Apparently, and this may not be true (found it on a reddit a while ago, memory saved the fact for some reason), the script said that they were supposed to look irritated by her singing, but their reactions were as close as they could get without full-on cracking a smile at this little girl wailing out Mariah carrey in the back seat 😂
she wasn't quite kidnapped yet in this scene (those guys in front work for her dad) but (spoiler alert) the kidnapping happens basically immediately after this scene. would have been pretty damn funny if she did this in front of her kidnappers though hahaha~
Naaaah! That's too American sitcomy humour. Wouldn't have worked tbh. Maybe one of them could have silently mouthed a word or did a head gesture (ever so slightly) to show they like and know the song though!!
i honestly can't think of a more endearing and wholesome scene from a major studio film that captured the unfiltered joy someone (especially a child) feels when their jam comes on (especially in the car). take the camera away and i imagine you'd see an identical performance, doesn't seem like she's acting at all here. tl;dr - scenes like this that capture real-life joy so accurately are few and far between but yes, they definitely give us life~
The original version is called "Genius of Love" by the Tom Tom Club. Thats the sample for Mariahs version. Latto sampled Mariahs sample and thats called "Big Energy" The Latto version is R-rated lol 😂
Its crazy I didn’t bother listening to this song when I watched Rush Hour but when I watched Free Guy when it came out years later I started listening to it nonstop. It is really a great song! It is even crazy when Fantasy fits well with Free Guy, and now everytime I hear this song or I listen to it, Free Guy comes in mind when Fantasy has been there even before Free Guy. Well glad I did watched Free Guy because it is one of the movies I am attracted to.
My fave part of the movie....I will watch the entire movie and really enjoy seeing this young girl sing so passionately🦋✨🐣 Oh when were that young, and never gave a damn❤️🌟🦋✨🐣
This was probably the first time I remember hearing mariah. 2003/2004 when I was a very small child but man this movie was on repeat as well as a few others but Mariah has always been a household name wether people like it or not.
I remember, we would WAIT for rush hour to replay on tv. And then no matter how many times we re watched, we always waited for this adorable scene! ❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
I was in 2nd grade in 1995 when the album Daydream was released and this song was one of the best singles. Until now, I still get grooving whenever I listen to this song. Never gets old. Mariah's music is eternal.
She is so adorable; Soo-Young's the original Tiktoker, and it's not even cringly. It looks like she probably didn't even know they were filming in that moment. It's the best scenes in all of the Rush Hour movies...!
Oh wow this brings me back. I can remember watching this movie like it was yesterday. Love it! Wish Jackie and Chris could stay young forever and keep making sequels.
hahaha yea that feels spot on, but it's the boss' daughter so probably not worth the trouble, best just endure the pain. meanwhile, she was the earliest crush on a fictional character that I can remember (having been 12 when rush hour came out).
It's not a question guys, hence the absence of a question mark. Hello. And you thought you were being Mr Big Smartpants. Lmao. He's saying, "What a movie for her to be amazing in". You see now? Don't be mean . Mean people suck. Don't suck. Stay sucker free .
This scene was my favorite part of the movie growing up lol I think it still is! I became such a fan of this song specifically from watching this movie lol.

How did y'all get through the Christmas season without hearing, "all I want for Christmas " ?🙄😂
I’m getting the idea that they’re supposed to be annoyed, but I can’t help but think that they are holding back their joy and smiles.
Before Free Guy, there's Rush Hour, but this song is from Mariah Carey (Queen of Christmas) called Fantasy (samples Genius of Love by Tom Tom's Club).

A masterclass in making a character relatable and making the audience care about that character who only appears on screen for mere minutes. 👏
Not really a masterclass. It's very simple.
