- In today's video I set out to explore Banda Aceh on the island of Sumatra. After 30 years of civil war and the Tsunami in 2004, this Capital of the Aceh Province has been through a lot! Before reaching Banda Aceh, I set off from Meulaboh on the western coast of Aceh. From here I ride on the beautiful USAID road all the way to the most northern Capital of the Sumatra Island.
We first visit the famous Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh, Masjid Baiturrahman. We then dive deep into the history of the 2004 Tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. At the Banda Aceh Tsunami Mueseum, a local Acehnese woman tells us her story about that terrifying day in 2004. We then continue the tour to the most famous restaurant in Banda Aceh, Mie Razali. Here we try the famous Mie Aceh and give our honest opinion.
We end the day by visiting the Rahmatullah Lampuuk Mosque, the Mosque that survived the Tsunami, before heading down to the paradise looking, Lampuuk Beach.
I hope this video will show everyone, that Banda Aceh is a wonderful and safe place to visit 🇮🇩

@@tobi9809 Orang Aceh menghargai orang Sunda, begitu juga dengan orang Jawa saat ini.
Tapi hubungan dgn orang Jawa mungkin ada sebagian orang yg berspekulasi negatif (tidak semuanya). Penyebabnya adalah sejarah kelam perang pada masa lalu.
Dimulai pada saat Aceh mulai diinvasi oleh Belanda pada tahun 1873 setalah pihak Belanda & Inggris melanggar perjanjian/Traktat London tahun 1824 dengan membentuk perjanjian baru, yaitu Traktat Sumatera 1871. Pihak Aceh menganggap Traktat Sumatera tersebut adalah bentuk penghianatan dari Inggris & Belanda, krn pada saat itu Kerajaan Aceh masih berdaulat.
Selang dua tahun kemudian, setelah kedua belah pihak (Kerajaan Aceh & Belanda) gagal mencapai kesepakatan damai, meskipun Belanda menawarkan tawaran yg menggiurkan kepada Sultan Aceh yaitu eksistensi kekuasaan Sultan sebagai kepala negara/kerajaan tetap terjaga, tetapi Sultan menolak tawaran tersebut krn merasa Belanda hanya akan menjadikannya sebagai boneka kekuasaan (tidak sepenuhnya berkuasa lagi).
Karena adanya penolakan tersebut, akhirnya tercetuslah perang Aceh dengan Belanda pada tanggal 26 Maret 1873.
Pada saat itu pasukan Belanda dipimpin oleh Jenderal J.H. Rudolf Kohler mendarat di Pantai Ceureumen dan meriam yg pertama ditembakkan dari Kapal Korvet kelas Groningen dgn nama kapal Citadel van Antwerpen menjadi penanda dimulainya perang Aceh yg kemudian berlangsung selama 30 tahun lebih.

Saya orang Medan orang batak dan non muslim sudah 3x ke aceh gk pernah ngerasain atau mengalami hal yang tidak enak.Teman saya banyak orang aceh waktu saya masih tinggal di Medan.Malah kalau saya ke Aceh bareng teman saya yang orang Aceh.
Semua tergantung dari pribadi kita,kalau kita menghormati dan menghargai mereka,pasti mereka juga menghargai kita.
Sumatera barat juga seperti itu...sangat kuat Islamnya,tapi saya nyaman-nyaman saja selama setahun bekerja dan tinggal di sumatera barat.Malah orang sumatera barat itu orang-orangnya suka ngelawak.
Aceh negeri pejuang... Satu satunya tanah yg pernah berperang lebih dari 35 tahun dlm menolak penjajahan Belanda..

Saya asli Medan tapi pernah di Banda Aceh 7 tahun, setelah nikah ngikut suami tinggal di Bali.
Kangen banget sama Banda Aceh, pengen tinggal disana lagi, tapi kurang mendukung soal pendapatan suami yang profesinya Chef, kalo dibanding Bali soal pendapatan sebagai Chef lumayan mencukupi.
Mau buka usaha belum cukup modal.

I had to watch this twice it was so good. If you listen to the mainstream news you will always live in a state of fear and that is by design. I think the great thing about CZcams and awesome channels like this is that they tend to show the real story, not the made up fearmongering stories meant to solicit corporate ad revenue and keep people fearful. Thank you Kristian for showing the real face of Indonesia and Banda Aceh and all the kind and friendly people of Indonesia. The scenes in the Tsunami Museum were heartbreaking. To see so many names on the wall and to think that over 167K people perished in Indonesia alone and over 230K worldwide is just hard to fathom knowing that every family in Banda Aceh was touched in some way by this natural disaster. Thank you for showing the stories of survival as well as the stories of rebuilding even stronger. With Indonesian Independence Day (77th) just a few days ago the slogan of "pulih lebih cepat, bangkit lebih kuat" seems appropriate here. It was also great to see your mom and John on the vlog. What a great experience they must have had and I love your level of excitement and happiness seeing them enjoying everything. What would you say has been the most surprising aspect of Banda Aceh that you didn't expect?

I would have to say that the most surprising aspect was a all the people we meet, all the places we went, it was nothing like I had heard about. Everyone was extremely friendly and kind, even though the have Syariah law, there is nothing to afraid of there. As long as you respect them, they will respect you. All in all a wonderful experiences 🙏🏼 thanks as always Matt 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@KristianHansen additional that Syariah Law is not applied for non-moslem, women doesn't have to wear hijab as not entering the mosque. alcohol is also available in the hotel cafe, and pork in Chinese restaurants, like any other place, Banda Aceh offers comfort to its guests.

As Indonesian, obviously I'm pro Indonesia versus The Aceh Movement ... yes, I know there're lack of justice and freedom given by Indonesia Government during Suharto Regime ... but for me the Unitary of Indonesia is a number one most important thing in this country - whatever conflict happens ... unity is always above all ... Indonesia is like one big family, every single tribes needs each other from Sabang to Merauke - even if ure "father" did a very bad thing, u just have to fight for ure right, but not leaving ure family
I was devastated by the news about Tsunami in Aceh - as I live in Jakarta ... it's really really sad ... but somehow as Indonesian, and I think also for majority of Acehnese, we see this tragedy as "the voice of Allah" ... the God's touch or warning ... to stop the pointless 30-years conflict and be united again, living in harmony and peace - Aceh can't do anything without the helps of Indonesia and Indonesia won't be the same without Aceh

That earthquake and tsunami happened when I was junior high. I live in Sibolga, which is also in North Sumatra. My mom and I were traumatized when the quake suddenly happened in the middle of the night. Thankfully, due to the small islands surronding our town, the tsunami didn't hit at all. That is certainly a moment you will nevet forget
I've been to Aceh twice, and I love it !! Very SAFE

I personally never visited Banda Aceh but from what i've heard from my friends it's a really beautiful place with an interesting culture, i don't understand why people refer aceh as an "unsafe" place. I'm glad you proved them wrong
and if you really want to know more about the 2004 tsunami i recommend reading/watching "hafalan shalat delisa", it's a novel which got a movie adaptation. Can't say much about the movie because i havent watched it but i really liked the novel. The novel tells a story about a girl named delisa in meulaboh, in 26 december 2004 morning (excactly when the tsunami strikes) delisa was having a prayer exam in her school. When tsunami strikes meulaboh she survived but with a heavy injuries, her leg got amputated and her family died but life must goes on. It's a really touching story

I was born and growing up in Acheh as Achehnese. I experienced Acheh was very safe. We used to go out at 3.00am to Simpang 5 to eat fried rice. However, since indonesian criminals, TNI/POLRI started doing their colonial military operation intensely, Acheh becomes an unsafe place to live. Most of criminals in Acheh, drug, robbery, etc., those criminals are behind the scenes. Those criminals also get involved in natural resources exploitation. “PUNGLI” is their command practice. That’s why you see them living prosperously in Aceh.
To deny this fact, you may compare their monthly salaries with the wealth they own!
Very easy to prove if they do not hide it!

I think the reason why relationship between Aceh and Turkey is strong is because the connection between them has precedently been built even before Indonesia as a nation was established. Aceh was an Islamic Sultanate and more of a protectorate or vassal territory of the Utsmani Caliphate (Turkey), especially during the Portuguese era. Technically, Aceh was not really dependent on what Dutch colonialism did to Indonesia until the end of the 19th century. More or less, these historical facts give Aceh a special municipality status when they decided to join Indonesia.

yeah. i hate those indonesians especially the muslim ones that even scared of their own people. bruh...
inilah mengapa kita harus memerangi muslim yg membenci muslim, orang indonesia yg membenci orang indonesia. Radikal radikul dan toleransi2an noh yg sering digunain. Hedehh... meresahkan.
Tapi benci dari segi pemikirannya yah. jgn benci orang2nya. maka dari itu harus diubah ini pola pikirnya. dan jgn polarisasi ala2 cebong n pemsat skrg yg ngebikin kalo ga kadrun, ya cebong. "cebong vs kadrun" kata mereka(buzzerbayaran + missionaris kristen). padahal, kenyataan di lapangan adalah.. "orang2 bodoh vs orang2 yg memperjuangkan kebenaran". udah gitu doang. kaga peduli elu agamanya apa. etnisnya apa. sukunya apa.
dan ga usah bawa2 soal toleransi2an. INDONESIA SUDAH TOLERAN TANPA KITA SADARI KALO KITA TOLERAN. Misalnya, membantu tetangga beda agama dalam hal keuangan, bagi makanan, dsb. TANPA TERIAK2 TOLERANSI.
Seringkali yg teriak2 toleransi justru mereka kaga toleran. Dan, istilah utk org2 yg bodoh macam gitu tuh.. "TOLOLRANSI". Mereka tidak mempraktikan toleransi. Yang ada hanyalah mereka ga peduli perbedaan lalu mencampuradukkan semuanya. itu kan KEBABLASAN.
Ada kan tuh bbrp kasus misalnya org muslim nikah di gereja. Kan kebablasan ini. Toleransi matamu. Itu namanya tololransi.
Ada juga muslim yg nganggep ngucap "selamat natal" itu boleh2 saja. Pret. Ketika anda ngucap "selamat natal", disitu anda mengakui kalau yesus lahir tgl 25 desember dan juga mengakui kepercayaan mereka yg nganggep hari tsb hari "kelahiran" Tuhan mereka.
Padahal, yesus di dlm alkitab itu sendiri lahir pd musim hangat. Hewan n tanaman pada beranak n berbuah. Brarti mana mungkin pas desember.
Beda antara netral tidak memihak dengan golput.
netral tidak memihak itu artinya, ga bakal memihak suatu kubu dan hanya berpegang teguh ke LOGIKA. Kalau kubu A logis, maka dukung kubu A, kalo kubu B logis, maka dukung kubu B. gitu.
Kalau golput, ini ga peduli sama hal2 tsb.
