I think it did, was literally the first time I used it, if you hit the button on the side it cycles a shell out of the tube.

I think you're looking too much for clear shots, but that really doesnt happen very much with WC and grouse much. I was always taught to pretend the branches arent there and shoot anyway. I have to say its really helped with putting birds in the bag. You only need one pellet to take either bird down
You are right, between struggling with the safety and waiting for a clear shot I was too slow. I did better with my over/under with a safety on the top.

@@andyholsclaw9470 O/U or SxS is much better for WC and grouse. Mostly because the actual gun is smaller and menuverable. My favorite WC and grouse gun is a 26" CV Redhead premier. Tiny gun that's easy to shoot in the thick stuff.
Moral of the story is shoot anyway. I always empty both barrels, even if I cant see the bird anymore. I've shot quite a few grouse that way. Just sent the dog in and see if it comes out carrying a bird or not.
Your right, I’m much better with my browning citori 28” for grouse and woodcock, I shot a grouse this year that I lost in the brush, no idea I got it until Howie retrieved and brought back to me.
