Respect!!! I'm a 60 year old black man from Harlem. I joined the Marines the day after high school graduation. Best lesson!- they called us dark green Marines and the white boys light green Marines. I just need to know what im dealing with. Honorable Discharge went back to NYC and was a Correction Officer for 20 years- retired moved to Georgia became a Transit Police officer - retired and now doing security. I've been saying it for decades "most of the people in Law Enforcement 75% at least shouldn't be" COWARDS! All you have to do is what you took an oath to do! I'm gonna say it and I don't care who doesn't like it - in Law Enforcement there is a black and blue line and a white and blue line so everything Prof. Small said is true- some of us wanna impress the EUROPEAN!!! So they go above and beyond. I try to encourage black men and women to join the military or go into law enforcement also! EACH ONE TEACH ONE!

Police are trained to extract resources from citizens. Black people just often make themselves easy prey by trying to argue in the streets rather than in court.
For example, the Sandra Bland case. The cop was originally only going to write her a ticket and let her go but she berated him by calling him all kinds of bitches until he changed his mind and decided to take her in. If she had simply kept her cool, she'd have been on her way but she felt like she knew the law better than the cop did and maybe she did, but the street ain't the place to prove it.

As a Retired LE who lived both sides of the coin.
I believe it's a 2 way street. Are their racist LE absolutely without question.
Are their people in the communities that the community protects knowing that these particular individuals are poison. Yes
They no better than the police. Drug selling, prostitution, shootings, gang activities, our babies getting caught in gang beef while playing outside, etc.
The police mistreating us while we mis treating each other thru violence and murder also. Some of our communities are just as bad as some of the racist cops. We allow murderers, drug dealers, and rapist just do whatever and the community don't say nothing. The communities protect them. Why?
It's a 2 way street. As I am responding I can bet you we some where shooting, killing, raping and robbing our own.
      Both sides are guilty.
Who are doing the most killing of each other?
That's for you to answer if you are reading my comment.
As a black Ret. LE I have experience so much killing in our communities that it made me sick.
Funeral homes getting richer and richer from all the killings.
Seeing mothers crying out for justice for their sons and daughters being murdered.
We complain about the system but do nothing about this racist system.
We just protest and a few days later back to normal business.
The system laughed at us and don't have no respect because Some of us don't have respect for self.
Racist cops thinking we all criminals based on a small few causing havoc in our communities.
Can we even patrol our own communities?
Who calls a 911 system for help knowing your enemy will respond?
It's not the Training of the police it's the individual and the perception people have about certain communities.
As a former Training officer on patrol in a housing complex doing a building check from top to bottom.
As we were heading down stairs it was urine and feces on a few landing.
One white rookie cop ask me Sir how can people live like this?We were slipping in urine. Smh
Born and raised in the housing complex I was hurt and embarrassed.
How was I suppose to respond?
Know this rookie officer was referring to my people.
I just responded by saying some people just don't care.
      Anyway peace and blessings

I concur with these statements. An older family member is a veteran policeman. The way that he speaks about his own people, the opinions he has of his own women, the things he says about gays. And in my mind, I’m like Bro this is how you feel about the people in the communities and larger surrounding areas that you serve? Listening to the brother sounds like I’m not even having a conversation with a brother.
I think Dr. Micheal Eric Dyson articulated it best on his recent BC Interview, “The Ventriloquism of White Supremacy: Black Mouths Moving, White Ideas & Talking Points Flowing Out”.
The apparent and grotesque lack of compassion is mind boggling to me. It’s almost as if I’m talking to a supremacist which is indicative of the fact that the power structure and system is working and continues effectively do its job at pitting us against each other. I knew I couldn’t respect the man when he criticized a local black county police chief for something so trivial I believe he’s the only who saw it.
I’m thinking to myself “Bro, he’s still a police chief! What/Who are you?” The fact that you engage in this sort of problematic behavior is emblematic of the fact you either hate your job or you hate what you see in the mirror. Proof: That the system works. Most policeman are nothing more than employees of large paramilitary organizations. 🙋🏾‍♂️My $.02

John Singleton told Us about Black cops in Boyz In The Hood.....remember when the Black cop slammed Ice Cube onto the hood of the car. Also in the Movie Cross Roads (Ralph Macchio and Joe Seneca)...the character Willie Brown uses the term "The More Things Change The More They Stay The Same." when describing being mistreated by a Black sheriff.

The police situation is more of a "power over people" mentality. It's just as bad in Africa. I heard an African American who lives in Tanzania say that police mistreatment is worse in Africa than the U.S. and I didn't believe him. Then I started thinking of my experience with black police in South Africa, remembered EndSARS, and thought of a few other events. The majority of people in 34 countries in Africa say that police are more predatory than protective. Very similar in the Caribbean where some black countries have the highest rate of police killings in the world. It's not just majority black countries....it goes on all over the world. This by no means excuses police mistreatment in the U.S...not at all. But to solve the issue requires going deeper than most people think.

I retired with 39 years metro patrol division senior corporal, and passed the Sargent’s exam 17 times, but never promoted. I was always uniform division, never CID, or any other deployed, however I was shot in 1994 & 2003, however I never shot anyone. I was never in the military. I am a US born ethnic Mexican from Texas, I genuinely liked what this young fella touching upon, however Mexicans , are way behind disproportionately, were disenfranchised, we have zero advocacy, because Mexicans are never united with Mexicans. I’m saddened to hear this professor speak about Latinos, because I never speculate on African Americans, ever. In my 62 years on this planet, I can sadly say I was oppressed primarily, by my own ethnic group via sabotage, contemptuous behaviour, perpetual torment, etc. I was always ostracised, because I completed a PhD when I was 30YO, and non of my police colleagues visited my graduation party, even though I invited hundreds of officers. I unequivocally disagree with the professor, because Mexicans were not allowed to vote in Texas until the mid 70’s, allegedly because they could not translate the entire voting infrastructure to Castilian Spanish. Additionally, my family members would have ❤ to help the black population, however they were always threatened to be fired for the farm peasant work we qualified for. Additionally, 1.7 US born ethnic Mexicans were expatriated & sent to Mexico during the Great Depression, US Department of Labor Immigration & Naturalization Service made the case to the executive branch & legislative branch that ALL Mexicans were taking jobs away from the “white man”. This was significant, because my grandfather was a combat veteran in the Great War, along with his brothers & cousins, yet they were jailed & exiled to Mexico, even though they had never visited Mexico. They didn’t have a vehicle, and they lived 280 miles N of the Mexican border. Japanese Americans were placed into inturment camps after December 07,1941, however ethnic Mexicans were exiled & expatriated to Mexico, for merely being accused of taking jobs from the “white man”. I genuinely encourage the professor to do thorough research,on the percentiles amongst ethnic Mexicans & black people. It will be extremely alarming to see how far we are in national politics, arts,management/executive jobs, even Hollywood, we are only cast as maids, gardeners, thugs, and now we accused of poisoning America with fentanyl. I worked & stayed in a skewed job, because I wanted to send my three kids through law school, however I never had anyone watch my six while working my tour of duty, and I learned to always be hyper vigilant. Funny, the professor shared his views, that were cowards, I was called that since 11/11/1994 when I was shot during a traffic stop, and 08/08/2003, because I didn’t return fire after being shot, yet there were civilians & I knew I would have been indicted, thus I was scared to make a mistake. It’s difficult to work as a Leo, always knowing you will never be backed by your brothers-in-blue. Thus I understand why my family would often say that “WE” are merely Mexican peasants, who fought for America, however we are still referred to with contempt, many of us were killed once sent to Mexico viewed as “Vendidos” ie paid for by the “white man”. In conclusion, I was asked to speak at father’s wake, I mentioned that my family & especially my father were very proud to brag that we are known as the most loyal & faithful “farm peasants” “Campesinos”. Clearly, I wasn’t politically correct, for sharing the truth about my family, and I was ostracized by my own immediate family. My mother was a PhD half Mexican national half Comanche, grandmother was full Comanche, yet we were all living in a house with a dirt floor, out-house, no running water, on the land of the farmer/rancher. I was known as the very best vegetable/fruit picker, yet I was also known as the very best shoe shiner, as I built my own shoe-shine box in the 60’s. I never use the PhD title, however I always use the farm peasant & shoe shiner title today, because it allowed me work ethic to persevere via a very brutal work environment.
