Today, I stopped at Glass Butte here in Oregon for lunch while making my way to Wyoming for my main quest.
Picked up a few pieces.
Please note that the collection limit for glass butte is 25 lbs per person - per day and not to exceed 250 lbs per year.
It is also against the law to sell what you collect. It is for personal use only.
There are also claims in the area, so watch out for claim posts and avoid claim jumping.

That flower at the beginning of the video was a sego lily, native to the Great basin.
When I was up there what surprised me the most was the 2 nicest pieces of obsidian that I found came from the middle of the road. I saw a small little piece that ended up being huge, silver and grey
Great video! It’s really cool seeing all the great material available in different locations. I’d love to be able to find some obsidian. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us Kyle!
Thank you for following along! Your support means a lot.
There’s definitely rattlesnakes out at glass buttes, so watch where your putting your feet and hands. However, they’re not out during the heat of the day so most of the time you’re fine. Remember you’re a guest in their home out there
Yes, the critters are very important. 💯
Great episode!!!!!!
Thank you!
That obsidian you found just in the surface is pretty cool, or it's not cool at all, hot rocks! That was kinda funny! Lol! But that piece that you kept was nice and there was one you broke with kind of a purple sheen to it and had fire potential to it, that might be the piece you kept, it looked really pretty wet.
Looks very hot out there! Tip for staying cool: freeze a gel ice pack and wrap it in a washcloth. It will fit nicely inside your hat. Keeps your head cool so you stay cool. I did this with the ice while at Crater of Diamonds last year.
Great tip!
Destroyed my tires there! Beautiful part of the state!
Since you were walkin there must have been rocks, lol, hot rocks at that. It was fun seeing the butte through your lens. I've run into scorps on either side; northeast of there and south so I'm betting they're there too. Thanks for going over the BLM rules, always good to remind. That little rental car earned its keep with you, seems like it did ya well. Thanks again for bringing us along, cheers!
It's always important to respect the rules and the land. I try my best. 👍
I would love live to go there! Yikes on the tire risk! Can you dig there?
I know exactly where you're at at Glass Buttes... Met a guy right in that area that was camping there and knapping... Not much there in the flats.
Some great obsidian on that hill right in front of you...
Did you see Emory out there, he drives a bright red trk...?
Glad you made it! 😆 and yeah 100 is hot but 100 with high humidity is a whole other level. I actually gave up yesterday without finding any trilobites. It was just too hot! Greg from BC was in town and met up with us. Thank goodness he found one! That’s one tough Canadian! I’m glad we didn’t melt Greg 😂 he experienced Midwest heat and humidity at its worst
Can you find anything besides obsidian in the area you were searching!
It was my 2nd time actually being there. I found that piece of hyalite opal but I'm not sure what else can be found at glass butte. Just to the west is Hampton Butte - which is known for it's petrified wood!
Glass Butte and mini glass Butte has never disappointed us on any of our trips. Keep having fun and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. 😷⚒
Hydration is key. Absolutely. Work in progress. 👍😊
