Incredible that the 5k NCAA record went down 9 seconds since the start of indoor season. First Blanks, now Young.
And now the thirteen minute barrier has been broken by a collegiate runner.

Henry Rono 13:08 in 1978. Record remained unbroken for 44 years.
Abdi Nur (NAU) broke it in 2022 with a 13:06.
Graham Blanks (Harvard): 13.03.78. Indoors. Fifty-seven days ago.
Nico Young (NAU) today: 12:57.14

He will be one of the greatest american distance runners ever by the end of his running career.He's been incredibly consistent and competitive in his transition from NP to NAU.This is nearly 100% gonna be his greatest College outdoor season yet,he is in record-breaking shape and it's only January.

Track is not currently a sport a lot of people simply enjoy watching. They need a title like such to attract more viewers. Additionally, if you were really a fan, you would have already seen the results before watching the video or watched it live.

How do you set a record and not even win the race? Is the other guy not in college or something? Honestly Nico looked like he was dying his arm form looked bad to me. That short kid Adrian flew past him and it looked effortless. Nico looked like he was passing a kidney stone while leaking a hemorrhoid with his arms flailing.

@@esgee3829 I have, he is more relaxed here than almost any race. He has come so far especially since highschool. Learn more about his form / how relaxed he used to be before striking back. Looks way better than before
@@esgee3829 I would also consider that relaxation does not matter in a race. You are meant to push yourself to the end as hard as possible. While form is important, Nico has always looked like this but has improved with time.
That track is very bouncy the time likely aided at least by 4 sec per mile. The combination of bouncy tracks, no wind resistance and shoe technology has made an illusion that runners are much better than decades ago
Runners are better than decades ago. Advanced training, better shoes, better coaches etc. its not an illusion

lol yes, a lot of it is due to shoe tech, training methodologies, altitude ability, but why does that invalidate that runners are truly better now? The shoes, the better training surfaces, the careful measured training, the altitude, that is what makes them all better than before.
You can't compare indoor to outdoor. The tighter turns negate the wind resistance. Running indoor is way tougher than outside. You have no fresh air. Shoes probably help. The new training philosophies are why this new generation is better though. Back then coaches were dead set on more mileage equals faster times. It doesn't work that way.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Nico is blood doping. Nobody improves his time like that from last year without blood doping. Just impossible. I hope they are testing him

Don’t know about blood doing, but a lot of younger athletes last year were caught on a number of doping programs

Nico Young is training in Flagstaff Az. running for NAU and a good coach , all the runners for NAU are well taking care of .
