- It has been 84 years since my Oliver 60 rolled off the assembly line, and 34 years since we restored it. It's time for it to work again. The tedder is a Kuhn GT222. We also see what it takes to install a temperature gauge. Twice.

I love seeing these old tractors still being productive. I especially liked hearing the history of this one. Side note; I don’t want to get into your business but I think Discount Chris is overpaid and you definitely don’t want him hanging with Ross the Oliver Man, he makes bad life decisions. 😂

Chris do you plan on attending any farm shows with your tractors during the summer? Would love to see you. We are Oliver fans ❤
I'm hoping to drive Herman to the tractor show at Cornwell's Turkeyville July 12-14. That one depends on how wheat harvest is going. I'll make an announcement if I do go. I'm also doing the tractor crossing of the Mackinac Bridge in September and will be taking a tractor to that in September. Beyond that, I haven't made any plans.
I love these historical stories. I think many farmers and enthusiasts can relate. Our 1937 John Deere G has a similar story. This tractor sounds really good pulling that tedder. It may be 18 hp but it doesn't sound like it was running all that hard.
It didn't seem to work it at all.

That was hilarious, Chris. I would like to watch Ross when he sees it for the first time. He may start drinking. Actually, I enjoy the way the 2 of you pick at each other and get along so good. It was awesome watching the 60 and hearing the story behind it. Keep up the good work, I always enjoy

I would have loved to have my dad's old Farmall H, but he traded it in the late 60's early 70's. I do have the first tractor that I bought in 91, a gas powered MF 65. I've done a lot of work on it, from brush hogging to lifting the I beam to my new house. Hey, don't get on to Discount Chris, well not too much, he's not the only one that does those type of moronic things. I saw a guy in the mirror that did the exact same thing, Ha ha ha. They aren't restored, but they are tucked away in a barn.
I got a little 60, I never run it but my brother will rake a little hay for me with it every year. I remember buying a bunch of parts for it back in the day, needed engine side panels, seat suspension parts, had a cherry bomb for a muffler so bought the little coffee can muffler for under the hood and the tiny little straight pipe🤣. Then paint decals and gauges, it's a cute little unit now.
My dad also scratched the date or hours onto the oil filter. Our 66 was the main tractor used for raking, because we still used a converted horse drawn rake. On day our Oliver dealer showed up with a wheel rake. He made a couple of passes around the hay field, pulling it with his truck. Dad bought it on the spot.
Field demonstrations were a good sales tool back then. I've heard many stories of the dealer bringing a tractor or piece of equipment to a farmer and not having to take it back to the dealership.

You really can do allot with an Oliver 60 for only having 18 pto hp. I didn't know that the real early hoods were different like that. Supposedly the early belt pulleys were different. They changed the housing so it was flat on the end and belt pulley they added 2 bolts to push the pulley of so you didn't have the transmission flywheel when you didn't need the pulley. But unfortunately, a lot of pulleys did not stay the tractors then. 60's send me down memory lane even though that tractor was 52 years old when I was born.
A few years ago I was able to buy a correct early belt pulley without the puller bolts. I need to get some paint that matches and swap them out.

You're probably referring to the 77 Standard. Some people tell me it needs restored, orhers say leave it original.

Nice video Chris. That brings back lot of hay raking memories. I raked an acre or 2 of hay with a RC 60. No mechanical lift, and straight gear shift. Later on a neighbor got a curved shaft. That one also had automatic turning brakes which probably was nice if a fella got used to turning with it. They sure didn't use much fuel.
Thanks! They eliminated the turning brakes later in production, once they had 5 speeds instead of 4. Too much risk of flipping at high speed.
Ive got the big brother to that lil 60. Ive got a 1940 70 row crop. It was my grandfathers. We cleaned it up when i was 13 new paint and went through it. I still use it today. Great tractors.

wow dig that crazy style. remember in 1939 ih was selling f-14 and f-20, antique when new. jd had dreyfus give the b and a the beauty treatment, oliver really pushed tractors forward. best wishes, oh by the way, we still run a '39 b and a f-20 here on ball-acre farm.
Cool. The late 30s and early 40 seem to be where tractor design went from "we.ve built this, where should we put the operator?" to "the operator goes here, and his wife might have some input on this."

I want to get myself a Ferguson 35, because that little tractor was the first one my dad actually turned me loose to drive all on my own, AND I was raking hay with the Vicon 6 wheel three point hitch rake on it. I also would like to have a Cockshutt 1900 with a Detroit in it, the 2nd tractor I got to run. The Ferguson is a realistic garage tractor for a town dweller, and I can go play with the guys at the Westlock Tractor Museum if I want to. I can help polish up the big weathervane too.

Amazon. Once I figured out what had happened to the temp gauge, I was of course feeling like an idiot. I got thinking of how I should have a dunce cap for stuff like that. I searched dunce cap, and it came up with this dance cap. The wheels started turning from there. 😂😂😂

What does tending do for the hay just make it dry faster
Yep. It gets it back up off the ground and spreads it out. It will usually knock a day off the drying time.
Does the side sheiilds make the motor run hotter?? Do you have the first tractor that was bought on the farm by your Grandfather or Great Grandfather?
A lot of guys took the side shields off to help with heat, so I'd have to say yes. Unfortunately, I've never heard what was the first tractor for the farm, from our dealership. They only started selling Oliver a couple years prior, so this one could be it.
I gotta get my 60 running. I gotta rebuild the motor and can’t find any parts
I think Maibach has piston and sleeve sets that are basically what I talked about. Or maybe that's for the 70.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris yea. Mine was totally overhauled in the late 60’s. They never put oil in it and never ran it after the overhaul and put the tractor in a damp building with steel sides and now the entire motor is totally junk

Wow, farming with an 84-year-old tractor. Nothing like it. Not many can say they’ve had a family tractor that long. You need to lay off of those Ross videos they’re not very helpful.
