I left mine in the ground over last winter and they were very slow to start in spring/early summer, they didnt flower till about mid-late july. This time round i've had them in the plastic greenhouse over winter and they're all looking great! cant wait to get them in the ground!
Hi, there’s pros and cons to either method but leaving them in the ground definitely means the start is dependent on the spring weather and things like slug damage can be an issue. That being said though, they’re definitely a late summer - autumn plant in my eyes so I would say yours were late at all but with the headstart inside your plastic greenhouse they’ll certainly be flowering earlier this year 😊 It’s nearly time, good luck with them!

Could you please give me an indication of the width of your borders I can't seem to work out the scale and depth. So looking forward to your garden this year 😘
Hi Linda, thank you very much and it’s amazing to hear that your garden plans are giving you so much excitement and joy - that’s what it’s all about whether you’re 8 or 80! The whole tropical / jungle / exotic style of gardening really is very rewarding with fast growth, the ability to change things around every year and how you’re able to create a striking atmosphere and feeling over the course of a summer, even in a very small space. My garden is quite narrow, about 7m so I try to make the best use of it and have borders that vary from 1-3m wide. I’d always recommend going wider where possible! Thank you, I’ve got several projects to work on but have also juggled some planting around so, like you, I’m excited to see where it takes me. Thanks for your support and all the best with your plans, happy to help wherever I can.

Hi, yes, they’re doing very well already and definitely seem a lot more upright and sturdy than in previous years so I imagine they’ll be huge very soon if they don’t get blown away today! Nice one, I hope yours settle in well and soon size up with the magical spring mix of rain, sun and warming soil 😊
No worries and I’m all about an end of season bargain! Alongside the new plants that I’ve excitedly shown off, I’ve been splitting and dividing a lot of plants here too, a very cost effective way to fill out a garden after a few years 😊
Hi George, yes Cannas are so easy to grow and are fantastic tropical plants. I now also bought some super large Hostas! They are amazing shady plants! Did you ever try Hostas? If so - a video about Hostas would also be very much appriciated! 😊
Hi Thomas, apologies for the delayed reply and yes, I'm a fan of Hostas too. Sure, they get nibbled a bit but they have some lovely leaves and you've made a great choice going for the big ones! I don't really have much insightful experience and tips for growing them but moist soil and a bit of shade work wonders!

Ah George that's a better idea,I split my Canna Tropicana's and stored in saw dust October 2 years ago, but they where like raisins at potting time .I was left with one slow growing piece of rhizome ,fingers crossed for that one and on to new method. 😅
Look at those Gunneras! Cannas seems to do really well with low growing grass and dahlias. George do you have a Wisteria, considering either the Japanese or Chinese variety by a large shed to drape over it. Only concern is every search seems to be it spreads with underground runners like Sasa bamboo but apparently only in America or the Mediterranean. Have you any experience with Wisteria, it's not the seeding but running, but it would look nice and jungly. Thanks George.
Hi, apologies for the delayed reply and yes, the Gunneras are getting big now! Cannas and Dahlias really are an exciting summer combo. I don't have a Wisteria unfortunately and to be honest have never come across the varieties mostly planted here running. Size is definitely a factor though and many people underestimate how vigorous they are and how big they want to get!

Ahh right, yes passion flowers are great and nice one on the rostratas, I'm certainly a fan of those! As for the Ensete, personally I'd wait 2 or 3 weeks this time round, just so the soil warms up more as it's been a chilly, wet start to spring. They'll soon romp away when they get planted out!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden Thanks George, it's been nice and sunny here but the cold has slightly creeped back in. Finally got my camellia and Yuccas down with some fire grass. Would you think a Japanese maple, Acer variety could work in a tropical jungle garden there are sections with bamboo fatsia and Pieris that mesh really well together.
Hopefully more sun soon and great to hear you’re making progress! I’m a big fan of Pieris and it’ll certainly help create an exotic / oriental garden mixed with the bamboo and a maple especially. Personally I love ‘Sango-kaku’ and ‘Osakazuki’ but there’s plenty of red-leaved wonders that would tie in beautifully, go for one that has the leaf shape, form and colour that really grabs you 😊
iv grown 5 canna from seed they are about 3 inches tall at the moment they have had a very week feed of seaweed , i want to put them by my pond will they grow in pots all the time
Nice one Pauline, great work. They can stay in pots, yes, but need a large pot and plenty of water and nutrients for the best growth and ideally somewhere sheltered / frost free to bring them for winter. Well done for growing them from seed, that’s what I did with most of mine!
