The Bernese Mountain Dog is a breed that is built for doing hard work. It is big, powerful, and strikingly beautiful with its tri-color coat. Most dogs will have a white chest and striping from their forehead to their muzzle, accompanied by white paws, brown forelegs, and a dark body for their coat. Many of them have a spot of brown above their eyes that makes it look they have eyebrows.
This dog can be fiercely protective of its property and people, but it is also a sweet animal that is highly affectionate and wants lots of snuggles. As with most large dogs, the Bernese Mountain Dog thinks that it can fit on your lap at any given time. You will find them wanting to snuggle just as much as they want to romp around outside or take a long walk.
You will always find an intelligent gleam in the eye of this breed. They are very gentle with children who are part of their family, often choosing to attach themselves to a single person above all others. Berners can look imposing, but they are rarely threatening unless they feel threatened for some reason. Most maintain an aloofness when around strangers that is so overexaggerated that it can generate a laugh.
If you are thinking about having a Bernese Mountain Dog join your family, then these are the pros and cons you will want to review.

I have had three Bernese. I still celebrate my first Berners birthday, she was born in May 1986 and euthanized in December 1995 due to the cancer. This breed is like a dream of very fine home dog, intelligent, kind and beautiful.
Now I am an 65 yrs old man and when my time comes, I'm going to see her in the other side of the bridge, with all my beloved cats...
My Berner Sennenhund lived to 12 and was the best friend I ever had. I think about her all the time and miss her terribly. For me this is the best breed
The biggest problem of health and therefore of logevity of this formidable dog, came from the part of inescropulosos breeders on both sides of the Atlantic, when this dog became fashionable. Many breeders gave in to easy profits and neglected the selection of good healthy breeding stock.
Fortunately, several serious associations intervened quickly.
For my part, I have always had Berneses, their longevity has been between 11 to 12 and a half years, their origins are from certified breeders.
Wow 🙏🏻 you are one of the lucky owners 👍🏻💕🐶
My Bernese mountain dog only reached the age of 7 years old like most in The Netherlands. It broke my heart to euthanase the dog. We had no choice because cancer was eating away one of his front paws.

I'm so sorry,... I had to put my Rottweiler to sleep this las year. I look at his photos n videos today, it still Hurst so much 💔. But I know he's no longer in pain, and my heart still loves him so much🐶💞
Pros: awesome intelligent, loving, well behaved family dog Con: Don't live long enough and it breaks your heart to have to euthanize your love and best friend ever
So true we lost are’s and it felt like we lost a family member they become such a big factor in your life
I had an Irish wolfhound that lived for 7 yrs. That dog made me not care for the lifespan. It doesn't make me not make me not want to get them, because I will not love them any less, and I will see them again some day
These Dogs Are So Fantastic 👍❤ RIP Dear Fidde, Gone To Soon 🙏😭
Oh man😔😔I plan on moving to a all year round warm weather state... He would be the perfect dog for me. I used to have a goldendoodle and a Rottweiler. He reminds me of both of them. 🥰🐶💕💔
"a Bernese mountain dog needs a knowledgeable owner"
Bieni being my first dog ever:
"Berners are aloof around strangers"
My dog whenever she sees a kid playing that doesn't belong to her family: ARAFF RAFF GROOF ROO ROO ROO ROO ROO 👺👺
Underrated
Half of the pictures are of Australian sheppards
I’m so in love with my girl. Man she’s got a personality
Really? On 3-4 year life span? I have 2 berners with one at 8.5 y/o and the other at 2.5 y/o. My oldest's mom was 10 when she passed away.
They usually live to 8-10
I WISHD ID HAD DOG LIKE THAT
tux was a he looked like a bernese but he was mixed with some healther breed. he lived to be like 9 but sadly did die of cancer and we lived in texas so he lived a fairly still life but never got angry over it
Buttercup 🙂🙂
The only thing that almost changed my mind was you calling it a "burner"😰
3 or 4?!?!
Do they come in micro
0:43- Aaaaahhhhhhhh!
Their normal life span is 7 to 10 years. 3 to 4 is retarded.
"There is arguably no other breed that is more intelligent than the Bernese Mountain Dog" - apart from the fact that we've measured the intelligence of dogs and the Border Collie is proven to be the most intelligent. I love BMDs, but this just shows a lack of research
Do border collies perform better on English or math sections?
3 or 4 years? Omg
8-10 really
Stop I almost paid 5000 for my berner
I'm getting mine for around $2,500, which is around the price right now for these breeds.
Hello,
Please, you Americans, stop calling this dog "Bernese Mountain dog", that's just too ridiculous. It is absolutely not his name. The word "Bouvier" (in French) or "Senne" (in German) means cow keeper. The REAL name of this dog in English is therefore "Bernese Cattle Dog"
He is a wonderful dog and I believe he has the right to be called by name.
Thanks for him.
Golden retrievers aren't golden. Should we change that too? Or maybe change chocolate lab to meat flavored lab.
God, I hate you.
