The company is trying to avoid a lawsuit and accepting responsibility
Bingo! After lying about what really happened to that man, they’re in even more trouble now. The family’s attorney will find out what really happened and this shipping company is going to be sorry for lying to the family.
Did they have a *company hit squad?*
@Cass, Even if they dont tell the truth they would still have a wrongful death suit I believe.
I sure hope justice will be served@@laurenurban3942
Allegedly, the fact that the Company could be withholding vital information as they have gone silent on the subject, probably preventing workers from speaking out as well, makes them look pretty suspicious. Were there any cameras positioned around where this occurred? My heart goes out to his family and i hope they find the truth asap. ** this is my opinion only and alleged **
The crane operator and ground crew supervising the move all saw exactly what happened and are silent about it, which calls into question blood alcohol content, urinalysis, rigging certification, crane operator certification, unsafe practices...
That shipyard is hiding liability and now it is up to the crane operator's and riggers' characters--- how they were brought up--- to do the right thing and come forward with the truth.
I worked at South West in San Diego for 6months (1991 or so). Laborer, then inside machinist, then outside machinist. Inside machinist was safe, had a great boss, learned a lot. Outside machinists, working on ships, was a little sketchy sometimes. Biggest takeaway was the blatant waste of gov't money due to the lack professionalism of workers. I was actually told by my boss to take a nap on the job. "We'll hear anyone coming down those stairs a mile away." That was my first day on graveyard shift w/ a new boss.
I had some minimal welding experience at the time and thought maybe I'd pursue welding at the ship yard. An old timer pulled me aside and highly suggested I do not pursue welding at a ship yard, b/c of the dangers, and general atmosphere of not following safety protocols... "you will get blown up or more likely, you'll die in 20 yrs of lung disease from breathing fumes in all the poorly ventilated compartments you'll be welding in."
I didn't wanna quit, though I soon was laid off after the ship yard I worked at failed to get contracts for the next few ships coming in. No job security, shitty conditions, glad that all worked out the way it did.
Workers comp is a joke 😮...
Why would they? They would be looking at decades in prison for this .
Workers comp IS a joke. My relative got electrocuted when he was an apprentice high voltage linesman because he was told something was depowered (and it wasn't). The supervisor called his father to say as much because he is an Electrical Safety inspector so knows this world. But when the lawyers got involved it suddenly became the apprentice's fault. It made no sense to anyone. The kid was lucky to be alive, but they (Orangeville Hydro) were absolute see you next Tuesdays about the whole thing. Being in a union/Workers comp means you can't sue for negligence, but they will give you some time off, maybe place you in another job and give you some limited therapy. Scam. Workers should not take ANY RISKS. @@cliftonbowers6376
Its called a union. Its all fraternity until interests hit. Welcome to why socialism doesn't work lol.
Just today, as a Paramedic, I had a guy fall from a 30 foot ladder. He was alert and oriented with no critical injuries. Something is very fishy in that shipyard. Let the truth come out! Prayers to this family going through this difficult. May he rest in eternal peace. 🙏
yea but 61% of fatal falls happen at less than 20 feet. 19% of fatal falls happen at 30 feet. its more fishy that the dude u saw was fine than the other way around u witnessed a 1 in 10,000 event and are using that as the standard.
I am a Health and Safety Specialist with two Master's Degrees and there is no way you get hurt that bad falling from a 6-8 foot ladder. You would not get injured like that unless you had serious stuff dropped on you. This is WILLFUL AND KNOWING violation of OSHA by gross falsification of injury reports, which is a FELONY. This means HUGE Fines and Lawsuits and Executives GO TO JAIL! Keep digging because someone needs to be held responsible. You cannot cover up workplace injuries like this anymore! There are cameras everywhere and I bet someone knows where they are, and if the recordings were erased.
you got all that from a 2:51 min video?
@@hercflyerYep.. A crane was probably involved but the height of the object was low or maybe a lateral motion crushing him against something..
Definitely not a ladder fall, injuries sound like he was crushed between two objects to me.
lol having two degrees doesn't make you an emergency room doctor and expert of jobsite injuries. You stuck it out in school studying math, english and astrology and maybe got an osha cert along the way but I seriously doubt it, as two masters degrees typically indicates you've never stepped foot onto a jobsite and you never intend to, and most likely have never even been on a ladder in a commercial environment
It’s pretty hard to prove that the executives led the cover-up, assuming there is one to begin with.
You don’t receive those types of injuries from falling off a 7 foot ladder. He had way too many injuries for it to be that. The brother said someone told him they dropped something on top of him. Hopefully, their attorney gets to the bottom of this and that company tells the truth about what happened to his brother. This unacceptable for an employee to be injured at work like this. That many injuries were not caused by a 7 foot ladder. No way. My prayers to his family and his brother.
Franky the canolli king of long island got a hold of him
But why would they even try to cover it up unless they think they can get away with it.
Pretty sure this shipyard is unionized and that in itself is a big part of the problem. Strong arming. Threat tactics. Don’t eat out anybody. If so and so goes down we all go down.
There is no similar paying job as such.
This is the outcome.
@@f430ferrari5 If it's unionized then the union leader should've already made a statement.
yea thanks captain obvious we watched the video you WACKO JOB!
Maybe he got beat up by immigrants
I've fallen down a flight of cement stairs, I've fallen off a 16-foot ladder, I did not receive anything like this. It looks/sounds like a crushing incident.
Yeah, all that happens when you fall off a ladder is you get up, kick a few things, swear loudly and then you're fine. Speaking from personal experience.
@@stenh.6243 Yeah, I mean things CAN go wrong and injuries can be worse… but the extent of these injuries? The amount of injuries to different body parts? Unless he “fell” off the ladder 50 times, it’s really hard to believe…
You should avoid heights
Those injuries are consistent with being struck by a vehicle at 50 MPH or higher. 9.8 m/s^2 = 32.1522 feet per second squared. 50 MPH is 73.3 feet per second. So a minimum of two seconds or greater than 60 ft falling before striking an object (like something sticking out of the drydock floor).
A lot of people in the comments here have never taken ladder safety training and have no idea how quickly and how badly you can hurt yourself especially as you get up in age.
So many dumb points in the comments - falling off a ladder yourself doesn't make you an expert.
- there is no reason so assume that a person who falls off a ladder a) lands well b) didn't git anything on the way down and c) would need someone else to drop something on him -why wouldn't it be more likely he dropped something on himself - hes already falling.
And finally, sure more deaths happen on tall ladders IN GENERAL, but over a certain age you see short ladders hurt and kill far far more often and that's not because people get impervious to large ladders. It's because these men start to sense that if they so much as lose their balance and tip over a bench or low lying object and flip over on their head they could easily crush their own collarbone spine and set of ribs, so they stay off tall ladders. Go ask an ER worker if they haven't seen gruesome injuries in old people from simple things that would shock the majority of people, i saw a lady whose ribs would break if she sneezed.
The brother absolutely broke my heart. I’m so, so sorry for everything that family is going through. Being stonewalled and denied closure is brutal and unimaginable.
As a longtime resident of the Tidewater area, I am well aware of the dangers of working in a shipyard. I hope his family gets answers and closure soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
The sorrow in Roy's voice when he talks about his brother is heartbreaking. I hope this family finds what they need and gets some closure if possible. RIP Kenny
I agree. You feel that.
💔😪🙏💙
Thank you❤😢
😢
Yea I have 4 siblings so I get it. His voice broke my heart. 🤍
As a former nurse I absolutely agree! This is NOT from a ladder fall! Honey, I lost my brother too and you just never get over it. I'm so, so sorry.
Everybody needs to get over deaths and move on with their lives. Not saying you forget, but you have to move on. I have a cousin who lost their daughter at age 11 due to severe diabetes. This was nearly 15 years ago now and they have other children to worry about, but they still put a lot of focus on the one that died. I find it pathetic and ridiculous when they have other children that need their full attention. Spend your time with the living, not the dead.
@@MotoAtheistthe problem here is that the stated mechanism of injury, fall from a ladder, doesn’t match up with the injuries this man had. This makes it suspicious and the family has every right to push for answers.
@@MotoAtheist What a cold-hearted, unempathetic, cruel comment. You sound like either a pampered, arrogant kid, who has never had to deal with the death of a loved person, or like a stone-cold narcissist. You will make your own experience with sorrow and grief eventually, if you ever come to love someone else more than yourself. Shame on you!
At these places 8 out of 10 employees are functional drug addicts or functional alcoholics, people work by contract, everyone comes and goes, all kinds of riff raff and these shipyard owners never take responsibility for anything... I used to work with my brother in law just to watch his back for the same reason, because accidents can be avoided if there's someone with you, also to watch the tools so they don't get stolen or someone coming behind him to cut him .
@@melissajaimes9010 Where did I say they should not investigate? I was responding to the "never get over it" aspect and the example I gave was somebody still grieving after 15 years. Of course everyone initially grieves for awhile and for sure they need to get to the bottom of what happened. I swear, it's like nobody can comprehend on the internet, ever.
It’s really tough to talk about what happened to your dead loved one. Cheers to the guy who spoke through tears like a man and kept it together enough to deliver his message.
Absolutely heartbreaking! People need to do the right thing & come forward! Prayers for this family.
Died from negligence and probably getting crushed but company wants to avoid responsibility. Hope the family finds out what really happened.
If he was crushed, your muscles will produce a toxic chemical that would be in your liver and blood stream. Any autopsy would discover that easily.

It’s a shipyard dude it’s dangerous everywhere. Company can’t hold your hand every second of the day

Unfit crane, hoist, improper training. Something. It was not a simple ladder fall.

yeah those are exactly the injuries you get from 3 big guys kicking you into the concrete for about a minute in steel toe boots.
Like precisely the same injuries, down to the double brain lesion.
and where my dads friend worked at the docks, they always sent exactly 3 guys to put you in the hospital when you refused to join the union/quit.
He got lucky cause they were having a problem one day, so it was just one guy who tried to crush his legs with a forklift inside a box truck, but he jumped high enough to clear the pallet stack and quit immediately. retaining his skull shape and legs.
Shame, shame, shame on the people that are not speaking on what happened!! This is such a tragedy! God bless the family and loved ones
May Justice be properly served.
To me, it is obvious that the shipyard is trying desperately to distance themselves from liability over a very horrible accident. I guarantee that with further investigation, the truth will eventually come out... most likely, the death was the result of something far worse than falling from a ladder, and more like injuries sustained form a very large, heavy object dropped from above in a crushing blow.
Yeah they said that in the video.
Shipyard work is dangerous.. I know someone this happened too many years ago and the family was paid millions of dollars because of negligence
He could have fallen and received those injuries if a load had a strap break and the load swung knocking him off the ladder..imagine getting hit by a semi with a over sized load on the trailer. That's what it would be like to be hit by even the lifting equipment. The Spreader Bar has to hold up thousands of tons alone. It goes on the end of the winch line holding up a load being lifted.
@@chriscordray8572that not a fall from a later. It's blunt force trauma and then a fall from a later..
@@chriscordray8572If that strap breaks, it's on the inspector who failed to see stress tears. That, or they were lifting too heavy a load; either of which are preventable if people did their job. There's not many situations where the shipyard wouldn't be liable for a preventable death.
They killed him
There is no way you will ever get answers
You need to sue them
I'm inclined to agree with you. We know right up front he didn't get those injuries from a ladder fall. From the descriptions of the injuries it sounds similar to a brutal attack. Praying that the truth comes out and if the company is caught covering it up the highest authority that knew about it goes behind bars.
I pray they get an honest investigation into this. No one should have this happen on any job. The family deserves answers not a run around.
My condolences and prayers to this man's family and friends.
My daddy fell from a 2-story building working, thats 18-20 feet from the ground. And he didn't have close to any of these injuries! 😢 Sending prayers for the family 🙏🏽
OSHA stats show way more people are injured on 6 ft step ladders than on 20 or 40 ft ones. People get killed and paralyzed all the time on them just depends on how you land. The bigger issue is people tend to get reckless on smaller ladders and do stupid stuff like stand on the very top of a 6 ft. step.
@johno1544 this definitely was not a ladder accident.
@@christopheroakey6852 oh and what evidence do you have of that? You seen the accident scene? Gone over the OSHA report? Know this guys medical history? Or do you just have a feeling?

I work at this shipyard for three weeks they should close this place down they got weird people working there i quit after the three weeks
I often pass by after I get off wrk and they are getting off too. Is there a lot of crack heads that wrk there?
My ex husband worked there for exactly three weeks. He said it was dangerous. And he was a drunk. If he felt that way it must have been really bad
Wow really? That's creepy.
I worked there and it was a complete nightmare fully equipped with crackheads, junkies, felons, and lowlifes. One day when we were told to do some drywall maintenance in a men's locker room we found a used syringe in a hole in the bathroom wall. There was also another guy in my shop who used to wear long sleeves in the summer to cover up his trackmarks. I used to stick up for him because he never bothered me, but my coworker straight called him out one day for being shady ironnically right as we rolled up on him spray painting bikes behind the shop. Im so sorry for your loss. Its heartbreaking 💔! 😢
I fell 8 feet from our roof. The ladder slipped out from under my feet and I landed on my back on top of the ladder. It hurt so much I couldn't cuss, I couldn't breathe for a minute or so. But I didn't break anything. On the way down, all I could think about was "I'm not going to be able to run in the marathon next month". My daughter was outside on the other side of the house and heard me land on the deck. My neighbor was inside his house and heard me land on the deck. Both of them ran over to check on me. I thank the good Lord for watching over me.
single story falls arent fatal. nothing to do with god
@@nomercyinc6783 they can be if you fall on the wrong spot. A guy died at the river by my house because he dove head first into 3 feet of shallow water and broke his neck.
That's a crush injury. A fall from that height doesn't make any sense from an anatomical standpoint. I hope the family gets answers.
I agree
Prayers to you and your family. Sorry for your loss
Obviously crushing injuries. Why even try to cover up if you're that bad at lying? Management needs jail just for that lie.
I have fallen from ladders while building houses., 10+ feet, lost my balance and had to jump from second floor to avoid mess we were tearing off too. Al I got was a few scratches. I did miss my step once when on back of truck and cracked a rib when I hit the ground. My foreman's brother got paralyzed when he fell from porch roof. Sounds like he had MANY MULTIPLE impacts. Something doesn't seem to add up. All of 11 broken ribs, 2 fractures on spine, CRUSHED collarbone, bruises on CHEST, NECK and BACK? Sounds like he fell from a couple of stories and hit everything on the way down! I'd be checking EVERY camera on that site!!
Sounds like they dropped something on him and again and again 😮
He probably got hit by a timber or a swinging load. A Speader Bar for lifting loads can support thousands of pounds. And if one strap broke, it would cause the load to shift and possibly swing. Imagine getting hit by thousands of pounds from a swinging load knocking you off ur ladder 🪜 it would be like you got hit by a semi. These exact kinds of injuries. Or he had a support timber fall hit him and take him to the ground. He's done if it's from 8 foot. Imagine a railroad tie dropped from 8 foot onto a person, both hitting the steel deck of a Dry Dock. Same kind of injuries.
I agree
What if he was on one of those scaffolds things? They have iron bars going across and if you slip, you can easily bounce around in there as you fall even from what would be considered a minor fall.
@@Dan-di9jd With his injuries, that was not a minor fall
In my estimation one of two things happened: 1) He was the victim of some sort of attack, and thrown off something or 2) Something was indeed dropped on him. Their attorney will get to the bottom of it. Lawyers use their own Private Investigators who are usually very good at obtaining the truth, facts, interviews, etc…. I’m surprised the police are not involved in this. IMO this is a criminal matter.

@@91foxbodyplaya47 don't listen to that guy. An unknown assailant brutally shot and killed my brother when he was 21. He was the youngest of seven children and his death nearly tore our tight-knit family apart. The violent manner of his death, the absence of any trial or any justice, and the large size of our family were all factors in making the grieving process uniquely difficult and my parents hired professional counselors to help us overcome his death. I’ve worked in the trades since the 80’s. If you’re the family on the tragic side of this don’t sign anything they give you. Risk management is there to screw you over. I’ve seen a lot of “accidents” like this over the years where the family got nothing
The good thing is that it falls under 3 federal agencies. OSHA will be one of 4 that can investigate this accident. HS, DOT, AND THE PORT AUTHORITY all has jurisdiction over the ports.
