Agreed with other positive reviewers stating that you are very on point, no filler, no fluff, just good, straight forward, educational and informative content. Brilliant really. 12:39 -- "...University of Nottingham has invited me back to do some more lectures..."
There's a channel here on CZcams called Computerphile, and they often show videos from professors at the University of Nottingham. Have you ever met Professor Brailsford? He's one of my favorites! I love watching his lectures on Computer Science.

I spent 25 years in the Business School at Nottingham, and for most of that time I had an office in a building next door to Computer Science. So I met Dave Brailsford and several of the other Computerphile presenters on many, many occasions. I also did some teaching in the school. Happy days! :)

    A very handy little PC.
have a more unusual use-case for mine: it replaced my server PC.
Gone from a server PC (running a large heavily modded minecraft server, plus also a backup of the data on my NAS to a 6TB USB3 HDD) consuming roughly 250W-300W at the wall 24/7 to this lattepanda doing the same job at approx 10W and doing it faster...
Very impressed. Fan doesn't come on at all unless the minecraft server has people logged on and the cpu usage goes above 50%, otherwise it just sits there passively cooled.

Extraordinary, especially when I think back to the early days with University of Louisville's computer (much less powerful than todays cell phones) took up most of a 25' square room and it's biggest use was to play Star Trek (text only kids, no graphic interface back then). So much so that they had to block most of the portals during the week so the professors and grad students could get access! I look forward to seeing the next few generations and ESPECIALLY look forward to next week's first build we're all anxiously waiting for ... :)

This CPU tops out an intel core 2 duo running at 3.6GHZ standing on it's head. insane. this little CPU does over 3500 on the passmark website. you can do a lot with this archetecture. I'd like get one and build a couple of little boxes and install FLStudio and my audio apps on it to use in audio production. You could even use them to run Cockos, and a few extra on the side to use as nodes for processing special FX through it's distributed processing framework.

Thank you for the awesome video. I like how quickly it was turning into a quine, and you felt the need to stop because of the oddity of it. I definitely am impressed at one level at how we've gotten all the important components down to such a small size, and USB 3.0 is definitely fast enough for external storage. I've also seen gaming benchmarks for the LattePanda on other channels which make me think it's more than enough for older games (2012 and earlier, maybe?) or even some newer games on lower settings.
Having said all that, I'd still take a full computer I can upgrade. I'm eagerly awaiting when ARM might catch up to the range of the LattePanda in cpu/gpu performance while still being substantially cheaper. I imagine that point might be 5+ years away, though. Maybe by then the x86 line will have moved forward substantially instead of mostly stalling--I'm glad AMD has pushed Intel to up its game, but there's a lot of non-multitasking friendly stuff that could use something other than more cores. Anyways, enough with my rambling. Thanks again for all your efforts.

Quite amazing that this little thing can do all the things it does. I am not an old man by any means but it wasnt too long before I was born that a computer with a fraction of this computing power would take up a whole room. Wont be long before our watches will be able to edit videos and mine for crypto currencies

An ODROID XU4 is a very nice SBC. One will be back on the channel here in February in a review of media playback on different SBCs.

@@ExplainingComputers that's what I was thinking. Since the Odroid XU4 is an octo core system, I'm guessing that it does a good job for a compact content creating and consuming platform.

There's also the Unigine benchmarks for Linux, I usually use those when I want to stress my GPU.

The LattePanda Alpha is awesome!! :) Asrock made a Desk Mini STX motherboard for Ryzen CPUs and I think I will get that instead and use it with an eGPU for the ultimate SFF PC. Can't wait!!

    15:50 "GTA 1030"
Aha, that's where the gamer was hiding!
PS: No worries, it's just a temporary side effect from playing GTA in long sessions.

lattepanda is very similar to intel compute stick, lattepanda has more upgrade options, but compute stick is more user friendly and easy to use :)

Marco Reps reviewed this on his channel and was able to use an NVMe to PCIe adapter and mounted his latte panda alpha on top of an upside down GTX2080 (using external power of course). It worked.

ideal future would be for the SBC form factors to standardize, so that one could mix parts like an old PC, but in a laptop format. A bit like the raspberry pi laptops one can buy, but ready to take SBC's of a variety of performance levels. A standard would use only USB-C (no A ports), and you could go cheap and have a raspberry pi laptop, or go expensive and latte panda alpha style. costs go down, repairability goes up, good for the environment, security could improve (some people would make boards with fewer binary blobs and management engines.) another swappable component, if the size could be standardized, would be the keyboard. I love and use mechanical ones with long travel, but others might prefer cheaper ones. display quality and battery size could vary also.
I have a pi-top, and it's sort of the right idea, but it could be so much more if the industry could coalesce on a single SBC-based laptop form-factor.

Time will come when SBCs will handle 4k@60fps. Not today though. Also, Netflix should run, as well others like Amazon video etc for people into it. The niche for home computing and movie consumption is to be yet filled imo. SBCs are developer / interfacing targeted, and striping that out could lower the end price considerably, if demand rises accordingly.

It's really quite a capable machine. I'm planning to put one in a small case and behind a screen for a cheapo all-in-one PC.
