  • Dismantling "The Flip Side", a 1:5 scale pinball machine created by American Girl (the doll company). This video covers cabinet and backbox disassembly and an initial look at the circuitry in both.
See my review of the machine, before I tore it apart, here:

This is amazing, man! I got partway through a teardown myself (to see how easily the art could be customized) but got nervous trying to reverse how the flipper buttons were installed. You went way beyond!

Whoa, Brad Albright?! I bought a bunch of your stickers a few weeks ago! Good to see you! If I ever actually finish this project and build a custom set of rules/displays/callouts, maybe we should link up and do a full custom job with new artwork!

As an American Girl collector, this is super cool.

Could you also do the Pac Man machine from Courtney's collection?

You really need an overhead camera, to better show what you're pointing out on circuitry. I wasn't able to see anything you were point at, but I really enjoyed seeing what goes on inside this toy. Very cool. Thanks for sharing the video with us.

ThomasGrillo Yeah, I agree! Maybe someday I'll start making that Internet Money and I can up my game. Thanks for watching!

Great video! A couple questions (apologies in advance if covered) :
    1) How to reset high score?
    2) Did you fix the noisy spinner? If so, how?
    Thanks

What program are you using to trace those pins?

Microsoft Visio. It’s my go-to program for technical drawings.

On my unit, the ball gets stuck on the little white crescent shaped piece by the plunger. I have to really tilt it to get it over. Is that thing supposed to move? Would it be possible to take a closeup video of yours in action?

If I remember right, there was a little white plastic piece that was only in there for shipping. You're supposed to remove it. It slides out the bottom. It's meant to capture the ball and keep it from banging around during shipping. Is that the problem?

@@kyle5574 nope, that part is out. I see the piece I’m talking about in your video, but it’s hard to see if it moves.

It's supposed to sit under the playfield when the plunger is at rest. When you pull the plunger back, it pokes up and pushes the ball into the shooter lane.
