    I don't now how they managed, but the reason the Soviets liked the big cannons was the fact they would pulvirize fighters in a single hit. However, from what I understand, even for the Soviets, was not easy, given that they would get extremily close. One of the biggest complaints they had, was the low-rate of fire. (At least for the P-39 and P-63).

    • @roadsweeper1
      @roadsweeper1 Před 2 lety +9

      you didnt want a high rate of fire, from what i believe, they didnt carry many rounds, like, 30 or 40

    • @LorathanF
      @LorathanF Před 2 lety +16

      Well Yak9T 37mm and Yak9K 45mm required Fighter escorts since they didnt do well as fighters with that armament and was made for ground attack . Also there was small issue that when you fired 37mm or 45mm cannon it will kill your engine and / or stall your plane since the recoil was massive on such light airplane.

    • @vczs
      @vczs Před 2 lety +3

      It's low velocity, rate of fire was somewhat similar to russian 37mm. Those lazy shells are hard to land on fighters

    • @ShadeAKAhayate
      @ShadeAKAhayate Před 2 lety +27

      @@LorathanF That is a myth. The cannon worked just fine with the motor, unless there was some mechanic's fault involved. Also, no, it didn't stall the plane -- the recoil was not that massive (you don't have to trust me, the energies are available online). Sh-37 and NS-37 were mostly employed against air targets, especially during bomber intercepts. And no, Yaks were excellent dogfighters, ones of the best USSR had (and the best until La-5FN arrival).

    • @LorathanF
      @LorathanF Před 2 lety +2

      @@ShadeAKAhayate It was prohibited to fire the cannon below certain airspeeds and yes the 37mm and 45mm cannons recoil made the engine leak and cease if fired carelesly, this is more of an soviet build quality issue than cannon itself.
      Yaks were excelent fighters and adding 37/45mm cannon into them had hit on the performance vs regular 20mm armed one.

It can follow you effortlessly through a vertical climb without stalling, and it can fly at damn near 0 knots so it will never overshoot you. The only way to beat it is to get an extremely fast plane, preferably a jet, and boom and zoom. Mind, it CAN be beaten, but it will give you a hard time no matter what you are flying.

    Love all your videos, have you ever done a video in which you mimic Erich Hartmann German ww2 super Ace....he had a particular set of rules he followed...See, Decide, Attack, Coffee Break...in which he basically would only attack if he was very confident he could attack and survive. He was known to do a lot of hit and run tactics. Avoided tangling dogfights at all costs.
    According to him, most of his kills never even knew he was there, also he would not shoot until, "The enemy plane filled his windscreen". He was never shot down, but he did have to crash land 14 times due to the amount of damage his plane would sustain when he would destroy enemy planes.
    Anyway, was just curious if you had ever studied his tactics and if so, if you might recreate them in a video?
    Happy Hunting
    He would also brag

    General tip for ye 37 mil. I only fire single shots, look where they are going and then again shoot a single round. One hit is enough for fost planes.

    How do you have so many planes at once? In fast mission seems you can only have 4 per plane group, 2 groups per team. Are you in a campaign mission or something?

    Is it just me or did GS forget to lower his flaps before his final landing ? That would explain the endless bouncing all over the landing strip...

    I have been toying with purchasing IL-2 GBs for some time, but the thing that always puts me off is how boom and zoom aircraft like the 109 just turn, kind of a no go for me.
