  • I am not a professional by any means. I am just trying to prevent the damage to the existing driveway by temporarily patching in the holes and filling in the areas until we can afford to have it repaved.

    It would be better to dig another inch and fill it with gravel, then compact the gravel and then put the patch on it.

      Thank you. For a patch, it really does work well. The ones I did a few years back are very solid. Holding until we can afford to have the driveway repaved anyway.

    Guess I'm just lucky...few years ago the county dumped a whole truck load of new hot asphalt in their pile of millings that wasn't up to snuff (it seems not much aggregate besides sand). Anyway it is hard as a rock but I put down 3 inches of millings on an area of dirt, went out and got chunk after chunk of the "good stuff" but had to break it up when I got home. Put 3 inches or so of that oily stuff on top. Used a tamper, then 55 gallons of sealer on the entire driveway. 4 car to 6 spots and it's holding up through a colorado high country winter. Free, but too much work!

      @TrekFanNCC-1701  Před 11 měsíci

      Sounds like it was. I'm glad it is holding up. Especially with the prices to have it done these days.

    My edges are crumbling to uneven line, what should I do? reduce the driveway and plant grass or add asphalt trying to get a straight line again?

    • @TrekFanNCC-1701
      @TrekFanNCC-1701  Před rokem +2

      Well, I have the same problems in areas. Keep in mind, this is only intended to be a patch until professional repairs can be done. But to keep the asphalt from crumbling further I dug a straight line in the dirt to hold the asphalt patch then filled in the dirt once the patch material was in. Sorry, I wish I could be of further help. Best of luck.

      What product do you recommend for spider cracks? Every year we get new ones, I am so tired of fixing them - nothing really last.
      Using the sealer two coats should be enough to maintain the asphalt driveway, right?

    • @peleger1
      @peleger1 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @SofiNme365 I bought a big square of the melting tar the pros use. It's a bit hard to get it hot enough to pour and not get burned. I was making a mess then I figured out hammering it breaks it into pieces. I put the pieces in and close to the crack. Weed burner melted it nicely.
