My biggest pet peeve: people should not leave the church immediately after communion! One recent Sunday literally HALF of the once full church was empty immediately following communion! I wanted to cry at the disrespect shown to God.

It’s good practice to read the day’s Readings in advance of Mass. It helps you to enter more deeply into the Scriptures when they are then proclaimed during the Liturgy of the Word.

I appreciate the comment about the sign of peace being a distraction at a moment when our attention should be on receive the body of Christ.
Absolutely true. I remember in the late 1960s when the Church started the sign of peace. I was only 9 or 10 years old and felt even then it made little sense. The instructions were to turn only to the person to your right and briefly shake their hand. Now I see even at daily mass many people waiving to others all over the pews. The Lamb of God prayer is already being said and they are still waiving to people all over the church. It completely takes the attention away from Our Lord. The Novus Ordo Mass is not as full of graces as the Traditional Latin Mass. If you don't believe me, visit a Latin Mass and you will see and feel the difference. Also "Extraordinary" Ministers were to be utilized only if it would be excessively too long for priests alone to distribute the Eucharist. Now you can see sometimes 7 or 8 ministers even when they are totally not needed. Communion in the hand is not a good idea either as it makes it too easy for bad recipients to steal the host. I once witnessed this happen and someone from the congregation was told by the priest to chase him outside the church to recover the host. Many believe Communion in the hand is a sacrilege, started in Europe out of disobedience. Why take the chance? Always receive Our Lord on the tongue and only from the consecrated hands of a Priest.
It is very disrespectful to attend mass late and leave just after receiving communion.

@@mariekatherine5238 You ask why??? Skipping Holy Mass is a grievous sin. Watching Mass online without being physically incapable of attending is akin to not attending at all. You either believe or not and part of believing is attending Mass on Sunday and following the traditions incorporated in the Mass. if you don’t believe, don’t attend and don’t be a burden to those that do believe. Quite frankly it’s simple courtesy. Unfortunately, that seems lost on you and the majority of people.
At any mass, the worshippers should be dressed respectfully, as befitting the reverence of our creator.
Jesus is more concerned with the state of our soul than how we look!!!

I started going to a less crowded and more reverent service, (the bi-lingual Mass) and found it to be much better. Even our Pastor announced at the end of Mass that he especially liked celebrating this Mass because “no one leaves after Communion”…Amen!

i am a born again Christian but when I visited my family I went to church and attended mass with them. I can't control my tears when I saw people started leaving while the choir was still singing Give thanks with a grateful heart. To me the mass was not completely finished yet but people were in a hurry to go home.

This should really go viral because so many people are not truly following the proper conduct in attending church. If we come really to pray , why don’t we just give our best, it’s not hard at all . Our Lady of The Roses at Bayside Queens said Communion in the Hand is a sacrilege and Our Lord is very disappointed at the lack of respect so many have at Mass. I believe Our Lady at Akita Japan also said Communion in the hand was wrong too.

And the same thing before Mass….our pastor even put up a sign asking people to be respectful and quiet for those who want to pray and to be mindful of the awesome sacrament we were going to be receiving. It goes largely ignored. 🤷♀️🤦🏼♀️

Thank you for this good advice and reminders. However, a couple of things troubles me. I have muscular dystrophy so find kneeling almost impossible. My balance is also compromised so standing is also difficult. When I genuflect I cannot kneel down very far as I would almost certainly fall and be unable to get up by myself. I do what I can though, bending my head down for example, and always try to show respect to the Lord and hope that he understands what is in my heart.
The Lord understands your difficulty. I cannot kneel or genuflect. I hold my bow and when needed I sit close to the edge of the seat instead of kneeling. I am respectfully in all ways and I'm sure my Lord understands ❤✌ Bless you!

This is why you need to sit up front. They have ministers to help you room for wheelchairs. It is not mandatory to stand up and down or to kneel.. I had back surgery, so I sat on the edge of the pew.

Unfortunately, Church is not a Shaheen or a bar where you just want to behave as you wish. If you feel that the Church authorities have put rules to wear properly and in decent way, it is better to stay away from the Church. Unfortunately, the Church is not a place to show a miniskirt. It is a place of praise and worship. Let us stop being naive and respect the Lord.
To me the "sign of peace" is a great interruption to the build up of awe and reverence just as the expectation of receiving our Lord is at it's peak. Then everyone gets distracted waving peace signs and moving around, etc. I never understand why it isn't at some other point - any other point in the Mass. Not when our attention should be on the Lord's presence in our midst.

My parents always told us to NEVER turn around to ‘peace be with you’ behind you. They said that it was happening after the consecration and therefore we’d be turning our back to Jesus.

After 1962 our reverence has continued on a downhill roll.
People continually talk when they should be respectful of those in church are praying.
This past Sunday it was First Communion; parents and family super noisy, eating, drinking coffee and had their trendy mugs on hand. We moved twice to be away from the fray. We felt like we were in a Protestant or Pentecostal church. If there were a Latin mass close by we would be there!

You are so blessed to have a Latin Mass near you. There is a church near the city that celebrates the Latin Mass, but it's too far from us. Our church has some Masses on special feast days where the Mass parts are chanted in the original Latin instead of some of the horrible contemporary settings.
Vatican II in 1965 was the very beginning of the progressive movement taking Christ from the Mass.

I’m deaf so sometimes the church doesn’t have mass booklet to use, I use my cell phone to get to EWTN and read the mass reading for the day during the homily.
I too am deaf and I'm lost if there is no written word. I have seen others following the Mass on their phones.
I feel lost if there is no written word but I would never take out my cell phone. This can be done at home before or after Holy Mass.
Until now I have never thought about a person who is deaf following the Holy Mass on their phone.This is a reminder to me about being judgemental .Thankyou for raising this issue.I guess regarding the issue of modesty ,while I agree not everyone seems to understand some clothes are not appropriate for Mass; again this is a judgement.If a person comes to Mass that's a blessing regardless of how they are dressed.My focus should be on the Altar on the Holy Word and on what Jesus is saying to me.

By the way, I'm sure you realize that El Shaddai, which means "mountain", has a secondary meaning: "breast". In using that name with God, you not only employ a name which shows might and strength, but also the maternal, nurturing side of God. Think about it.

Priest and people should not be racing or rushing through the communal prayers, like the I BELIEVE, the LORD’S PRAYER, the prayer after Lamb of GOD, HAIL MARY PRAYER or any other. Lets take our time a Pray the Prayer not just say lt like its a race to get out of HOLY MASS.

In our small parish, we are so blessed with very dedicated priests. They also take seriously the spiritual health of their parishioners.
Unlike in the big church that I mentioned earlier, the priest rushed everything, barely breathing in between sentences. I felt cheated but asked the Holy Spirit to bless the church goers and the priests assigned in that parish. There may be some explanation to the rush.
@@rajoschannel4338 hello my friend! If you can find a small parish, with very warm yet traditional priests, abiding by the laws of God, you are blessed! Some priests rush through everything because they think that's what the parishioners want. And in most cases it is. By making the parishioners happy they will keep going to church. However, that's not the answer and not good practice. Everyone just goes through the motions! I think it's very sad from both sides! There are those of us, like myself, who go early and stay a few extra minutes for the Lord. He has invited me to his supper and showered me with graces, he deserves all my time and respect.

Mother and kids 13, 14 years old using the phone playing video games and mom other things . Then sitting. Then she told them go to take the Communion. Is so sad.
Also people arriving too late during the Gospel or Consagration, then they take the Communion.
Cel phones ringing and people answering.
It's painful, I suffer about that.
Jesus said, "take this all of you and eat it." We as Catholics keep looking for ways to exclude others from consuming the eucharist. We should be doing the opposite.
