Car AC works by creating a cool space inside the cabin.It removes the heat from inside.
The main components of car AC are compressor-that compress the refrigerant, condenser- it transforms the state of the refrigerant from gas to liquid by removing heat with the help of fan, receiver dryer-it filters the refrigerant and allow only the liquid refrigerant to pass through it , removing foreign particles and moisture, Expansion valve-it transforms the high pressure refrigerant to low pressure one and decide the quantity of refrigerant passing through it ,and Evaporator is the last major component-it is the cooling space of the cabin,in this stage the liquid refrigerant change it state to gas thus creating a cool space.
Nowadays we use r134a as the refrigerant because of its low boiling point -26°C.It is eco friendly and non toxic.And above all it transforms its stage quickly.
Car AC and mileage.
The AC powers itself using the engine which puts an extra load on the engine making it use more fuel. However, in a small speed frame, it will consume less fuel than running the car with windows down.

Simply ( but powerful)explained refrigeration and air conditioning cycle
In all refrigeration and air conditioning appliances same principle using for cool
You are so brilliant and also a good Teacher..

We can reduce the mileage short in a simple way
1 set the temperature control and fan speed at medium and make sure its works properly ( cut in and cut off)
2 clean the condenser regularly
3 make sure the windows closed properly
4 switch off the Ac by manually while climbing the hill roads for few minutes.
5 make sure that there is no leak or shortage of refrigerant gas in your system
If there is a leak compressor will not cut
off and it will run continuously with Engine that reduces your engine life and consume more fuel ..

Excellent demonstration. Very useful and lot of informative. However there is a minute mistake. Hot and cold are just human sensational feelings. Heat transfer from high temperature level to low temperature level. For example both -15 degree Celsius and -25 degree Celsius are cold with respect to human body temperature. If our body temperature is 37 degree Celsius even 30 degree Celsius is cold. Hold an ice cube for 30 seconds and immediately catch a body with temperature 30 degree Celsius, you feel hotness.
