned Chinese hydroglyphs: Di - achievement Ma - precious stone Shi - dream, wish.
This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to CZcams ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won).

He's also very humble and that, as much as his amazing talent, created one of the most loyal and passionate fanbases (he calls his fans "dears"). His mother is a world-class opera singer, and his father is also a well-known singer. He was raised by his grandparents, which is customary in his home country of Kazakhstan. He appears in front of crowds of hundreds of thousands of people and is known to give the proceeds to charity. He is a very humble and shy man. He stands at 6 ft. 3 1/2" tall and weighs 200 pounds. This was a very enjoyable reaction. The song "S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse)" is originally from a French-Canadian musical called 'Starmania' from the 1970s and is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform. Dimash is from Kazakhstan. He appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's "I Am A Singer" competition. "I Am A Singer" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the show by points each week.
At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition.
This was the very first episode of the competition, and Dimash had to go first because he was considered the weakest, given that he was completely unknown to the audience. After this performance, he became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Dimash won the first two episodes! He also won the 6th for his rendition of "Adagio," a song made famous by Lara Fabian.
First place overall went to the famous Chinese Sandy. Sandy's first album came out before Dimash was even born. Dimash took second place overall; however, he lost by a very narrow margin. He lost a lot of points for his performance of "Uptown Funk." Although Dimash did not win the show, he immediately became a beloved star in China.
As part of the contest, all contestants/performers are required to perform one original song they have composed. Dimash sang "Unforgettable Day," a song he wrote when he was still in his teens - it's a love song. He sang in both the original Kazakh and in Chinese even though he did not speak Chinese at the time and had to have a translator with him throughout the competition.
Here is the order of Dimash's performances for The Singer 2017. The contest lasts 14 weeks, but Dimash has only 13 performances because he had already made it into the semi-finals by week 11.

First a little background: Dimash is from Kazakhstan, many of his songs he writes himself, he is the best vocalist on the planet (and beyond), he sings in 12 languages, plays 8 instruments, trains DAILY since he was 5, he is the most humble and modest guy I’ve ever seen, his vocal range covers 7 octaves. Back in 2017 he sang a D8 - yes, you heard right - that is the note “D” from the 8th octave, which is off the piano keyboard and the highest note ever sung by a human, therefore many his “dears” (this is how he calls his fans) suspect he is an alien. That you will hear when you get to “Unforgettable Day”, but it is IMPORTANT you watch the Gakku concert version. If you’re not “Dimashified” yet, you will be … you will be - that is fine, it happened to all of us. I think it is not important in which order you decide to watch his performances, because every single one of them is unique. Shot for the channel "Melting Pot" and it's very appropriate. DImash's music unites people from all over the world across language-, religious- and cultural barriers. At a concert he can sing one song in italian, then one in kazakh, english, french, russian and chinese and the crowd sing along to all of them. Also his versatility is amazing, not restiricted by styles or genres, his music is just music, often a mix of lots of influences.

Quick run down. He is currently 27 yo. He has been in formal voice training and musical education for 22 yrs! Yup. Since he was 5 and it was discovered he has perfect pitch. He sings 7 octaves in 15 languages. He plays 8 instruments. He has a worldwide fanbase of over 10 million. Right before Covid hit he was on a sold out world tour. When he played in New York he had fans from over 68 countries travel to see him and 76 countries when he played in London. He is extremely kind, humble and a wonderful human being. You have barely even begun to scratch the surface of Dimash's talent and ability. He has continued to hone his skills and to fine-tune and perfect his already unbelievable abilities even more. There does not seem to be a limit to what he can achieve vocally. I am excited to follow his journey. Dimash will possibly go down in history as the greatest vocal talent known to man. I cannot think of anyone, past or present, capable of doing what Dimash is capable of. I am still waiting on someone to name a single individual even remotely close to Dimash's mastery.

Dimash also recently released "Ikanaide,'' performed during the 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival live stream, which is absolutely incredible. He sings in nearly flawless Japanese.
Avoid any performance from "The World's Best." The show in L.A. was utterly disgraceful. The production team edited and cut all of Dimash's performances down to 2 minutes and cut out his Kazakh song for no reason.

Jag är nog "bara" ett fan, ingen Dear. Den största delen av mitt hjärta klappar för SPARKS! De något äldre gentlemännen Ron o Russell Mael och Dimash konkurrerar inte, fullständigt olika.
MEN om Russell hade varit lika förtjust i att sjunga som 4-5-åring, och fortsatt sjunga, med samma utbildning som Dimash... I sin ungdom hade Russell en ENASTÅENDE helt naturlig falsett och/eller bara förmågan att utan ansträngning nå VÄLDIGT högt. Tony Vinsconti, producent m m, sa "He is an all natural counter tenor". Då talade han om en 28-åring.
Den 28-åringen är idag 73, och tillsammans med storebror Ron och deras kompband äntligen kunnat börja turnén som legat i malpåse sen 2020, då de släppte sitt 25e album (inte medräknat samlingar) och jorden stängdes av 😷. Kommer till Stockholm 29/4, Annexet vid Globen. 30/4 Köpenhamn, Koncerthuset.
Russell kan fortfarande sjunga de gamla låtarna i original tonart, men nu är det falsetto som gäller, och självklart är rösten inte lika klar längre. Han har inte tagit en lektion, hade han det så hade han med största sannolikhet haft en bättre kvalitet fortfarande.
Men, vad f-n! De är SPARKS! Lika unika och underbara nu som -75 när jag hörde plattan 'Propaganda' för första gången!
De är ännu mindre bundna till EN genre än Dimash, finns det ingen sån genre som de vill att en sång ska låta, jaha, spelar roll? Vi uppfinner en ny!
De har faktiskt en likhet med Dimash; en ödmjukhet, respekt och kärlek till alla (nästan... De skulle inte dedikera hela inkomsten från ett pusselspel till Putin, om man så säger. Däremot till nödhjälp för Ukraina.).

Regarding sustaining one note with vibrato in a live performance Dimash sustained that last mixed head and chest note for about 20 seconds which is enviable and I believe he can sustain a mixed high note for 30 seconds. But that palls in insignificance
when I about to tell you that the great 60s and 70s vocalist Johnny Mathis sets the WORLD RECORD with FULL VIBRATO for sustaining one note in a live performance circa 1960s.

Dimash is always ready with "thank you" for any audience he might sing for. "Che che" is Mandarin, I think, for thank you.
He only knew a few Mandarin words back then in 2017. Just enough to travel to this competition, "I Am A Singer". He was the only contestant who wasn't a professional Chinese singer with an established fan base. I think he was the first ever foreigner on the show.
