The college Clay went to in NH is Dartmouth. In the book, it’s way darker than the film is. What made Downey Jr’s performance so compelling was that this was his reality, as far as his drug use. It was that raw and intense.
His comeback is one of the best ever! Such an inspiration for anyone needing to reinvent themselves
The 80's doesn't exist without Andrew McCarthy....PERIOD❣️
McCarthy or Anthony Michael Hall?
@@KisstheReviews I love Anthony Michael Hall, he's an 80's teen icon but Andrew McCarthy is special...he represents his generation of actors so well. I pretty much love everything I've seen him in. He reminds of Tom Hanks in that way...you can not not like him❣️ The 1st movie I saw him in was "The Beniker Gang" & I've loved him ever since.
I can’t disagree with that!
I can' t believe that my parents allowed me to watch this movie at the age of eleven. To this day this is one of the hardest hitting movies I have ever watched.
For real! I feel the same way. This film makes me feel gross.
Corey's absolute refusal to learn Andrew McCarthy's actual name gets me every single time
He knows what he did…I’ll leave it at that.
@@KisstheReviews what, be the blandest most whitebread person in any of his movies???
😂😂😂
I agree Downey really shines in this. This movie also pushed some serious boundaries back in 1987. The scene where Clay rescues Julian from the party in Palm Springs and what he was doing there, garnered some audible gasps from the ladies sitting behind me in the theatre back then. Subject matter like this wasn’t really covered like this:)
Yeah, I imagine this was a lot back in 87…hell, it was a lot when we watched it. Lol
Julian was never going to get clean. If I was Clay, I would have told him to get lost. He not only stole his girlfriend but his mom’s jewelry.
Totally agree!!
A 80’s train wreck that you can’t take your eyes off of. Love watching your reviews!!
A perfect way to describe this film! Thank you very much!! We appreciate you tuning in!
Loved the comment about how Andrew McCarthy had to “Weekend at Bernie’s” Downey Jr around!
Actually makes me think about dear old Aunt Edna in Vacation. They left her on the front porch!
Poor Aunt Edna…and don’t forget they Mitt Romney’d the dog too. 😂😂
This is one of my favorite movies
It’s a good one! Thank you for commenting!!
I haven't see this movie since the early 90's. This was one of the best and everyone was really good. Robert was already addiction before this movie.
Ahh, thank you for helping to clear that up! We knew it was around there but didn’t want to dwell. Everyone was amazing!
Haha this movie is full of don't do thats. I prefer the book over the film. That being said RDJ is great and that drug montage scene is hard too watch. The soundtrack rocks!
100% agree with all of this!!
After watching this review again you guys are hilarius I just now noticed "Hey Corey is that a Golden Girls puzzle picture behind you? If it is where did you get it because not only do I love the show but I'm now getting into working on puzzles.
Thank you!! It is a puzzle! I got it at Newberry Comics or one of those kind of stores. I have a love/hate relationship with them. 😂
I have not seen this movie, but y’all made me want to watch it. PSA’s and Don’t Do That’s are always my favorite.
Thank you so much!! You’re safety in this crazy world is our top priority. 😬
In the book, Julien's character is irredeemable. The book is super dark
That’s what I’ve heard. Unbelievable they could have made him much worse. Lol
ALL of th characters are pretty irredeemable in the book though.
In the book Clay didn't care about Julian, and was an admitted spectator to his demise, a pure misanthrope.
That playing out in the movie would’ve been better, imo.
In the book Clay didn't really care about anybody.
@@KisstheReviews Yeah, in the book Clay not only doesn’t care about Julian using drugs, Clay is a drunken coke head himself as well as bisexual and doesn’t really care about Blair either. Clay abandons Julian halfway through the book while Julian’s getting forced by his pimp to have sex with a bunch of wealthy middle aged men at a private party in the Hollywood Hills. Julian doesn’t die in Less than Zero, he dies later in 2010’s Imperial Bedrooms which catches up with the Less than Zero characters now in their 40s when Clay himself helps Rip who Julian now owes even more money to set Julian up to be kidnapped by a Mexican gang who tortures him to death on video) Less than Zero is actually part of the same universe as American Psycho and Rules of Attraction (1987) reoccurring characters appear in all the books and Patrick Bateman is introduced in the series before American Psycho because his younger brother Sean is a senior at the same private arts college Clay is a freshman at, Patrick even narrates his own chapter in that book when his father is dying. Bret Easton Ellis (the author) explained that the reason the film turned Clay into a moral character and basically turned into a after-school-special is because of the strong anti-drug “just say no” campaigns of the late 80s to where he said studios weren’t willing to produce a film about teens using drugs unless it was a anti-drug message attached because the MPAA would shut it down.
I loved this movie when it cane out in the 80’s and I agree it needed more detail. Robert Downey Jr. was fantastic in this!!!
So good…so dark.
Fun facts:
Billy the 💪 is Nurse Buck (Kill Bill #1) and Uncle Jack (Breaking Bad). Don't worry. Uma and Mr. White took care of him.
Damn!! Good lookin out, Bride and Heisenberg.
This movie was released in 1987. The book came out in 1985.
These 80's names kill me. Blaire? Julien?
I think they all did great, but RD is the only one who could carry a move without any version of an ensemble cast.
Totally agree!! Good call with the dates. Thank you for commenting!
But Julian EXPLAINED himself😭😭they were both in a dark lonely place😭😭😭have some empathy😭😭
😂 Yes he did…and? 😂 😂
@@KisstheReviews’all cold 🥶 😂 but Julian wasn’t being malicious so not forging him is just cruel
Sleeping with his gf was cruel. Not forgiving him is accountability. 😂😂I may still care about them but forgiveness is not on the table…at least right away. This was his first trip home since graduating. IMO
Lol!
Love the review🥰️
❤️🙏
Great Review!!
Thank you very much! Appreciate you commenting
Yall gotta do American psycho ...book was written by the same guy that wrote this book below zero before turning it into a movie...the book american psycho was actually banned in a lot of places back in the 80s because of the disturbing content
Absolutely! Love American Psycho. It’s now on the list!! I def want to read the book too. I wish we could review books on here but Armando thinks reading is for nerds. 😢

This is my first time watching you fellas. Cory may be my frustration twin.
That’s amazing! Thank you so much. We are like the twins from the Shining. 😂
Have y’all done Requiem for a Dream?
Not yet…thank God. Double dildos is too much for me.
i saw this movie on HBO in 1988 as a 10yr old & i LOVED it.. But it was two things i took away from Watching this Movie As a Black Kid from The projects #1 i was Shocked That Even Mega-Rich White Folks gotta Deal with That 1 Annoying Crackhead That Just won't sit the Fuc Down Somewhere. & #2 James Spader Has Go to Be an Asshole in Real life cause he plays Them too Well in Movies.
Your observations as a young black man from the hood were astute AF! Yes, a lot of got that dude in the family…the crack head not asshole James Spader.
watch Needle Park with Pacino.
👍
Great movie, even greater soundtrack. However, I have one small complaint, as a metalhead first and a movie enthusiast second, Slayer's remake of In A Gadda Da Vida. Trimming an 18 minute song down to 3 minutes. All the while you have the greatest drummer of all time, Dave Lombardo behind the kit!!!! You're not gonna let him flex his muscles and let him try to tackle that drum solo????? I don't expect all 18 minutes of the song to be in the movie, but c'mon. On the album would have been nice. OK, I'm done now.
I’m glad we could give you that moment of catharsis. 😂😂 Taking anything and trimming it into 1/6ths is bound to be disappointing for everyone.
I'''ve been looking for this movie but I can't find it. Someone please let me know. Thanks
Thanks for the comment. You can find it streaming on Hulu, HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video
@@KisstheReviews It won't let me rent it on Prime without Cinemax sub
@@curtisskarma6831 I hate when it does that. I typically sign up for the free trial and then cancel after I watch 😂

Way tooo politically correct. Go out on a ledge, ya know…like the movie did.
😂 We’ve never been accused of that. Where would you have “gone out on a ledge”? What would you have said?
Your public announcements are very disruptive and not that funny. Just review the movie please.
Absolutely! Anything else we can change for you?
Jesus Christ
No, just Uncle Cory…but close. 😂
enjoyed the review. little irritating the constant references to them being white people, i dont think that is relevant in any way
Thanks…? 😂
