Arthas is the classic saying of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" made manifest. He would have done anything for his people. He grew up with a complex that thirsted for acknowledgement from his betters, namely his father and Uther, and was somewhat arrogant in his abilities and quick to temper - in one novel he had told Jaina to not deny him anything. He was always a good person until the events in WC3 - as per a letter sent from Uther "Arthas loves his people very much. We recently visited some of the poorer villages outside of Lordaeron, giving healing to those in need. I wanted to test his healing powers, as well as see how he interacted with his people beyond the wealthy nobles in the city. He was full of pity for these people, weeping for a woman who had lost her leg in a wolf attack. After healing her pain, he set out on horseback, searching for the wolf. He slew three, bringing the pelts back to the woman to serve as her blankets. I was touched, but again, a little alarmed at his singlemindedness. She was grateful, and as we were there to serve the wounded and sick, our work was completed".
Everything he did was not completely and/or entirely evil or can it be argued as such. In his mind, hunting down Mal'Ganis for the lives he has taken and for the lives he will take was good of a reason as any (anyone would have known or could have known at the time, Medivh aside). Every single event leading up to his ascension as the Lich King was orchastrated and he was manipulated to the very end. But it was released and widely accepted that Arthas 'died' picking up Frostmourne; his soul was the first stolen that we can see. You cannot really say that all atrocities commited by the Lich King was completely Arthas, he was just there to witness the horror for the most part. Plus in HoR, it is revealed that Arthas' remaining humanity and goodness is what is preventing the Scourge from going on some unholy crusade to destroy everything.
Arthas' story remains one of the best stories in Warcraft lore and I hope they do it, and him, justice.

THIS!! Not enough people understand the story of Warcraft III from this prespective. They're quick to blame Arthas for his hubris and pride. Granted, during the invasion in Northrend, Arthas acted in a villanous notion, but it was motivated in the single minded goal: Defeat Malganis. To Arthas, nothing else mattered at that point, not even the lives of his men. Malganis had spread the plague of undeath. Malganis had forced his hand to cull Stratholme. Arthas was broken during the culling. The invasion of Northrend solidified him. There is a saying: "Heavy is the head that wears the crown." Also remember that Tichondrious tells Arthas himself, that the runeblade feasted on Arthas's soul first and fore most.

Arthas was always a good person and a strong Paladin who served the Light until he got corrupted by the idea of vengeance down the line.
The path he took to try and stop Mal'Ganis who he thought was responsible for the Scourge and the death of his people, is what led him to pick up the cursed blade Frostmourne which slowly consumed him. The action itself was noble since all he did was to try and save his kingdom.
He even states that he would do anything, even picking up a cursed blade, if that meant the salvation of Lordaeron.
We can all assume that the curse and the constant whispers of Ner'zhul made him lose track of his original goals and himself.
Even after he fell down the path of righteousness and became the Lich King, the remnants of his soul/being still held back the Scourge quite a lot from destroying Azeroth. If his intentions were total annihilation, I think he would have let the undead roam free.
Not saying he was good as the LK, which he was not. I'm just saying you can't judge someone's soul like it was 1+1=2 since there are a lot of factors to consider.
To be honest, I think this was serious considering he was never judged and might have not even been assigned to the Maw but another place for his redemption which I feel like he deserves.

I was in a guild called 'Uther's Revenge'. Ironically, it was in WotLK that I was in said guild. So long ago now was it. It was fun, until it imploded due to GM bouncing in favor of joining another guild that was trying to clear ICC before anyone else on the server.
Not sure if I'm gonna play this expac. The last couple have been fairly boring for me. Not the best at PvP and not really interested in the PvE or the lore.
I'll probably concentrate on finishing my new PC build before I make my overall choice. Current one can barely handle Horrific Visions without the fans trying to take off for the moon. Maybe playing on a system that doesn't have to be set to graphic setting '1' will do something for the immersion factor. Or the fun factor.

I wonder if Uther would have been able to forgive Arthas if his soul was not damaged. In the Frostmourne stab flashback you see how the light side of his soul flies off to the Shadowlands while the darker part of his soul enters Frostmourne. Bluether's and Devos' actions makes me think of the zealous Yrel and lightforged draenei. Also Xe'ra. And I might be looking a bit too much into it, but doesn't the light and dark glow of the soul kinda perfectly resemble the azerite particle effect?
