      @Trid What were you even trying to say?
      You know animals are babies at a young age? Not to mention that owning a big parrot is more consuming than a baby and cockatoos act like 3 year olds - they are smart like them.
      Atleast educate yourself on it before writing some bs. And horribly at that.

    • @InWinds
      @InWinds Před 4 lety +62

      @Trid Not all parrots, or birds for that matter, are "artificially created". These guys were originally from the wild. They have the intelligence and sometimes attitude of a child. Not to mention, they aren't created for entertainment... these guys require a lot of work and effort.

    • @InWinds
      @InWinds Před 4 lety +23

      @Trid Actually, most parrots are bred from other parrots. Birds that are taken from the wild are not common and usually illegal. Parrots that are bred from other parrots can't return to the wild because they haven't been there in the first place. Endangered parrots, however, usually are in sanctuaries.

    • @InWinds
      @InWinds Před 4 lety +30

      @Trid Dogs are wolves, which are from the wild. Cats are descendants from other larger cats, which are from the wild. At this point we should take away all pets?? My bird helps me with my depression and honestly enjoys being with me. A lot of parrots do enjoy being with their owners. They're just pets. Pet ones will remain pets, wild ones will remain wild. I suppose you have no pets with this mindset of yours

      I can understand how hard it was for her. The more time you spend with birds and get to know them the more you can understand and see their feelings and sensitivity. I have an Amazon parrot and every day in the early evening we listen to a wide variety of music while he eats. He adores classical music and sits perfectly still with his eyes closed while he listens. I have since learned parrots are very social and love to eat together. My cat insists that his afternoon food bowl goes near his bird cage. Their personalities are amazing.

Actually they are considered to be quite intelligent and can learn to mimic a wide range of sounds and vocabulary. They need to be kept busy too and love attention as they are a highly socialised bird. You always see them in large flocks all around Australia. They can be pretty cheeky too 😃

    this is so wholesome. i’ve a cockatiel that i got from a pet shop, he was extremely scared and frightened from people, his tail was broken and his wings kept bleeding. i gave him time to heal, get adjusted to his new surroundings and little by little earned his respect. i was told by professional bird trainers that i’d never be able to touch, kiss him, or handle him, but i’ve taken 4 long months of my time to slowly get him to grow comfortable around me. it’s just recently that i’ve been able to give me his scritches, kisses and cuddles. it’s still a long road before i’ll be able to pick him myself, but he goes onto my hand voluntarily without me having to cause him stress. i think a lot of people who get birds as pets don’t think of them as a new family member, but rather entertainment. yes i’ve got bitten a bunch of times by him, i had scratches, bite marks and bled a lot just to get him comfortable, but it pays of so much, and to be quiet honest, i’ve literally cried when he first let me touch him with out biting, hissing or throwing a tantrum and instead he closed his eyes and loved the gentle touch. i love him so much and would never go back in time!

When I took on my first rescue, my Grandad said to me: "always show love & kindness and always take things at your animal's pace, and you'll never go wrong". Many years and many more rescues later (of all different species) I can honestly say that it was the best advice I've ever been given.

      Part of the issue with buying birds are people buying them from commercial pet stores instead of breeders or local exotics where the birds get constant attention. Your bird sounds like it was wild and they threw it in a cage in hopes to domesticate him, much like what PetCo and Petsmart does. Buying a bird from a local shop guarantees them to be hand fed and hand tamed. I bought a tiel from petco and it was terrified of people and didn’t want anything to do with us. I took it back because I wanted a hand friendly bird. I now own a tiel who was hand fed and hand raised and he’s now my best buddy.

      It’s really lovely to watch them fly in their big flocks, and then all land at the same time. Nothing quite like watching a big flock of galahs. And they’re so funny too- always playing with each other and being silly.
      And that’s how they belong- in the wild, with their large flocks. No human can replicate that. Bogie is already here, so I’m glad he has as good a life as he can with his owner, but Americans need to stop breeding exotic animals to be pets. They don’t belong there.
      It’s illegal to own a galah here in Australia, and that’s as it should be. I’m quite angry that Americans are owning our native animals- I’ve even seen come people with pet kangaroos, and that’s simply atrocious! They do not belong there, please stop.

      I see thousands of these eating grass and seeds on traffic islands and parks everywhere. I suppose I'm so used to seeing them that the colour doesn't stand out to me...especially when there are also rosellas and rainbow lorikeets everywhere too.
      Also many people end up having them as pets because sometimes when there are young ones that have just left the nest but didn't become adequate at flying fast enough, so they are in danger of being a cats meal. So people rescue them and they end up being part of the family.

      The owner of Max the Mollucan cockatoo, Dan (Mr. Max T.V.) comes home either once or twice a day in the middle of his workday just so he can hang out with his birdy boy. Birds, especially parrots, can very easily become depressed if they don't get enough positive stimulation and time for recreational activities. Every time Dan has to be away from home for any days outside of the normal schedule, he enlists the help of people he can entrust Max to for the away-time.
      If you have a parrot, you need to thoroughly vet people to ensure your bird will be safe and most of all, calm in their presence (do some going-to-the-shops testing to ensure a good situation doesn't go bad as soon as you leave). Ensure your bird accepts food from them, that your bird doesn't lash out, and that the persons know what they SHOULDN'T do with a bird, since improper handling is super stressful.

    Ihave been debating getting my cat a cat tree and when she said "it should be a symbiotic relationship, whether that's putting in the extra legwork to let your animal be more how it should be in the wild" I looked at cat and yelled "THAT'S IT, I'M GETTING YOU THE BIGGEST CAT TREE I CAN POSSIBLY AFFORD"
