Before Sunrise (1995) - one of the best film scenes ever

- "There's wind that blows in from the north
And it says that loving takes this course
Come here, come here
No I'm not impossible to touch
I have never wanted you so much
Come here, come here
Have I never laid down by your side
Baby, let's forget about this pride
Come here, come here
Well I'm in no hurry
Don't have to run away this time
I know you're timid.
But it's gonna be all right this time..."
I am Polish and "Before Sunrise" (and "Before Sunset" afterwards) were aired on one of the TV channels a few weeks ago. Both the films are excellent; the acting skills of Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke blossom during the long shots taken in Vienna & Paris.
This one special scene though is even better than the rest of the film. It is absolutely exquisite. Those eyes, this music ("Come Here" by Kath Bloom), this amazing atmosphere of a requited feeling and finally finding a real soulmate... it is certainly one of the best scenes that have ever been created; Richard Linklater and the actors succeeded in making something that the vast majority of even high-budget films lack. The world is huge, I am just 19, now moving to Warsaw to study there. I don't know what will happen in my life, I don't know where will its paths lead me. I don't know whether I'll ever meet a person I could socialise with as much as this pair did, I don't know if any adventure of such enormous beauty will ever happen to me...
What I know is that I will hold this scene and film in my memory all throughout my life. Best regards to you, whoever you are!

I just watched Before Sunrise again. Many things have happened in my life in the meantime, more often sad than happy, and yet this beautiful gem still lives vividly within me, promising that maybe, just maybe, it all makes sense and something beautiful and pure awaits ahead. That nothing is over yet... Is it you, Alexandra? In my heart I beg, take me with you. I don't care where you're going...

this is the type of movie where you never ever ever want it to end
Yet everything comes to an end. And every ending is a new beginning.
The end of a Time is Another Begun, Farewell stranger from the past.
So true 💖
Well it hasn't ended, nine years later they made Before Sunset then another nine years they made After Before Midnight and theres talk of another. Same actors, same lives etc.
Exactly
This moment feels so intimate. Definitely more intimate than any sex scene or passionate kiss. The mixture of shyness, fear of being seen and judged, the hidden feelings, the restrained attraction... all of this makes the scene so unique.
Well said
WOW...I do really appreciate YOUR way of understanding of this scene!!!
I don´t know if you are male...or female...
but I really agree with you at THIS POINT!!!
Sometimes it is enough just to use a very simple word...or just act in a very simple way, to impress the person next to you!!! (THAT movie shoves it best! :) )
(Would you answer me...?)
Why u bullying me
@@Lickmacake WHAT???
Are you o.k?
Agree
We all wish for a moment like this.
Vegan Scorpio girl I love your name bc I'm a Scorpio sun and vegan for life!
I wish I could fall in love somewhere I lost and can remember it for the rest of my life.
Yes.
I hope you all live smth like that once♥️♥️
Some of us live for it!
What it's great about this scene it's their shyness and purity, they are already in love with each other but they don't dare yet to say it at loud, because they are both shy and sensitive, but it's the song they are playing who says it all...
Song?

Just finished watching this movie and this scene was probably one of the most awkward/realistic scenes I've ever seen, at the same I found myself giggling too
Definitely I felt that too lol
same!!
the best kind of acting isn’t just screaming or shouting or crying, it’s being able to act so natural and this to me is a perfect piece of acting that didn’t need words.
The body language told a whole story.
To all the old souls who came to watch this epic in 2020 .. 🎩🌹
Heck yea
:)
And new souls too
2021 here
2023 here
he looks at her, she looks away, she looks at him and he looks away ... feeling her eyes on him ... her feeling his eyes on him ... both of them thinking the same things
absolutely beautiful....
Yes
I just watched this movie, for the first time. And now it's in my top-10 for all time. Julie is magic.
For me it instantly grabbed the no.1 spot, though in my opinion the sequels weren’t as good as the first one.
I think it just captures that excitement of meeting someone new and the nervousness (really...s/he likes me? Is this happening?) is mixed in. Funny how out of a whole great movie with lots of funny dialogue, it is the silent part that shows so much.
Finally made the move on a girl I've been obsessed with for over a month. The tough part is that I know she is moving away soon and was I afraid to start something if it had to end so soon. But then I thought of this movie and how stupid I'd have to be to not give it a try. Even if it's just for a day, or a week, it's still worth it. This scene basically captures what we were like every time we met up.
Mesmerised by your comment btw..Carpe Diem is wat u did..
We're in love now and together in her home country. That choice changed my life.
that's beautiful, thanks so much for sharing
Really?
@@kevtb874 update us buddy 😅
Watched this for the first time last night. It didn't feel like a movie to me, it was just so magical. Thank you to Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, and also Kim Krizan, and everybody else involved for this work of art. And of coure, thank you to Vienna. :)
I think I'm one of the lucky people who has lived alongside these films. I watched Before Sunrise on release, at the theatre, at a similar age and 'era' as these guys... wanting the same thing, longing for this kind of connection, loving the silly romanticism of it all... and now I'm the jaded realist version of Before Midnight Celine and Jessie. Watching this now makes me feel like I'm glancing back at myself in the mid-nineties and feeling this again. I love it.
That's made me very nostalgic!
Absolutely, me too. I was around their age when this came out and have experienced this kind of connection myself. Now, a divorced mom of two and trying hard not to be disillusioned but not sure I’ll ever experience that kind of connection again. If I go on a date, I immediately know when it’s not there. There are a lot of ‘surface’ people out there, that’s not what I’m looking for.
i watched them in the time/years that they came out also. i was only about 16 or 17 when me and friends first watched 'before sunrise' on a late night hang out, and we adored it for months or even years afterwards. i cannot even remember how i stumbled upon 'before midnight' actually (cos i knew nothing of the planned trilogy all along, but i had seen 'before sunset' in the cinema)... i was living a traveling life and not watching a lot of anything, or hearing about film releases, so however it came to me, i am sure it was meant to be. while i love the first film the most, i have enjoyed them all in their own way, of course the acting & chemistry between julie and ethan, and each part they play in the whole story. it was an awesome idea to make three films that are the true years apart- not just in film world but in real time. ingenious.
I don't think I stopped smiling at any point throughout the movie except at the end. In the end I was smiling even more while being teary eyed.
Agree.. this is one of the most romantic moments ever depicted in a film..in its most simple innocent form.
in four years, 2 decades, i will come back to this and cry myself to sleep
This scene could not be directed or replicated, it's so natural & ethereal! Not a single word spoken in the listening booth, but they both created an epic love story there.
Absolutely amazing & my favorite movie scene of all time.
It captures the carefree innocence & tenderness of young love. The tension between the two is palpable, but stealing a glance of each other's gaze till the other looks away is what we all live for. The uncontrollable shy smile on both of their faces just seals it. 😍
They are doing that on purpose. Like they are playing a game. You are making the scene way more than it is lol

Maybe I am... but it was shot by the director that way naturally so that their expressions come out the way it was meant to be. That's mark of a great team of writer actors & director.
Wow
I totally agree this is one of the best movie scenes ever. The song, the scenario, the perfect acting...it totally captures those awkward moments before a couple who are falling in love have even kissed.
Actually, I should correct myself: This is one of the best MOVIES ever.
I've literally watched more than 750 movies across all the genres in Hollywood. Believe me this is one of the best cinematic shot I've ever seen.
I watched this movie for the first time at 1 in the morning after a breakup and this scene really gave me the closure I needed, her and I never shared a moment like this even though I so badly wanted one. This movie portrays how love at first sight is real and how human love is something that can’t be forced
True love is never forced, I hope that you find the love you deserve.
Same, I agree a hundred %
"I like to feel his eyes on me when I look away"
It's the most beautiful scene in a romantic movie ever because I believe it.
Acting in this scene is so touching. The intimate tension between them is so real that even a viewer can feel the warmth of it.
A glance is worth a thousand words!
Beautiful movie. And the sequel is also worth watching. The chemistry between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy is just outstanding. Acting at it's best!
when i first saw this scene in the cinema i could hardly watch them not being able to look at each other. it was such a small space and you were right in there with them...brillant-and 1 great love story
I feel so grateful to have had the experience of watching this movie for the first time yesterday...
I wanna go back..
A beautiful movie and a beautiful scene. I saw this movie when it first came out in 95 when I was 20 and experienced something quite similar in Greece soon after, with a lovely girl who reminded me a lot of Julie Delpy. Then I grew older 20 yrs later I met another wonderful lady who loved this movie, but she lived across the oceans, but we always bonded over the trilogy and especially this first movie and this particular scene for some reason. Then covid hit and she passed away. I still return to this scene. Gives one hope. A pure scene of love. What a great movie. What a great director.
Cannot express how much this movie means to me. I almost fall in love again everytime i watch this. One of the greatest movie's ever capture on film. Ethan is a legend and Julie is just so amazing in both the movies.
I almost melt each time she says "ME TOO"
The wonders of falling in love hey :-)
I had a same scene in my life with the boy i love, we were both shy, awkward but try to show our feelings, everything was perfect, feeling love and feeling loved, well life is not like the movies of course, it only lasted for a couple of months until he said he didn't have the same feelings lol i want to cry now i wish life could be like movies...
there were times in both movies where i have to look away because it feels like i'm intruding. they were really great in these movies.
Thank you for posting this. Sheer magic and the music fits so well. xx
I agree, this is one of the best film scenes ever...
no words are spoken, yet they say some much!
the inevitable kiss is floating between them
thanks for posting
They are both great actors..hard to believe they are not in love in real life
this movie makes me cry everytime i see it :'(
yes.. this scene and this movie mean a hell of a lot to me, too.. thank you for posting them and for being such a nice soul, i wish you all the best, i know you'll get it, too..
this is one of my favorite film scenes of all time! i'm so glad you posted this. and i agree with the person before me: i absolutely love what you wrote, so incredibly sincere, i got goosebumps! best regards from america
I lived my own version of this. 18 years and 7 months ago. I have never loved another man more and as much as I sometimes wish I could, I can't ever settle for less.
Well, I may have to watch this film (and films) again. So many great scenes coming up on my CZcams feed and this is one of them. Beautifully done. The whole trilogy.
Forget about this pride, go and chase and follow your heart
this is pure and naive, which i can watch it over and over again. I love this scence so much!
My heart, the purity, so wholesome.
Such a beautiful movie! Masterpiece for sure :)
Even though its a movie...this scene feels so much realistic... The true gaze of love...
That's the idea. It's not a movie yiu just are watching an interaction where 2 people hit it off.
This is so lovely. I haven't seen "Before Sunrise" yet, but I have seen "Before Sunset". Beautiful movie. I love Vienna so much and very soon I'll find out what it's like to love Paris.. Thank you for putting this on CZcams. Hope you're having wonderful time wherever you are, dear Cziczeko!
OMG!!! thank you so fricken much!!!
the song i loved it... and i never heard it again!!!
but now i'll pu it on my ipod!!!! and the lyrics!!!
yeah the best scene... hahaha so classic.... the looks the give to each other!!!
thank you!!!!
yo the tension in this scene AAAAHHH
I just love what you wrote, and I'm pretty sure that some day you will meet a very special person. Thans for sharing, your words are lovely...
Saw this In 1996 and spent that year rewatching this movie, perfect cinema.
Yes, Before Sunset. It takes place in Paris, 9 years after their first meeting. A very good movie which was nominated for an Oscar in 2005.
Been wanting to watch this movie for years and I finished it. Don’t think I have ever felt so charmed throughout a whole movie, and making the most out of one night. It truly felt in a way a fantasy to many romantics out there, but the night instills that fear of knowing they will have to bid aideu at one point. One of the best romances I’ve seen.
my god he is sooo sooo cute and in love here😍😍
Such a magic moment to share the little space with someone
One looking away when the other looks at them… this whole scene is so beautifully romantic
the camera angle is really brilliant i love it in this shot
2021? New year and still in love with this.
I really had a crush on this movie🌼
Still magic....
Such a sweet scene!
beautiful film and love this beautiful human interaction... these 2 fimls r one of my favourites, with such great songs
One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen
i know.. i felt the same way.
they were always these little private moments between them when the tension was just so high. in sunset, there were scenes when I was thinking "just kiss her already" because i just couldn't stand the tension.
they're probably one of the best on screen, star-crossed couple ever..
i hope you are fine 14 years later
I haven't seen the movie but I am in love with the dialogue "I like to feel his eyes on me,when I look away" .Exactly the same situation I have faced, the only difference is in this story it is face-face and mine is "Digital".R8 now don't know y I m giggling.I could feel it,when he was staring at me and exactly same reaction (Sort of) mine was....I watched this video, after he uploaded it...Thank u for this video
There's this guy I see almost everyday on the public bus on my way back home from college. We both have noticed each other but we have never spoken. So it had been many days since I saw him, but few days ago, he jumped into the same bus that I was in. As he entered, we happened to see each other and out of nowhere, I smiled at him because I was so happy to see him again. It would have been weird if he didn't smile back, but he did. We both smiled at each other and he stood right infront of me the entire time but still we couldn't look at each other after that. That reminded me of this scene. I am not sure if I should reach him or not. He seems like a good person.
Did you do it?
Well...did you?
The description is beautiful.
My fav movie, i've watched over ten times.

Thanks for the name of the song. I already downloaded. All that stupid romantic movies with great celebrities kissin each other at the end can´t punch the heart like this simple movie did.
