This was absolutely great. Im a local ocean county guy just getting into surf fishing... Had a clue but feel much more educated after this video. Thank you great job
Great video. Thanks for the info. I’m learning how to fish on my own in my mid 40s. Videos like these help make that possible! Keep the great content coming.
So happy we could help! We love fishing and want to help and encourage as many people as we can to join in the sport with us! Thanks for watching!
Probably the best video I've watched, learning everything I was doing wrong and how and why to do it correctly from line setup, bait, casting and final setting of the hook. Thanks for posting
Thank you so much for your kind words! We are glad you enjoyed the video! Tight lines this season!
Awesome tutorial for shore fishing them big old stripers..New territory for me.
Thanks for your kind words! Tight lines!
Great tutorial. As a young boy I learned by trial and error and always kept my eyes and ears open for info. I was also one for casting to England! Thanks to Bayside Dave for your time and inside info and tips that every surf fisherman wants to know. Good job Jersey Boys! I’ll be out there again this season, hopefully with reports of my own. Tight lines.
Hey Dennis, thank you so much for your kind words! We always appreciate your support! Good luck this season and we look forward to hearing from you!
Excellent video and very very informative...thank you both for sharing this video,
I been looking for a tutorial video like this for a long time to have the knowledge and confidence to surf fish and finally found it! Awesome job guys hope to run into you out there!!
We're happy to hear this video is going to help you get out there on the surf. Best of luck to you and hopefully we'll see you out there some day!
Guys, so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Hey thank you for watching! We really appreciate the support!
Great video, guys. Lots of good tips and info. Thanks so much for the stickers and note of encouragement. It was much appreciated. Keep up the great work, brother.
No problem! Thank you for all your support!
Always loved surf fishing but live in PA. Unfortunately I would just walk down and throw out a line. Now that I am retired I have been trying to get more knowledgeable about reading the surf, baits, rigs. Your videos are perfect! All of the others I have found are from Florida, Australia etc. Thanks SO much! Can not wait to get down and put it into practice!
Thanks for watching Rodger! Best of luck on the water!!
That man was dropping pure knowledge.
Excellent Video. I'm going to refer to this video when I gear up in the spring to tackle the South LI shore!
Hey Marcus, Thanks for watching! We really appreciate the support! Best of luck this upcoming season.
I have to be honest I've been fishing since I was a child and I'm almost 40 as far as circle hooks go I've been using them for years and I feel like I've learned so much watching this video thank you.
I used to live on the beach and I live down the road from one when it comes to setting the hook I think I know why I lost a few thank you again for the advice.
Thank you for your kind words! We’re glad this video was able to help. Hopefully you’ll be able to have more success! Tight lines!
I’d love to get in on the fall striper run, but alas, we head down the shore in mid-summer. I’ve caught schoolie bass in the bay, but I’ve never pulled one out of the surf. Seasonally speaking, I’m stuck catching blues, fluke, kingfish, dogfish and skates out of the surf. I don’t mind the “trash”, I’m just thankful for the opportunity to surfcast. As long as my rod is bent, I really don’t care what’s on the end of my line. Get out there and rip ‘em this fall! Don’t take it for granted. Take it from me- the landlocked guy in CO wishing he could be there during the fall run!
Hey Duke, thank you for watching! I'm with you on that, I don't care to much what is on the other end as long as it's bending my rod. Great reminder though to not take what we have for granted. It can get very easy to always think the grass is green somewhere else.
Great tutorial!Covered it all.I'm in So. CALIF. New to surf fishing and never had tie line explained .XLNT.
Great job explaining all aspects of how to fish for stripers, especially on how to read the water to know where to fish. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and commenting! We are happy to hear you found the video useful!
Ty for sharing your experience and knowledge, great tips 👍 😊
Thank you for watching! We appreciate your support!
I've watched tons of videos but this was the most thorough and conclusive video on how to surf fish properly. The only thing I need to buy now is some tie line to secure the chunk bait to the hook.
The only thing is like to see is a video on how to clean and oil your gear after surf fishing.
The best tutorial! I’m looking for this because I’d like to start surf fishing this season! Thank you!!!
Hey were happy you found us then! Thank you for your kind words and best of luck on the water this season!
Amazing video and channel my friend♥️🤗. Wish You all the best♥️

Joe Giunta here, this was a very enjoyable video, Dave, I learned a couple of things from you, I have been fishing the surf/bays since 1982 and I never stop learning. I hope to see you one day on the water Dave, love to fish with you.

Great informative video. Thank you for putting this together for a newbie like me. Just started surf fishing here in Ocean County NJ and still have lots to learn. Caught 3 skates today and it was unpleasant getting cut up from its barbs. Next time I will use gloves. Looking forward to catching real fish not just skates.
Hey Brian, thank you for watching! Dave really knows his stuff when it comes to surf fishing! We learned a ton from him as well! Keep at it and best of luck on the water!
OUTSTANDING video I learned so much.
Hey thanks for watching! We’re glad to hear that you learned something from it. Tight lines this season!
Only need to use circle hooks for stripers when fishing natural baits. Also make sure that when using bunker that there are no scales on the point of the hook.
Both good points. I did forget to mention about only using them while using natural baits. Thanks for the reminders!
Great information, nice job!!! Thanks
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you. Excellent vid!
Thank you for watching!
Great video, so detail, thank you guys.
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Best of luck this season!
Excellent advice!! Thank you!
Thank you for watching David! Tight lines!
Another good tip i learned for finding holes (im on lbi too) is walk the beach and look for areas where washed up shells are larger than the other spots, thats typically a hole too. Great video so glad i found this!
Hey that's a great tip! Thank you for sharing! We appreciate the support!
I don't think a better surf fishing tutorial video exists. In two weeks will be my first surf fishing outing and this told me literally everything I need to know, to feel prepared.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Best of luck on the surf and let us know how you do!
Excellent and informative video Thanks!

Hey thank you so much for your kind words! Best of luck on the water!
Great learning video
I'm not a bait guy, I often wondered many things about using bait and more specifically using a sand spike. To say this was very informative would be an understatement. Hopefully I can leave my comfort zone of north/central jersey and hit LBI this weekend.

Wow, thank you for your kind words and support! Best of luck out on the water!!
Dave and Surf City Bait n Tackle are the best

@@tubbyguyoutdoors Good to hear man! I've missed seeing your videos!
I have only ventured up to the NJ beaches once so far, and I was wondering which parts or streets of LBI are "Better" to check out than others? and what parts of the year in conjunction with location? Thanks
awesome video !!! thanks
Awesome freaking video learned so much
Hey thanks so much for watching!
Great job, appreciate the tutorial
Thank you for watching and commenting! It means alot to us!
How do you determine when to use a fishfinder rig or a hi lo rig, they are both made for the same applications. I use the hi lo rig when I go down south but always a Carolina fish finder here in New England, I wonder why that is.
Nice video. LBI is one of my favorite spots. I live almost an hour away. Shout out to Surf City Bait N Tackle. You can call them in the middle of the night, they will happily come down stairs and treat you like it's 9::00 am. Nice people
Hey Aaron, thank you for watching! Good to know about Surf City! Best of luck on the water this year!
Do you tie your braid directly to your leader rig or do you run some mono from braid to your swivel?
great information guys
Thank you Coffey!
Nice T-knots on that high/low rig. 😉👍 I don’t see many people do that.
You should really mention taping your index finger or wearing a casting glove with that braid. I fear that there will be a lot of novice fisherman who watched this getting rushed to the hospital with a 1/2 severed index finger because they casted with braid without any finger protection.
That's a good point. I did think about that during the making of the video but forgot to mention it. At some point we may do a video about how to make the rigs, so I will be able to mention it then. thanks for watching!
Great tip with the bait elastic. It's commonly used for sea fishing over here in Western Europe but I never saw anyone use it when I lived in Delaware. Simple thing that makes a huge difference whe you're not slinging baits off with every cast
Yeah, its tough to catch a fish with nothing on the hook...lol Thanks for watching from across the pond!
Just curious, how do you set the hook on a circle hook when you have the rod in a rod holder on the beach. Do you set the drag really loose and let the fish run for a little bit, then tighter the drag, and reel fast while still in the rod holder to set the hook? Or do you tighten the drag and leave it in the rod holder for the fish to set the hook by itself? Or lastly, do you leave the drag tight, pick the rod out of the holder and side sweep to hook the fish? Thank you in advance for the advice
"The guts and everything." "Beautiful." 😜 Man I love LBI in September. Great job on the tutorial!! 👍
Lol yeah that was a great shot! LBI is beautiful! Thanks for watching Dug!
Amazing amazing amazing video!
Hey thank you for watching!
What’s a good wind speed to go fishing ?
Great commentary thanks
Thank you for watching! Best of luck this season!
Do you put the fish finder on the braid or the leader?
You put the fish finder on the braid that way the fish can run as far as they want and never feel any resistance. Thank you for watching!
You just earned a subscriber !
Thank you for that! We really appreciate it!
I have a place in LBI it’s been rough on the beach past couple of years. Hopefully this fall will be good. I caught a 30lb striper from the boat in the Long Island sound a few days ago water temp was 82 in the sound. Calm conditions at dusk. Tight lines 🙏🙏
That's a monster for this time of year!! Hopefully this year will be better for you from the surf! Thanks for watching and tight lines!!!
@@jerseyboysoutdoors I know last year sucked in Long Island too as well as LBI. Tons of bluefish around 7-10lbs here in Long Island . Stripers have slowed as the water temp and outdoor temps dropped. Idk.
Isn't that hole exactly where a rip current is likely to form? So I would think it would carry the rig further out to where the current would spread out?
That's some fun happening there
Setting up for a good time! Thank you for watching!
I caught a speckled trout for the first time out with this rod. I like that it's a one piece pole and not two.
Bayside! Great video, I always learn something from you! What do you recommend for waders??
He has a pair of Simms. He said they are the best. They are a little pricey but will last and are very comfortable! Thank you for watching!
great video - Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
God bless always and good fishing!
Thank you so much! God Bless!
any suggestions how to keep the crabs away from the chunk bait?
What tsunami rod are you using???
Great video
Thank you for watching! Best of luck this season!
Excellent!
Thanks for watching!
Would you recommend a live liner reel so you wouldn’t have to play wit( the drag?
Yes, if you have a live liner reel that would be great. I really like using them for catfishing, and they would be just as effective for stripers.
GREAT. Thanks
Thank you so much for watching!
Im new to fishing and was wondering what type of bait I should through in the summer?
Hey thanks for watching! So if your going for stripers through the summer clam is probably going to be your best bet. However the best time to catch stripers is in the spring or fall. The general rule of thumb for cut bait is clam in the spring and bunker in the fall. Best of luck to you and keep an eye on our weekly reports to see what is working and where the fish are being caught.
Hay boys, spent years living in Florida (Tampa bay). Returned back to jersey shore to be close to water in Barnegat. Retired in my 70s but want to start surf fishing from LBI. Don't want your honey spots; good spots are like gold, I know this, but would appreciate a starting point. LBI is a big beach, and I have old legs. North off the bridge, or south? Anyway we can meet or talk?
You should also do a video on Surfcasting with Lures
That is something we are talking about now. We will hopefully be getting that out in the next couple weeks. Thank you for watching!
very informative
Thanks for watching! We hope it will help you on the surf!
Great video i live close to LBI can anyone access that area one time i drove by and the beach was private
There are private areas, but 19th is open to the public. Thank you for watching!
Doesn’t braid need different knots than filament for tying hooks and leaders?
My favorite simple knot to use is the uni not. Its great for any type of line and its simple. We have a video on our channel on how to tie it if you want to check it out. Thanks for watching!
@@jerseyboysoutdoors thank you. I will look for it.
I wish the surf fishing videos would show where the rig actually lands in the surf by using some kind of marker like a arrow as a example
Yeah, I'm sure that's something that can be done. We just don't have the technology to do that yet. Thanks for watching!
