- Create highly realistic Rim Lights or Backlight Effect in Photoshop just by utilizing the power of Layer Masks. Learn the principles of Backlighting and the Physics involved to understand the effect even better and get it closer to reality. Whether you are retouching a portrait or an object, the secret to creating amazing rim light is to have a perfect selection of the subject. The more precise and accurate the selection, the more realistic the effect. In this tutorial, after learning how the phenomenon of diffraction works, and what role does it play in shaping the backlight, we will learn how to combine masks and groups of layers to create this effect. However, the effect by itself does not add mood or drama to the image. In order to add that, we can experiment by trying different combinations of adjustment layers like Color Lookup with Blend if and Vibrance.

Carl Nicholls i agree but aaron is very funny i can watch him forever this guy do the "without further ado " and i wanna kill myself but he is very very good i make myself tolerate it...one more serious note, phlearn are very artistic this guy is super technical, while it's my opinion he's the best photoshop technical guy...his work on examples isn't that good cause he's not a photographer!

Question: Hey Unmesh! Is there any difference in image quality/image information between the "file types" in photoshop? (Open as smart object or raster) I mean between "after finish camera raw and continue in photoshop" and then in bouth cases (continue image as raster or smart object)
I think once i heard something like "once you finish camera raw and continue in photoshop you loose the power of raw" Since then i am kinda scared. Do i loose image quality once i work in photoshop?
