  • Third times the charm...or is it? Ghostface returns with a personal vendetta against Sidney Prescott in Scream 3. With the departure of series writer, Kevin Williamson, Scream 3 has a huge uphill battle to match or surpass the previous two films. Did it achieve this?

    If I remember right the plot of Scream 3 was changed after the Columbine High School massacre. Originally Scream 3 was set to take place in Woodsboro again. I believe the studio thought it would be in poor taste to kill high school students after the Columbine High School massacre. So they changed the setting to Hollywood to avoid that.

      Yeah, the original plot was supposed have Stu Macher come back, and influence a student(s) to commit the murders. Also, Neve Campbell wasn't able to be on set as often. I believe they said that she was tending to other things at the time; so that's why she's not seen as much as she was in the previous films. To say they had many circumstances and obstacles to overcome, Scream 3 was very well done.

    I may be in the minority, but I loved Scream 3. Sid's arch is really great and the 3rd act is a great ending to Sidney's main storyline. Roman was a great character, but his off screen "death" in the basement was an immediate giveaway. I enjoyed the mother being apart of the storyline and its effects on Sidney's mental instability. It's the Scream movie I watch the most.

    Scream 3 is one of my favorite of the franchise.
    - The soundtrack is amazing!
    - Randys return is done very well.
    - Sidneys storyline is good
    - her "love interest" is handled perfectly
    - love her return to Woodsboro scene
    - love that it's not as bloody as 5 or 6.
    And Neve still has more screen time than in 5.

    Scream 3 is an underrated film I got some entertainment out of it, I would say I rather watched this film over Urban Legend Final Cut (2000) that movie came out the same year of 2000 that film sucks more than Scream 3 cause I thought it was a piece of shit, so I don't Mind Scream 3 its underrated.

    I actually don't hate Scream 3, which appears to be a controversial opinion among Fans of the Scream franchise.
    As a big fan of Neve Campbell, I do absolutely adore Sidney, but it was refreshing having the movie with a split focus, seeing in more detail the Adventures of Dewey and Gale. I also loved to hate the new characters.
    Parker Posey as Jennifer was absolutely hilarious.
    That Jay and Silent Bob Cameo was also very dope.
    Scream 3 is Okay. It isn't nearly as good as Scream 1, 2 or even Scream 4 but it's still pretty decent in my honest opinion.
    I think the main problem of the movie is that it was just too predictable.

    Lol this is hilarious. We are on the same page that this is the worst of the franchise but our likes and dislikes are opposite. The MAIN salvation of this movie for me was Parker Posey. CLASSIC. Every scene she was in she stole with comedy or fear or over acting on purpose. I frickin love her! We agree on Sidney but I love romantic comedy Dewey and Gale in this movie lol it’s as corny as the movie itself. Detective Bland red herring from Greys Anatomy I could actually have done without. It’s Sydney’s best portrayal and I like Roman as a ghost face, he has arguably the best motive of a ghost face. I agree they shouldn’t have tried to mess with the established story of the original.

    I kinda agree with this review. I completely agree about most of the characters being throw-aways. Didn't care for them at all. However, I primarily disagree quite a bit with one aspect - the killer. I thought Roman's character was really good and his reveal as the killer. I even actually really liked his role of manipulating the events of the first movie, and indirectly, the second, too. And the fact that he was her half-brother made it even more personal. IMO, Roman gives off a strong/smart "mastermind" vibe. And it kinda makes sense too, because Stu was an absolute idiot and Billy almost seemed too crazy to be truly brilliant. I like the idea of Roman manipulating them, or at least Billy, Billy then manipulated Stu. While definitely not my favorite movie of the franchise, heck, probably even my least, Roman is actually my favorite Ghostface. Heck, he was the only one smart enough to do it all by himself. Next favorite would be Mrs. Loomis. Everything else you said I more or less agree with.

    • @alyssamayle477
      @alyssamayle477 Před 5 lety +1

      gnc623 that's actually true! billy and stu were pretty dumb lol and Roman being sidneys brother worked for me because he's been chasing her through the whole series anyway so you might as well make them related

    • @07foxmulder
      @07foxmulder Před 4 lety

      Billy and Stu were never meant to be geniuses. They were average, every day teenagers. The Roman character was supposed to come across as smart but I found him to be a wimpy goof. I remember when I first saw Scream 3 I had no idea who he was at first during the reveal. That’s how forgettable he was to me lol

    • @gnc623
      @gnc623 Před rokem

      @@07foxmulder I have to contend with the notion of him being wimpy. Roman was probably one of, if not the, most physically threatening Ghostfaces. His showdown with Sidney is actually pretty intense. Roman is also almost the only killer who is just as tough with the mask off as he is with it on. Seems like all the other characters lost half of their strength and agility once the mask came off....but not Roman. I get that some people find Roman to be a whiny momma's boy, but then you honestly have to say the same thing about Billy. I will agree with you that they could have shown his character maybe just a bit more, but I thought they did a sufficient job of making you not suspect him by setting up the red herring with the detective. I will concede though they should have had him and Sidney meet at least once before his reveal though.

I think they shouldn’t have been trying to put things in the movie like that that wasn’t even around at the time and I don’t even know if it’s invented today. I think it could’ve done great without that. And, in my opinion they shouldn’t have killed off Cotton in the beginning. I liked what happened with him at the end of Scream 2 and would have liked to see more of his character in the third. Other than that, Scream 3 would’ve been like any other Scream movie, just set in Hollywood. Let’s just be thankful we didn’t get Ghostface in Space😂😂

The final script is atrocious and the ones before the rewrites were somehow even worse. It's really a shame they rushed this out because the concept of Ghostface killing off the Stab 3 cast could have been really cool if they had executed it properly.

I thought the killer reveal in scream 2 was lame because he was a really minor character who had less than 10 lines and when he came on screen, I had to google him. Hi Cody.
    I’m rewatching all the Scream movies right now after many years since I last saw they. I have yet to rewatch the fourth movie and I must say that, unlike your preview reviews of Scream 1 & 2, it is the first time that I mostly disagree with your analysis. I enjoyed this movie much more than the the second one. Scream 1 is really good and I used to think that the second was amazing (I not longer think so after watching the movie yesterday). Scream 3, although a bit convoluted in the story part, is really enjoyable. You might be right that you don’t get as invested in the charachters as in previous films, but I feel that you really couldn’t tell who was going to die in the movie. Even Neve Campbell “dies” at a certain point. Cox and Arquette’s story arc isn’t the best, but it’s still fun to watch. Other characters are good enough... I don’t know. Everyone’s definitely entitled to their own opinion. I guess I just wanted to say that as my 2020 rerun of this series, 3 was more entertaining than 2 for me.
    Looking forward to rewatch 4 again and compare my opinion to yours.
    Take care. Saludos from Spain

    Eh to me Scream 3 was a little better than Scream 4 (SCRE4M). Not saying that Scream 4 is bad, I still enjoyed it. But the only interesting character in the fourth one was Kirby. Also, because they didn’t add anything new to the shock value considering the fact that all the returning cast members are all still alive at the end. They kept the same cliche with Dewey and Gail surviving everything.

    Supposedly the Roman "twist" was planned from the beginning and part of Kevin Williamson's outline that they supposedly followed. According to Matthew Lillard the screenplay was changed in 1999 due to the columbine tragedy, there were supposed to be flashback scenes to Roman approaching Billy and Stu with his plan and the murder of Maureen. Along with the reveal that Stu survived the TV smash and has been in prison since the events of the first movie, which they may still use in Scream 5, Stu pulling the strings from behind bars.

    That plot point about Maureen Prescott’s ordeal, it was such open knowledge, regarding Harvey Weinstein’s heinous crimes. Harvey Weinstein was a producer on Scream 3, Weinstein’s known diabolical pleasure from getting away with his Caligulan delights in plain sight is arguably most primely (and sickly) revealed in Scream 3, which he possibly chose to let slide in this particular film for how rarely viewed it is in comparison to its two predecessors. Yet it is for this reason that Scream 3 might just be the creepiest out of all four installments. Harvey Weinstein served as an executive producer on all four of Wes Craven's Scream movies (as well as the TV show of the same name, That Harvey Weinstein lurked over the producing credits now feels like a horrible kind of irony. “You can see the similarities in the demise of the very company that produced it,” the film’s editor, Patrick Lussier stated, ultimately I don’t think the story in “Scream 3” is appreciated as much as it should be, But The irony of “Scream 3, is that it was distributed by Dimension Films. Scream 3 was inundated by scheduling issues, studio meddling, and daily rewrites. Twisting itself around this convoluted narrative is the fact that Harvey Weinstein executive-produced the movie, sometimes they say that truth is stranger than fiction.
    Dimension Films’ projects were largely overseen by Bob Weinstein, with Harvey distracted by more Oscar-friendly material over at Miramax, parallels between Harvey Weinstein and John Milton are clear, but what remains a mystery is if the Miramax head was ignorant of the similarities between himself and the fictional producer or was, far more disgustingly, boasting about his crimes to a largely uninformed public.
    After all, life imitates art and vice versa.

    I downloaded the original Scream 3 script. The original killer was Neil Prescott - Sidney's dad, wanting to avenge Maureen by killing Cotton Weary (suceeded) and killing Gale Weathers (failed). It plays out the same, with STAB 3 and everything. Cotton's original girlfriend was Sarah Darling, and Angelina was a huge star who was killef at the same way Sarah Darling did in the actual movie. Classic - Dewey gets stabbed once again, and Gale stabbing Neil in the heart - killing him. Much better than revealing Roman, Sidney's half-brother we never heard of!
