- Third times the charm...or is it? Ghostface returns with a personal vendetta against Sidney Prescott in Scream 3. With the departure of series writer, Kevin Williamson, Scream 3 has a huge uphill battle to match or surpass the previous two films. Did it achieve this?

My favorite part of Scream 3: Carrie Fisher’s cameo!!!
I think this was the only bit of this film I truly loved
Parker Posey was actually one of my favorite parts of Scream 3.
Same here. She's great
I actually find her character quite entertaining. She was hilarious in the mansion scenes.
If I remember right the plot of Scream 3 was changed after the Columbine High School massacre. Originally Scream 3 was set to take place in Woodsboro again. I believe the studio thought it would be in poor taste to kill high school students after the Columbine High School massacre. So they changed the setting to Hollywood to avoid that.
Sideout1000, that’s what I have heard as well.
.
Yeah, the original plot was supposed have Stu Macher come back, and influence a student(s) to commit the murders. Also, Neve Campbell wasn't able to be on set as often. I believe they said that she was tending to other things at the time; so that's why she's not seen as much as she was in the previous films. To say they had many circumstances and obstacles to overcome, Scream 3 was very well done.
+Alfieski Ohhhh, I gotcha! Wow, only 20 days? No wonder she isn't seen but only near to end of the film.
Sideout1000 the script was given to create the show "the following"
Parker Posey was a wonderful addition to the Scream franchise and I would’ve loved if she lived on to be in 4. She’s hilarious! My main issues are the killer, the twist, and Courtney Cox’s hair lol.
I enjoy Parker Posey. She was so over the top I thought she was a redeeming quality for this movie
Yeah Gail's hair was completely ridiculous
Tf was up with those bangs?
Scarlet Jester it was the 90s 😭😭😭
@@Noah-rq3xt yep
@@scarletjester8446 i liked her hair

don't ask me why I loved parker posey's performance ! I think she steals every scene she was in
I love Parker Posery in this movie. She was so funny!
I may be in the minority, but I loved Scream 3. Sid's arch is really great and the 3rd act is a great ending to Sidney's main storyline. Roman was a great character, but his off screen "death" in the basement was an immediate giveaway. I enjoyed the mother being apart of the storyline and its effects on Sidney's mental instability. It's the Scream movie I watch the most.
Scream 3 is one of my favorite of the franchise.
- The soundtrack is amazing!
- Randys return is done very well.
- Sidneys storyline is good
- her "love interest" is handled perfectly
- love her return to Woodsboro scene
- love that it's not as bloody as 5 or 6.
And Neve still has more screen time than in 5.
Scream 3 is an underrated film I got some entertainment out of it, I would say I rather watched this film over Urban Legend Final Cut (2000) that movie came out the same year of 2000 that film sucks more than Scream 3 cause I thought it was a piece of shit, so I don't Mind Scream 3 its underrated.
Oh, I agree. Final cut is a piece of crap. I watched the original Urban Legends. Like it, even with all the logical errors in it, and the fact that I didn't like it when I watched it a year ago. That movie is not as good as I remembered. I was just taken a back with the sequel when I watched it in theatres.
Urban legend 2 has more creative deaths than scream 3. Also the characters were more interesting and fun
Jr. Vargas
I hate Urban Legend Final Cut it was a shitty sequel with dumb stupid boring characters and a stupid ending I still love the first Urban Legend film it's 90s horror classic and better, but I didn't mind Scream 3 an underrated sequel.
I like urban legend but the 2nd one sucked and third
What was wrong with urban legends?
Scream 3 is my all time favorite scream movie. I know that is an unpopular opinion but this movie has a lot of meaning for me and the entire Scream Franchise.
Christopher Sheehy Jr. Mine too
The first is mine.. but I love different views
respect.
I enjoyed all 4 movies but my favourites are Scream and Scream 4
I can at least understand your concept. Halloween 5 is actually one of my favorites in that entire franchise lol
I actually don't hate Scream 3, which appears to be a controversial opinion among Fans of the Scream franchise.
As a big fan of Neve Campbell, I do absolutely adore Sidney, but it was refreshing having the movie with a split focus, seeing in more detail the Adventures of Dewey and Gale. I also loved to hate the new characters.
Parker Posey as Jennifer was absolutely hilarious.
That Jay and Silent Bob Cameo was also very dope.
Scream 3 is Okay. It isn't nearly as good as Scream 1, 2 or even Scream 4 but it's still pretty decent in my honest opinion.
I think the main problem of the movie is that it was just too predictable.
Horrormaster13
Scream 3 is really underrated to watched, I thought this film was entertaining.
I wouldn’t say it’s controversial, you’re just the minority. But it’s been twenty years (holy shit) since its release so you’ll probably find more and more people who appreciate it. That’s how it usually goes.
Juno2000 it was good to me too as well as nostalgic
The 3rd act was my favorite part of this
Agree, exept for the reveal lol. Wish they went with the original pitch that Stu survived and was the killer, Roman was just such an anticlimax
I agree about the soundtrack.
I actually like Scream 3 .
Same!
It was ok
After knowing how much hell this movie went through during development, I just rewatched again for the first time in a while and I enjoyed it a lot, always have. If this is the worst in a franchise, then the franchise is doing something right.
Lol this is hilarious. We are on the same page that this is the worst of the franchise but our likes and dislikes are opposite. The MAIN salvation of this movie for me was Parker Posey. CLASSIC. Every scene she was in she stole with comedy or fear or over acting on purpose. I frickin love her! We agree on Sidney but I love romantic comedy Dewey and Gale in this movie lol it’s as corny as the movie itself. Detective Bland red herring from Greys Anatomy I could actually have done without. That and Gales famous horrible bangs. My God, those bangs!!! Lol
I agree with you on Parker Posey! She was hilarious in this movie! My favorite line from her was "My lawyer liked that!" after Gale hit her. lol. And yes that bang Gale had was HORRENDOUS!
Ya her bangs pissed me tf off
Yes those bangs were awful!! the first time we watched this as kids and we saw gale for the first time we were all like 😣
Fooking Hannibal King!
I should've ripped his bleeding heart out while I had the chance!
I'm surprised that you never mentioned Courtney's terrible hairstyle Cody. That always distracted me in Scream 3 she had great hair in the first two.
Who tf cares about her hairstyle
Scream 2 already killed off Randy. That's really the main reason why they kept Dewey alive at the last minute. So by #3 you knew he would live. Also Dewey got to kill off Roman, so i thought that was cool.
I love Scream 3, sorry, Parker Posey is freaking awesome in this movie!
Patrick Warburton was pretty good too even though his role was brief
You must love the kills in MTV's scream, violent and different each time
Great review Cody! I always enjoy your reviews. As far as scream 3, I feel it is underrated. Sure it has a bunch of bad characters and they could have done a lot better job with the writing. It’s Sydney’s best portrayal and I like Roman as a ghost face, he has arguably the best motive of a ghost face. I agree they shouldn’t have tried to mess with the established story of the original.
Ahh finally it's almost time for my favorite scream sequel Scream 4.
I like to point out that scream 4 is a return film and not a sequel just like Live Free or Die Hard
Mar Gillard I look at 4 as a sequel/reboot/remake all in one lmao
Na its a sequel not a reboot
I kinda agree with this review. I completely agree about most of the characters being throw-aways. Didn't care for them at all. However, I primarily disagree quite a bit with one aspect - the killer. I thought Roman's character was really good and his reveal as the killer. I even actually really liked his role of manipulating the events of the first movie, and indirectly, the second, too. And the fact that he was her half-brother made it even more personal. IMO, Roman gives off a strong/smart "mastermind" vibe. And it kinda makes sense too, because Stu was an absolute idiot and Billy almost seemed too crazy to be truly brilliant. I like the idea of Roman manipulating them, or at least Billy, Billy then manipulated Stu. While definitely not my favorite movie of the franchise, heck, probably even my least, Roman is actually my favorite Ghostface. Heck, he was the only one smart enough to do it all by himself. Next favorite would be Mrs. Loomis. Everything else you said I more or less agree with.
gnc623 that's actually true! billy and stu were pretty dumb lol and Roman being sidneys brother worked for me because he's been chasing her through the whole series anyway so you might as well make them related
Billy and Stu were never meant to be geniuses. They were average, every day teenagers. The Roman character was supposed to come across as smart but I found him to be a wimpy goof. I remember when I first saw Scream 3 I had no idea who he was at first during the reveal. That’s how forgettable he was to me lol
@@07foxmulder I have to contend with the notion of him being wimpy. Roman was probably one of, if not the, most physically threatening Ghostfaces. His showdown with Sidney is actually pretty intense. Roman is also almost the only killer who is just as tough with the mask off as he is with it on. Seems like all the other characters lost half of their strength and agility once the mask came off....but not Roman. I get that some people find Roman to be a whiny momma's boy, but then you honestly have to say the same thing about Billy. I will agree with you that they could have shown his character maybe just a bit more, but I thought they did a sufficient job of making you not suspect him by setting up the red herring with the detective. I will concede though they should have had him and Sidney meet at least once before his reveal though.
I really like Scream 3. You can kill me but I rarther watch this over Scream 4.
S3 is my Fav after part 1 😎
I agree (sort of). My first I'd Scream 1 then Scream 2 and 3 are joint. I really can't be bothered with Scream 4, it doesn't need to exist. Scream was meant to be a trilogy, so why did they make another fucking film! Scream 4 might work on it's own, not as a Scream film but as just another slasher film.
Same 😅
THANK YOU
Agreed!!
On the latter, we agree. Scream 4 just felt like a pointless cash-grab.
I always enjoyed Gale Weathers little bit more than Sidney Prescot. She is a character that usually dies in other movies and yet...she is still alive. And Parker Posey as her version of Gale Weathers is a treasure. Thanks for reviews. Enjoying them a lot.
i agree about the flat characters but i really liked the Parker Posey's low buget Gail
Honestly, I loved Scream 3. It had an amazing storyline and plot but I do admit, they shouldn’t have done the voice changer thing. I think they shouldn’t have been trying to put things in the movie like that that wasn’t even around at the time and I don’t even know if it’s invented today. I think it could’ve done great without that. And, in my opinion they shouldn’t have killed off Cotton in the beginning. I liked what happened with him at the end of Scream 2 and would have liked to see more of his character in the third. Other than that, Scream 3 would’ve been like any other Scream movie, just set in Hollywood. Let’s just be thankful we didn’t get Ghostface in Space😂😂
Now I want a Fan Film of Ghostface in Space!! 🤣😂 Sound duplicating technology has been around a while but probably not so casual back then and I 100% agree about Cotton. He was a very interesting character and would have liked more of him.
Oh my god that intro
The Scream 3 soundtrack was the first CD I ever owned. Still have it, too.
Love or hate this movie it gave us a great Parker posey death IMO I loved it when she screams
" I'm the killer in stab 3 " lmao
I loved Parker Posey in Scream 3
The best killer was roman, he killed on his own without a partner. I like his individuality, no partner is the best part
U never get dislikes which means u never disappoint!!!
What it was that she was going back and forth to finish the last season of party of five which was season 6 which ended 18 years ago in May 2000 same year but different months so that's why we didn't see more of her in scream 3 so we couldn't blame the movie that it was released in a bad year at the bad time but still it was a great movie.
Biggest dissapointment of the whole film is that I just felt like they shouldn't of killed Cotton so early on. Complete waste of potential. He was built up so much in the 2nd film that I thought that he would play a significant role of this one.
Scream had my favorite twist at the end because it was a surprise that I had no idea was coming. Also Scream 4's twist was interesting and believable unfortunately.
With the Maureen Prescott backstory they did pay homage to Amanda Kruger rape & conception of Freddy, Roman pursuing Sidney pays homage the first 2 Halloween films.
Storywise it was one of my fav for a long time; the reveals, the connections to why it all started for Billy, Sydney and the story of her mother, etc. But i admit that, as the whole serie is concerned, is the weakest on the scares and the murders.
Been looking forward to this I just recently picked up the four film set your reviews finally convinced me to bite the bullet and buy it
I actually feel bad for the cast of this movie. Honestly I really liked Parker Posey as Jennifer. Emily Mortimer is a great actress but nobody had anything to work with. The final script is atrocious and the ones before the rewrites were somehow even worse. It's really a shame they rushed this out because the concept of Ghostface killing off the Stab 3 cast could have been really cool if they had executed it properly.
Great video Lee, really neat to see Bryan in the video too!
Hahahahaha
Unpopular Opinion: This movie is better than Scream 2. I thought the killer reveal in scream 2 was lame because he was a really minor character who had less than 10 lines and when he came on screen, I had to google him. I thought the first act of Scream 2 was boring and tbh I really like all of Scream 3.
I do like the fact that there’s 1 killer in this movie, that shows that Roman was smart enough and he didn’t need any allies…
Hi Cody.
I’m rewatching all the Scream movies right now after many years since I last saw they. I have yet to rewatch the fourth movie and I must say that, unlike your preview reviews of Scream 1 & 2, it is the first time that I mostly disagree with your analysis. I enjoyed this movie much more than the the second one. Scream 1 is really good and I used to think that the second was amazing (I not longer think so after watching the movie yesterday). Scream 3, although a bit convoluted in the story part, is really enjoyable. You might be right that you don’t get as invested in the charachters as in previous films, but I feel that you really couldn’t tell who was going to die in the movie. Even Neve Campbell “dies” at a certain point. Cox and Arquette’s story arc isn’t the best, but it’s still fun to watch. Other characters are good enough... I don’t know. Everyone’s definitely entitled to their own opinion. I guess I just wanted to say that as my 2020 rerun of this series, 3 was more entertaining than 2 for me.
Looking forward to rewatch 4 again and compare my opinion to yours.
Take care. Saludos from Spain
Oh man I'm dying at when you almost said "dale" I can only imagine i think you were gonna say "gooey" haha Dale and gooey 🤣🤣🤣 mainly agree with you on everything you said
Eh to me Scream 3 was a little better than Scream 4 (SCRE4M). Not saying that Scream 4 is bad, I still enjoyed it. But the only interesting character in the fourth one was Kirby. Also, because they didn’t add anything new to the shock value considering the fact that all the returning cast members are all still alive at the end. They kept the same cliche with Dewey and Gail surviving everything.
Scream 3 was suppose to be Stew being in prison and pulling strings with his cult like Manson but Columbine happened
MadelineTopper No he didn’t you can look ot up
Great job Cody! I'm looking forward to your review for Scream 4.
I like the voice changer that mimics people's voices, a very cool touch!
I actually did like Scream 3. Cause it was a bit of irony on the secret shit that goes down in Hollywood that resulted in Roman Bridger. LOL!
Don’t love or don’t hate it but I liked the opening with Cotton’s death and the Ghostface reveal
Unfortunately they didn’t have much of a choice when it came to Sidney’s limited screen time as Neve Campbell only agreed to return for a short amount of time as she didn’t really want to do the film.
Parker Posey is excellent in _Party Girl_ and _Josie and the Pussycats_
Hey man, I know this is an old video, but I am really enjoying your channel! You are definitely in my top 3 horror channels! Keep it up bro.
15:32 I think it's funny that his vest can stop bullets but couldn't stop Sidney's knife😂... Watch where the knife is in his chest, bullets are hitting above it🤦🏻
Don't care what anyone says... Scream 3 is still my favorite!!!
i agree. apparently noone who didn't like it got the movie.
Scream 3 was indeed not as good as 1, 2, and 4. But, I look back on it now as a nostalgia trip and as sort of a spoof of the franchise, like Scary Movie lol
I've never heard anyone else mention Patrick Dempsey in Run....such a great film!!! 🍿
If you would have said "Dale and Gooey" I would have died laughing hahaha
awesome review man can't wait for your review on scream 4 and hopefully the TV series I love the scream franchise
Lol glad you acknowledged the greatness of Dazed & Confused.
It's a lot cooler that he did
Scott Senarosa Lmao
I liked the 3rd one, a bit better than the 2nd but the reveal seem pretty contrived with too much after the fact retconning. 4 was definitely a step up though.
Supposedly the Roman "twist" was planned from the beginning and part of Kevin Williamson's outline that they supposedly followed. According to Matthew Lillard the screenplay was changed in 1999 due to the columbine tragedy, there were supposed to be flashback scenes to Roman approaching Billy and Stu with his plan and the murder of Maureen. Along with the reveal that Stu survived the TV smash and has been in prison since the events of the first movie, which they may still use in Scream 5, Stu pulling the strings from behind bars.
"Welcome to the final act."
Until 2011.
The Characters Gail and Dewey were written to be like a married couple always arguing.
I agree with your review. I remember watching Scream 3 being pissed at Roman for taking credits for the first Scream. I was standing there thinking HOW DARE YOU!
He wasn't half as entertaining as Stu and Billy.
I liked it almost as much as part 2 when I first saw it. That being said, watching it more than once was not as entertaining and the ending is a cop out.
Have you made a top 10 movie openings video? Would love to see your opinions
Best thing about this film: the symbolic ending with Sidney leaving the door open
Worst thing about this film: Gale’s haircut
I love your reviews! Have you reviewed the following yet?
Sinister, Insidious, Waxwork, 28 Days Later, Eden Lake, Ghost Stories, Paperhouse.
My favorite songs from The Scream 3 soundtrack are
1. What if by creed
2. Is this the end by creed
3. Automatic by American Pearl
Scream 3 was such a letdown
"You're obsessed with her!!! And you're obsessed with her daughter!!!" - Parker Posey Scream 3
Not the best m ovie but its still entertaining
I enjoyed that this ghost face can mimic anyone’s voice. It allowed him to scheme everything easier and have fun with it. It also shows how well he research everyone .
Is it just me or did the beginning of scream 3 feel like alien 3 and let's not forget the most WTF cameo in the entire movie, Jay and silent bob
Great review, I like how you point out although it is bad it is not bad like freddys dead...Good job.. I still love this movie though only because it did not feel like the other screams that preceded it. This felt unique.
Looking back at this now...and reading the comments regarding to "worst of the franchise" made me wonder, could they have made a better final act in that time? Don't get me wrong, I would still like to keep scream 4 but how could scream 3 be made better and if so how would that affect the story of scream 4?
Boring characters, an death by a house explosion, No Kevin Williamson and worst of all, A DREAM SEQUENCE!! Prior to Scream 3 Wes said there will never be a dream sequence in a Scream movie because hes done with them after Nightmare.... Booooo
That plot point about Maureen Prescott’s ordeal, it was such open knowledge, regarding Harvey Weinstein’s heinous crimes. Harvey Weinstein was a producer on Scream 3, Weinstein’s known diabolical pleasure from getting away with his Caligulan delights in plain sight is arguably most primely (and sickly) revealed in Scream 3, which he possibly chose to let slide in this particular film for how rarely viewed it is in comparison to its two predecessors. Yet it is for this reason that Scream 3 might just be the creepiest out of all four installments. Harvey Weinstein served as an executive producer on all four of Wes Craven's Scream movies (as well as the TV show of the same name, That Harvey Weinstein lurked over the producing credits now feels like a horrible kind of irony. “You can see the similarities in the demise of the very company that produced it,” the film’s editor, Patrick Lussier stated, ultimately I don’t think the story in “Scream 3” is appreciated as much as it should be, But The irony of “Scream 3, is that it was distributed by Dimension Films. Scream 3 was inundated by scheduling issues, studio meddling, and daily rewrites. Twisting itself around this convoluted narrative is the fact that Harvey Weinstein executive-produced the movie, sometimes they say that truth is stranger than fiction.
Dimension Films’ projects were largely overseen by Bob Weinstein, with Harvey distracted by more Oscar-friendly material over at Miramax, parallels between Harvey Weinstein and John Milton are clear, but what remains a mystery is if the Miramax head was ignorant of the similarities between himself and the fictional producer or was, far more disgustingly, boasting about his crimes to a largely uninformed public.
After all, life imitates art and vice versa.
Lmao intro was gold
Scream 3 has some entertainment value, but in my opinion it's the worst of the 4 movies.
No. Scream 4 is the worst👽
Scream 4 is the worst
Jamest98 your out of your mind
12:54 I don't get how Roman managed to record the multiple voices on his voice changer.
The movies are piss takes of all stupid things and ppl from other horrors. That's y they are comdey horrors.
I always laughed at Sydney's face/reaction when the killer (roman) is revealed. Shes like who the fuck are you again. You kinda forgot about him since he wasnt in a lot of the movie and then he has an offscreen fake death. Lameeeeeee
The Holly cameo in the intro had me dead 😂😂
My parents were incredibly strict in my middle school days so although I didnt have see it in theatres I watched it on a continuous loop of a blockbuster video.
Patrick Dempsey should’ve been Sidney’s husband in Scream 4 to me. Just to have another familiar character aside from the main 3. Plus the way Scream 3 ended you’d think they were dating.
I've read alot on here of Stu coming back and manipulating Teens to kill like a cult like leader? So is he actually Alive and in prison in scream 3? Anyone help?
I liked B version Gale lol
This is such an underrated gem imo
I downloaded the original Scream 3 script. The original killer was Neil Prescott - Sidney's dad, wanting to avenge Maureen by killing Cotton Weary (suceeded) and killing Gale Weathers (failed). It plays out the same, with STAB 3 and everything. Cotton's original girlfriend was Sarah Darling, and Angelina was a huge star who was killef at the same way Sarah Darling did in the actual movie. Classic - Dewey gets stabbed once again, and Gale stabbing Neil in the heart - killing him. Much better than revealing Roman, Sidney's half-brother we never heard of!
The intros to these scream vids funny asf
scream 3 is okay, like you said..sidney and her fighting scene are awesome. I actually liked parker posey in this haha but yeah it's not better than part 1 or part 2 but it's alright in it's own way 😊
The detective was cool in this movie. I totally thought he was the killer at first but I got the feeling he wasn't.
I still remember the Creed "What If" music video at the end of the credits on VHS & DVD.
Scream 3 is the Scream movie I watch the most! I appreciate I’m majorly in the minority but I find it so entertaining. Gail’s hair is the only thing I can’t deal with 😅
That beginning was perfect that guy makes great reviews but i dont remember his name :(
Will I Like It Reviews
Hey Cody, if you could make a horror movie how would you make it? Like what would you do?
If it came out before COLUMBINE they wouldn’t have had to change the script and it could take place in woodsboro
