You are not fit to even visit Brasil, jesus !
Not too bright
Check out the international driver's license
Great video, Ollie! It was really brave of you to drive from BH to RIo. Congratssss!! 😁
I don't know how I did it tbh.. i was feeling so tired towards the end haha
A lot of people use Waze in Brazil to know when there are speed cameras. Helpful content, Ollie! :-)
Ahh good shout! I was shocked with the amount of cameras 🤣
CURITIBA is full of them, got 2 tickets in one day
Tourists can rent in Brasil, all you need is ;
Current foreign drivers license ( BR license is NOT required)
Passport
Credit card - foreign cards are ok
Good idea to let all your credit card companies that you will be using it IN BRASIL
If you have a perm visa, you can show that instead of the passport
IF you are there over 180 days, don't keep your passport on you while driving- you can figure out WHY !
Very unusual for you to be stopped by the police unless you did something illegal. If they do, all they usually want to see is your DL and maybe the rental agreement or your car documents
I've driven the coastal local roads and sometimes they have police checkpoints checking ID's and plates. Most of the time they are looking for illegal plates or stolen cars and motorcycles.
Cops here are the nicest people you ever want to meet. If I am coming back the same direction, I usually stop and get some cold sodas and give them to those guys stuck in the middle of nowhere in the heat. They appreciate it
I use some US based car search sites like Orbitz, Trip Advisor etc but you can use the specific company website, some are in english. I like LOCALIZA because they have more locations all over Brasil. Make sure you get the CDW, full coverage option, it's cheap enouugh
Yes the gas station attendants put the gas in your car
FYI - cops will come up behind you with their flashing lights on, they have them on all the time when on the road. That does not mean they want you to stop, best to pull over to the right lane and let them pass.
NO matter how fast you are going in the left lane, many will come up on your bumper and ride it till you pull over and let them pass, is very reckless and dangerous. Get out of their way
I believe radar detectors are illegal in Brasil but if you can hide one, it will come in handy for all the radar cameras and hidding cops with handheld radar guns
IF you get caught speeding, they will mail you the ticket. If it's a rental car, they have your info from the rental company and will send the ticket there and they will put the fine on your credit card.
In Brasil, TICKETS stay with the CAR, NOT the DRIVER.
ONE thing to check BEFORE buying a car here, many cars have thousands of fines attached to their cars and must be paid before you can register it even if it was from the old owner, so check with DETRAN or a dispachante first.
I've seen cars for sale that owed more tickets than the car was worth !
Just like in the US, if you see traffic showing down for no obvious reason, it's prob because there is someone with a radar gun up ahead.
Great info. Never know when I will be in Brazil lol.
Thank you

Super video, Ollie!
Thanks Monika!
Grazie mille, thanks for everything
My pleasure!
Good info
Thanks :)
Very brave Ollie
Thanks Mum. xx
Helpful video! Just have a one more question:
Can I rent a car and return it after hours? Like is there a key-drop location at most rental car facilities in brazil?
Great video! We found it was ALOT cheaper to rent in city vs at the airport of course. Did you notice a price difference at all with Automatic vs Manual cars? Brazil seems to have a lot more stick vs automatic cars (Probably for the steep streets), we had to go to 3 different rentals to find an automatic. Also when renting a car , would you normally get the gas or alcohol option in gas stations? That option doesn't exist in the US so we would ask for half of each.
I only got an auto because I wasn't confident in a manual hahaha autos are def a lot more expensive, but it's worth it if you don't have the confidence to drive on the opposite side of the road haha
Alcohol or gas depends of the price, usually you will see a percentage sign at the gas station that means the cost ratio between alcohol and gas, if alcohol is 70% or less of gas price, go with alcohol, otherwise is gas.
But if you're going to deliver the car, put alcohol because it's cheaper and the only check if the tank is full.
bom video
Informative
How was driving in rio? Did you feel comfortable driving in rio?
This was helpful. Do you plan on staying in Brazil for long?
Hey Victoria! I'll be here until julish, i hope to return :)
How can I rent a Mercedes or BMW coupe in Rio de Janeiro?
Will they allow you to cross a border on rental
Loved this video. But I had hoped to see you driving on the “wrong” side of the road! I’m visiting Brazil next month. I won’t drive since I don’t usually drive here in the USA.
Oh i wish!!! I didn't have anything to stick my phone into the screen :( so yeah, that's the sad part about the video haha... Enjoy Brazil
Really automatic vehicles 🚗 sucks on hill telling you by experience Jejeje
Hahah! true that!
Yes I rented a car twice there😎
How was it?
Was pretty easy, except I forgot my passport at my fiance house, so had to go get it, but after that it wasn't bad, was easy
