Making a Clear Minnow Lure - a how to guide on handmade fishing lures

  • The process of making a clear fishing lure is very detailed. In this video I walk through step by step how to make one of these custom baits. This transparent glass fish is modeled somewhat off of a Cyanogaster, recently discovered in Brazil. This amazing freshwater fish has beautiful colors and makes a really awesome minnow stick bait with a natural gliding action. I think this handmade lure would be effective on freshwater species such as bass, crappie and trout as well as smaller saltwater species such as tuna and snapper.

Hey, Mike. I don't think I'm patient enough to make a bait like this, but I greatly admire the ingenuity, creativity, and attention to detail you amply demonstrated here. Hope this innovative lure catches lots of mountain trout for you!

Try StarBond glues. They offer a kit which consist of thin, med, and thick. The packages come with several pin point tips and tip cleaner. I keep mine stored in the fridge while not in use. Also might like to try Great Planes Milled Fiberglass. Super strong instead of using baking soda. I have built model rc planes and this stuff became a game changer. Being disabled I have enjoyed your shows. Keep up the good work

I love your work! Maybe the Shad glide for the next one. I’m having difficulty describing my idea for future builds. First a lure that lays on its side with an up and down motion instead of side to side. Maybe mimicking an injured baitfish on the fall or slow retrieve.
Also employ this up and down motion to mimic a flatfish like a small flounder.
Have not seen any bait makers intentionally make a lure with a “dolphin-like” tail action.

Using model scraps is cool and all, but you need to make a mold for your bone pattern as well.

This resin makes an excellent bone material!

Option 1. What would be cool, if you could somehow imitate Storms self tuning line tie concept.

For future it might be worth taking a mould of the head section alone, and having one made with a swim bladder shape attached that you add into the body mould when doing the clear pour, then attaching the head that was moulded separately, that way you aren't having to carve it individually whenever you want to make a new one of these. Gorgeous little lure though

Another great video. Where can I find the screw eyes you use? I don't see them listed on your website. I am looking for 5mm saltwater kind. TIA

Thank you! I actually make my own twist wire eyes from stainless steel lock wire.

I'm biased because I just did a few shad glides for someone so I'd like to see a smallmouth bass replica. I feel like there'd be a lot of detailed information in that. But whatever wins I'm looking forward to it! 👊🏻
