I can imagine why Napalm hates the strat. Imagine how many times you have to reset runs to get the AWP like that, that has to be just hours of resetting runs. Now imagine if after all that resetting you just don't get a WR time, welp time to waste hours resetting runs again
I've tried grinding AWP Gunslinger runs, and it honestly is so tedious. If you want my opinion, and I reckon Napalm would agree with me on this, the Bullet character is the most fun character to speedrun with despite not being the most efficient.
Not that amazing considering that every runner that wants to beat or at least get near these numbers will have to miserably reset for a rare red chest that has a 1 in 2 chance to drop a gun and a much more rare chance to drop exactly AWP, Gungeon speedrun meta just died and became even more grind-based than it ever was, nothing amazing really
@@gl00merz i completely agree, beating the game is only a small fraction of a roguelikes potential. Speedruns unlock hundreds of extra hours of gameplay which is what makes them so great.

Second, unlocking Gunslinger requires more luck than skill, since The Paradox starts with random items, and you need to beat the 6th Chamber. Third, it's a joke. That definitely is a good idea for a Strat, you'd be able to cycle through runs very quickly because you could just reset immediately if you didn't have AWP. It would cost a LOT of hegemony credits though.
True, there is some time he could have saved there. If I had to give a ballpark guess, I'd say he could save a solid 5 seconds on pillars and like 2 seconds on twins.
In theory I think with the AWP strat you could get a sub 5 if you got insane luck with glitch chests (skips entire floor but you have to fight 2 eye bosses simultaneously and has like a 0.003% chance to replace a chest

Unfortunately you can't get an active item from Paradox, so I'd have to say the best starting luck would have to be Blasphemy with AWP and Lich eye bullets. Also, scope isn't the only thing that AWP synergizes with to give it it's boosted damage, so you'd have to get Lich eye bullets. You're definitely on the right track though, Paradox has the potential to produce an insane time.
As someone who is also in the speedrunning discord, I can confirm that Hollow really cares about Gungeon, almost too much to be honest. I'm sure he'll break sub 7 minute sooner rather than later.
It is possible, it would just take INSANE luck to get that. Also, if the chamber generation is unlucky you have to start all over again to find the AWP+Lich Eye Bullet combo.
A long con strat would be making a fresh save file and unlocking the gunslinger while only purchasing the items from Troc up until you purchase the AWP and not purchase any other items from other merchants in the breach. It decreases the pool of items that can spawn in the gungeon and thereful less resets to get the AWP in the first chest of the first floor. Hopeful with less rng a talented speed runner could practice more and get the WR. But I gotta agree with Napalm as a switch player, this strat is not fun.
I think the Gungeon community has a save file that they use which has done exactly what you said. Only PC players can download it and you're essentially modding your game, but it's still legal on the leaderboards. If I'm not mistaken, both Napalm and HollowGun use this save file.

It always kind of was, the issue was nobody was trying for WR since Napalm held 7m01s for years by a solid minute and 42 seconds. After my video, HollowGun started grinding runs for WR using the AWP Strats and to counter it Napalm had to begrudgingly fight fire with fire.
I actually brought this point up in the EtG speedrunning discord, and I think either escape rope or teleporter prototype could be the key to getting the next World Record. HollowGun doesn't think it's possible, but HollowGun is generally pessimistic about the idea of insanely lucky runs.
It's such a great run, even with the mistakes. I'm certain that, even if someone did beat his record, Napalm would grind until he reclaimed the WR again.
I wouldnt exactly call this a new era or at least this era started back when gunslinger was first added, the technique of rerolling runs for the AWP on gunslinger has been done since he was first added in boss rush. This strat was never done in any% runs since as you said, its very boring to most people and would rather settle for something more fun as opposed to saving and restarting hundreds of times. Its done in boss rush much more so since it is more consistent to roll for the AWP since bossrush is completely linear
The main reasons I called it a new era was because A. The first ever sub 7 any% run was submitted, B. Said run beat the WR that had been there for 3 years and C. The AWP Strats were finally utilized in some of the best any% runs. Until recently the WR and the top few positions were stagnant for months, some of those records being beaten seemed worthy enough for me to call a new era.
@@ThatHomieDemon so I got a good gun first floor and then I was able to skip second and third floor because I got the glitched eye of the beholster then the fourth floor I didnt notice the map in the merchant's room so I ended up going through the whole floor which took awhile and then made it to the dragon and died. Well, if you watched the current World Record and all the time Napalm lost I think it's definitely clear there's optimization to be made. However, I do agree with you on the fact that the current strategy does seem unbeatable and any World Record set will likely be with the AWP
Homie, I took so many takes. I stutter so much both on and off camera, there was no way I was going to get a perfect take without a speech therapist even while segmenting the dialogue. That being said, I'm trying to get rid of this stutter and hopefully the next scripted video will sound smoother.
It's a synergy that the AWP has, specifically. The regular Sniper Rifle can also do it with the same synergy, but can't stack enough damage to oneshot bosses due to its lower base damage, hence why people use the AWP for this strat
@@masternate2993 It's an item called 'Scope', which enables the synergy '360 Yes Scope' It's also compounding that you also have the synergy from having the item Muscle Relaxant which increases the base damage of sniper-type items, which the AWP falls under
Nerf Awoopa Yea, I know, Gunglinger is op too but he wasn't meant to be balanced, the AWP being great A-tier makes sense but I don't think the 360* noscope passive should stack 6 times. That makes it just x100 times better than makeshift cannon

I'm sure there is, you just have to research the likelihood of getting certain chests and getting certain items within said chests. I'm too dumb to do it but it's certainly possible.

Rainbow runs are their own category. They also rely on AWPs though.
To unlock bullet hell do you have to only use the 4 original gungeoniers or can you u use the robot or bullet instead?

Homie, I took so many takes. I stutter so much both on and off camera, there was no way I was going to get a perfect take without a speech therapist even while segmenting the dialogue. That being said, I'm trying to get rid of this stutter and hopefully the next scripted video will sound smoother.

It's a synergy that the AWP has, specifically.
The regular Sniper Rifle can also do it with the same synergy, but can't stack enough damage to oneshot bosses due to its lower base damage, hence why people use the AWP for this strat

It's also compounding that you also have the synergy from having the item Muscle Relaxant which increases the base damage of sniper-type items, which the AWP falls under

Yea, I know, Gunglinger is op too but he wasn't meant to be balanced, the AWP being great A-tier makes sense but I don't think the 360* noscope passive should stack 6 times. That makes it just x100 times better than makeshift cannon

Sort of, but it never held the World Record until recently. Also, it was just generally less fun so the top players tried to avoid using it until it was necessary for WR.

Is there a way to calculate the luck needed to get an AWP on a run?
I'm sure there is, you just have to research the likelihood of getting certain chests and getting certain items within said chests. I'm too dumb to do it but it's certainly possible.
