Nothe Fort is a mid-19th century fort located in Weymouth, UK. It's known for its haunted tunnels, which are said to be the site of a few unexplained occurrences. This video is the perfect way to experience the fort and its spooky tunnels. So beware, this is not for the faint of heart!

Hi Sam (and Amanda). This place holds a special fascination for me. My great grandfather was a first world war soldier and in 1921 was a Sergeant Major at Nothe Fort Barracks. He worked there for 5 years and in 1931 moved into the Railway Dock Hotel (since demolished) where he stayed for 26 years until he died. Thank you for the video. I can dm you a couple of pages from his book if you like! 😀

Hi Sam, Thanks for taking us round this fort, looks like you both enjoyed the visit. They've made a good job with the restauration, lots of details to see.
It reminds me of Portsmouth, where I used to live. In fact the first explorations I ever did were in similar forts there. To mitigate the threat from France many fortifications were built. Portsmouth had a ring of forts built stretching from the hill above the city right out into the sea. They became known as the Palmerston Follies after Lord Palmerston who had them built. As the 19th century drew to a close they became obsolete as France and Britain signed the entente cordial, hence they became follies. The Weymouth fort would have been part of this plan.
I remember going with my dad down into the tunnels in Fort Purbrook (on the hill above Portsmouth) when it was abandoned back in the early 1970s, you could just walk in!! These days most have been repurposed, or closed off, Fort Nelson is a museum and Fort Southwick is still operational. The layout is very similar to the one in Weymouth.
Of the sea forts, there were four, they are now privately owned but at one time Spitsand Fort was a museum and held events. These forts were designed such that they could be reinforced with thicker armour plate. To do this there was a small circular passage around the perimeter, not unlike the one in your video, this passage was to enable the fixing bolts for the reinforcing armour to be tightened. Of course it never came to that. I have visited a number of times, the tunnel was unlit so you just felt your way along. If they had said it was a ghost passage I'm not sure I would have gone in🤔🤔😮😮😅😅😂😂😂😂

Another excellent video. Visited Nothe Fort back in 1998 (I think) during a weekend in Weymouth. Regret to say I do not remember the underground passage or the nuclear shelter. Do recall a nice model of the fort and a 40 mm Bofors gun though. Good to be reminded. As an aside, Newhaven Fort has a replica of a Royal Observer Corp fallout shelter (some Dutch tourists made reference to Windscale, bless 'em). Many thanks.
