Not gluing the leather enables you to replace the leather as it wears out. Great video.

Nice idea, I had my doubts about not including the thickness of the leather in your calculations, but the water and clamps proved me wrong! Thanks for sharing!

I tried the cutting board method too, but got marks on soft wood too. I tried using Pyrex container lids because they are featureless but not thick enough for my liking, so this leather idea is great!

    Quick question...
I tried using forester bits to make weights like the ones you use to balance lures but I couldn’t remove them from the wood mold. I used oak. Different sized bits 3/8” deep. Did you prep the mold with something first?

Thank you for watching! Sometimes I have a few stubborn holes that won't release very easily. I don't prepare them, but they do seem to release better after a few uses. I think the hot lead burns the wood slightly and makes it release better over time. If it still won't release after cooling and vigorous banging, you might try a softer wood with more flex in it. I've been using pine. Hope this helps.

@@zimmtex Thank you. I’ll try a piece of pine. 🙂.

@@MASKTERTV I did reply; sorry you did not get it. I use small paint brushes to apply epoxy. The best epoxies I have used are TrueCoat and East Coast Resin. Those are both really smooth and have very few bubbles. Best wishes!
