Albania's Postal System: Can Visitors Get Mail Without an Address? | NOMAD EXPATS SLOW TRAVEL

  • We heard that sending mail to Albania can be problematic. From missing parcels to costly fees and other various issues. We had a parcel sent from overseas to test it for ourselves. The mail system in Albania seems to involve picking up mail at the post office, so we had something sent to the local post office in Saranda to our attention just to see what would happen. Watch and find out if the postal system works.
    We are Jay and Sarah, a couple of nomad expats currently residing in Saranda, Albania. We left our jobs, sold our home, and are traveling the world full time. We enjoy sharing our experiences and journey with you.

    When you mentioned how hot it was, I noticed the gal at the counter wearing a turtle neck sweater or shirt and a lab coat? or jacket. But, there seemed to be a vent in the ceiling directly above/behind the girl at the counter. Glad you got your package! The process seems fairly simple as long as they find your package.

      Exactly. Not specific to employee uniforms, but today it will be 20 degrees and sunny in Albania where we are. There will be people out and about wearing warm jackets. It has been said that they dress for the season, not for the weather. It is strange seeing puffy winter coats on a warm sunny day.

    We were told to include our personal phone numbers on incoming packages, but super helpful info to know to also include the PO number! Thank you!

      @JayandSarah  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes must include a phone number and it must be a 355 Albanian number. They will not call foreign numbers.

    Good video - 3 weeks is great - I currently reside in Australia post from the US takes a month and yet from the UK it can be as little as a week - how the hell is that possible who knows who cares, so long as it arrives. Bit like flying - take and land safe who cares about comfort, delays, or cost. Thank you again.

      Most welcome! Glad you liked it. It's one of those things you have to consider if you live here for a year as an American or for 90 days as someone from other countries. Sometimes you need something sent.

      Yeah if you need mail, go to the post office get the info for that actual station, mail it to there. Put your name and you must put an albanian phone number. Thanks for watching glad you are here and feeling better! Must say, we are both up EARLY!

    I wonder if you can get things from Amazon UK?

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  Před 3 měsíci +1

      My understanding from many expat forums is that no, the moment you try to change to an Albanian address, Amazon won't process the order. Your only possibility is to buy it online and ship to a friend in the UK and then have them mail it to you here. If it's a purchase and valuable you could be paying some import taxes.. essentially you pay the 20% vat that albania would have collected had you bought the item there... plus 20% on the shipping costs as well. This is my best understanding of it.
